Bollywood is known for its ancient ways of casting much older actors and actresses in younger roles. However, there have been occasions when an actor/actress played a character so convincingly, they made the audience forget their real age with their acting ability.
Here is a list of 5 actors and actresses who played characters nowhere their age and really nailed it.
1)Anupam Kher in Saaransh (1984)
Known for his versatile acting, actor Anupam Kher made his screen debut with Saaransh at the age of 29, in the role of a retired stubborn old man. The movie was about an elderly couple coming to terms with the loss of their only son. As a grieving old man, Anupam Kher was so convincing, it was hard to believe the character was portrayed by a man in his late 20s. Anupam Kher’s performance in the movie won him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
2)Pankaj Kapoor in Kamla Ki Maut (1989)
Released in the year 1989, Kamla Ki Maut is considered one of the most progressive films of Indian cinema. It deals with issues of love and relationships in modern India and starred a 35 year old Pankaj Kapoor as a father of two adult daughters. As a talented actor, Kapoor portrayed the character really well and with raw acting and emotions, managed to breathe life into the role of a father worried about his two daughters.
3)Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Sarbjit (2016)
The rightful diva of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, at the age of 43, portrayed a 60 year old woman fighting for the release of her brother in Sarbjit. Aishwarya shone as Dalbir Kaur and with a deglamorized look, she captivated audiences with her superb acting. She was praised by critics for giving one of the strongest performances of her career in Sarbjit.
4)Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh (2016)
Method actor Manoj Bajpayee portrayed the role of professor Ramchandra Siras, a character 15 years older than Bajpayee’s real age. Based on a true story, Bajpayee’s portrayal of a troubled and fragile professor trying to deal with pain and humiliation with dignity, while fighting for equality, is quite memorable.
5)Shweta Tripathi in Haraamkhor (2017)
This bubbly and beautiful actress, who played the role of a young student in Haraamkhor, was 32 when the film was shot. Directed by Shlok Sharma, Haraamkhor starred Shweta Tripathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles. Shweta portrayed the role of a confused, ignored young teenager, who keeps making wrong choices. Her performance was really convincing because of how beautifully she was able to showcase the anguish of a young girl.
It takes a really talented actor to pull off a character nowhere near his/her age. These actors and actresses, through their characters, really proved the extent of their dedication to their craft.

1) Padosan (1968)

Bollywood Actors Who Married Older Women
Age is just a number, they say and these Bollywood couples prove just that. While the trend earlier was younger heroines falling in love with older actors, the tides have now changed. Today, men are falling for (and getting married to) women much older than them! Check out these couples who, despite their age difference, have had quite a successful marriage:
1. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan
Rumoured to have started dating on the sets of their superhit film Guru, Abhi and Ash got married in the year 2007! Despite their age difference and the fact Aishwarya has a “manglik yog,” nothing could stop the two love birds from making their love official. While they have an age difference of only two years (Aish is 45 and Abhi is 43 years old,) they still raised quite a few eyebrows. Twelve years later, the two are still as happy as they were in the beginning and now have a beautiful daughter called Aaradhya!
2. Karan Singh Grover and Bipasha Basu
Karan Singh Grover and Bipasha Basu hit the tabloid headlines for being bold and fierce about how much they loved each other from day one! Although Bipasha Basu is four years older than Karan Singh Grover, the two refused to back down and tied the knot in the year 2016. Three years later, the couple is just as adorable as they were when they started dating!
3. Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan
Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan met each other while shooting for the film Dhoondte Reh Jaoge in the year 2009. Perhaps one of the most progressive couples in the industry, the two even moved in together in the year 2013. After staying together for two years, the two tied the knot in 2015. Always open and honest about their relationship, they never shied away from admitting the fact that Kunal is five years younger than Soha!
4. Shirish Kunder and Farah Khan
Did you know that filmmaker turned director Shirish Kunder is eight years younger than his wife, Farah Khan? They met while Shirish was editing Farah Khan’s directorial debut, Main Hoon Na. Even though everyone around them was extremely sceptical about the eight year age gap, nothing stopped the two from tying the knot in 2004. Today, they are blessed with a son and 2 daughters. So deep is their love that Farah Khan once said if she was ever reborn, she would marry Shirish all over again!
