Amitabh Bachchan, the superstar, the King of Bollywood, the ultimate Badshah of Bollywood, finishes 50 years in the industry today! While the baritone voice is a familiar presence in the Country now, the Angry Young Man of Bollywood had an inspiring journey. Here is taking a look at Amitabh Bachchan’s journey in the world of Bollywood in the last 5 decades!
Zanjeer set the world of Bollywood onto a new path. While Amitabh Bachchan was already coming into his own before this film, Zanjeer gave the actor a new direction. When Amitabh Bachchan was introduced to the world of Bollywood, people had a new face to look at and admire. With the movie being all things amazing and Amitabh Bachchan being hailed as the next big thing, everyone was looking forward to something exciting. As a first movie, Zanjeer was the best thing which could happen to the Angry Young Man.
From the moment Zanjeer became the super hit film that it was destined to be, Amitabh Bachchan’s success kept growing. With Silsila, his presence in the world of Bollywood was further cemented through his brilliant acting skills. His scintillating chemistry with Rekha quite literally set the rumour mill on fire, giving people a fresh new pair to look forward to everyday! A movie which wasn’t just about love, Silsila redefined the way people looked at and dealt with different circumstances. With the characters being so carefully handled, the movie just made everyone stand up and take notice of not just Amitabh Bachchan, but of Rekha as well!
A movie which needs no introduction, Sholay was an Amitabh Bachchan classic film. A classic, Sholay was one of the highest grossing films released at the time and ranked first in the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll of “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time. A story about two criminals (Jeet and Veeru, played by Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan,) who try to capture a criminal, Gabbar Singh, this movie more than earned its place in the hall of fame. While the film initially received negative reactions when it released, the reviews quickly picked up and people started falling in love with the characters and the attention to detail the film had. Sholay was a film like never before and was perhaps one of the best performances Amitabh gave so far!
The first and original Don, Amitabh Bachchan was a class act like no other actor. Playing a double role for the first time in his career, senior Bachchan ruled the roost with his acting skills in this movie! The third highest grossing movie when it released, this movie set the charts on fire because of how well Amitabh pulled his weight in both the roles in this movie. Classified as a golden jubilee hit by Box Office India, Don was an iconic movie in every sense of the word. The line, “Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai,” is still popular even today!
This film had a lot of expectations riding on Amitabh Bachchan. The title for this movie was taken from a poem written by Harshvardhan Rai Bachchan (Amitabh’s father) and the film also had an extremely talented cast (Mithun Chakraborty, Madhavi, Neelam Kothari, Rohini Hattangadi and Danny Denzongpa.) The poem written by Amitabh’s father was recited at the beginning of the film and just like Amitabh’s character, the poem gives shape to the central crux of this film as well. With Big B playing the character so well, Agneepath went on to become a major cult movie in years to come!
Telling the story of Piku Banerjee (played by Deepika Padukone) and her father (Amitabh Bachchan,) Piku saw Amitabh Bachchan acing the character. From praising the characterisation, to loving the plot, critics and fans alike loved the movie so much, it became an instant hit the moment it released! While both Deepika Padukone and Irfan Khan added a certain impact to the movie, it was Amitabh Bachchan’s perfect portrayal of a cranky old man which added the much needed gravitas to Piku. Definitely one of Amitabh’s best performances in the recent past!
While Amitabh Bachchan was known for playing certain roles during the earlier part of his career, he grew to play different types of