When you see love stories like these blossom despite age being a barrier, your heart just melts. If you think we missed out on other couples like these, comment and let us know!
Bollywood Celebrities Who Will Never Work Together Again
Bollywood celebrities live quite the dramatic life. While all the hookups and breakups make for an entertaining read in real life, the effect these negative relationships have is a bittersweet one in the reel world as well. While some celebrities make for a great pair on screen when they were dating, the fact they said they will never work together after a fall out is quite sad. Here is a list of celebrity pairings we will never see together on the silver screen again!
1. Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan
That Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan made quite a sizzling pair was a known fact. Remember Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam? The two were so great together, they made quite a lasting impression. However, their breakup was not quite as beautiful as their relationship and immediately after they stopped dating, the two vowed to never work together. Oh well. At least we have a handful of their movies.
2. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan
Remember how great Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were in Karan Arjun? It seemed like the two were going places, with their acting skills and their on screen chemistry. However, things turned dicey when at Katrina Kaif’s birthday, a brawl broke out between the two. It was so bad, Aamir Khan stepped in and separated the two before things became worse! Thankfully, things seem to be calming down for the two after they celebrated Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday in 2015. Fingers crossed. 2019 may be the year for them!
3. John Abraham and Bipasha Basu
John Abraham and Bipasha Basu were perhaps the hottest couple in Bollywood when they were dating. However, when their nine year long relationship ended rather abruptly, no one knew what went wrong. In fact, things are now so sour, when Bipasha was asked if she will ever work with John again, she said, “John Abraham? I don’t know him.” For John, on the other hand, he doesn’t have any plans of working with his ex flame again. Oh well. Room for more hot people on the screen now!
4. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha
Ranbir Kapoor perhaps has one of the most twisted reasons for never working with Sonakshi Sinha. According to the rumour mill, the Wake Up Sid actor said he doesn’t want to be paired with the Lootera actress because she looks too old and they will make a bad pair on screen. Ouch. Talk about being an ageist.
5. Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan
According to the Bollywood tabloids, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan will never work together because both of them are too popular to share screen space. Their reasons extend far beyond this as both of them don’t like each other personally as well. Did you know Aamir Khan named one of his dog’s after Shah Rukh Khan? You know on whose bad side not to be , now.
Which of these pairs would you want to see on screen again? Comment and let us know!
Bollywood Celebrities Who Battled Serious Diseases And Came Out Stronger
There are a few Bollywood celebrities, who, apart from playing characters affected by serious diseases on the screen, have gone through a lot when it comes to dealing with such diseases in real life. The last few years, especially, saw these celebrities fight these diseases time and time again, only to come out stronger and better on the other side! From Irrfan Khan to Rakesh Roshan, here’s taking a look at all the celebrities who braved diseases with grace and ease:
1. Rakesh Roshan
The Roshan family seems to be no stranger to the harsh hands of serious diseases. From Hrithik Roshan having to undergo a brain surgery for a blood clot, to Sunaina Roshan, Hrithik Roshan’s sister, battling cancer, almost all the family members have had one serious disease. Recently, Rakesh Roshan was also diagnosed with early stage squamous cell carcinoma, a type of throat cancer. With one surgery already done, Rakesh Roshan is already on the path to a speedy recovery. Here’s wishing the actor a speedy recovery and long life!
2. Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khan’s announcement of being infected with neuroendocrine cancer was perhaps one of the most shocking things to happen. However, showing true strength and commitment to his trade, the actor kept shooting even after undergoing treatment in New York! Talk about being a fighter!
3. Manisha Koirala
Known for giving the world some truly beautiful films like Dil Se and Bombay, Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 42. After multiple surgeries and rigorous treatments, the actress was finally declared cancer free in the year 2015! Like a real life hero, the actress came out fit, fighting through all the struggles!
4. Lisa Ray
Lisa Ray was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (a form of blood cancer) in the year 2009 and the moment she was diagnosed, she kept herself away from media of all kinds. A year later however, the actress made a public statement saying she received a complete transplant and was treated for a while. Unfortunately, the disease isn’t completely curable, only temporarily treatable. Despite being faced with such a serious disease, Lisa Ray still had an extremely positive outlook on life and never backed down.
5. Anurag Basu
Known for directing really great movies like Life In A Metro and Barfi, Anurag Basu was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in 2004. Although the doctors gave him only two months to live, the actor fought back cancer and is now completely cured!
To see our favourite stars fight back despite facing some of the most daunting moments in their lives is a truly commendable feat. Here’s wishing these a long and happy life.
Bollywood Movies All About Food
Food, colour, camera and Bollywood always go hand in hand. There’s something truly magical about watching a movie which brings to life all your favourite cuisines, coupled with a beautiful love story. If you’re a foodie and love Bollywood movies, what could be better than this combination, right? We agree! Here’s taking a look at movies which don’t just make your mouth water, but also tug at your heartstrings:
1. Stanley Ka Dabba
A mean principal who looks at stealing food from students and a child who wants to share his food with his friends: Stanley Ka Dabba tells a two tiered story. With food playing the unifying factor, the movie tells the story of how a little boy confronts not just his bully, but also how he comes to terms with his past. A beautiful movie through and through, Stanley Ka Dabba is heartwarming in every way! The bottom line? No matter what happens, good food always warms your soul.
2. Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana
A lot can happen over a hot pot of curry and if you watch Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, you realise just how true this fact is. A family gets into a major crisis and the only thing which can save the family from ruins is if they find the secret ingredient which makes the chicken curry taste so amazing! A treat to not just the eyes but the stomach as well, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana has a simple message: a good recipe takes time to perfect and once that happens, everything falls in place.
3. Cheeni Kum
Have you ever fallen in love with someone because the sugar was too less in your food? Cheeni Kum shows how despite having differences in the way certain dishes are cooked, you can still find an acceptable middle ground. To recreate Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao in itself is an extremely hard task. To get it right to perfection is even harder. Amitabh Bachchan, playing the role of the chef, realises he’s not always right, when Tabu’s character tells him the right recipe of Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao does have sugar! While at the surface of things, Cheeni Kum may seem like a run of the mill love story, if you look at the subtle nuances, there is a lot more. Attention to detail, the love for one’s country and food which is always cooked in the best possible way, this movie is all things beautiful!
4. English Vinglish
There are so many times when you watch a movie and are surprised by how there are still certain stigmas and principles people follow despite being supremely educated. English Vinglish shows us just that. While the central character (played by Sridevi,) is a mother whose family doesn’t consider her opinions because she doesn’t know English, the movie shows how despite all the pitfalls, the mother still runs her own business! Discovering the fact that she is an entrepreneur (famous for her laddus,) the mother realises knowing English isn’t the most important thing in the world. With food playing the central theme of this particular film, English Vinglish is more than just a mother accepting she can change the ways of her life, but also how food can make even the worst situations right.
5. Ramji Londonwaley
When you see a Tamilian Brahmin working as a chef in London (while living there illegally,) you think you are in for a different story altogether. They say, the way to a man’s heart is through food, but in Ramji Londonwaley, the central character (played by R. Madhavan,) does the exact opposite! He uses food to impress not only the love of his life, but also the people of London, by coming up with the recipe for a sugar free halwa! Not only does this help him win the hearts of the people in London, this also helps the lead win over his lady love. Talk about love through food done right!
6. The Lunchbox
When you think Mumbai, you think lunch boxes, crowded trains and people shuffling to and fro. When you think The Lunchbox, these very same thoughts are brought to life! A misdelivered lunchbox brings to life the story of two unhappy people and a letter which forms a unique love story. Witty repartee, hidden secrets and a strong craving for good food make this story all the more beautiful. With an open ending and a beautiful tale, The Lunchbox is a story of acceptance and finding love.
7. Dawat E Ishq
Love doesn’t just develop with the hope of a happy tummy, but by having the love for something truly good. A girl from Hyderabad, who’s sick of men asking for dowry, tries duping a chef from Lucknow. However, with all the tangdi kebabs and the biryanis, true love blossoms. Like every movie with food as the central theme, Dawat E Ishq also talks about how in every situation, food can fix everything!
When food brings you so much joy, why not share the joy of food while watching movies about food? If you think we missed out on any other movies with food playing a pivotal role in the story, comment and let us know!
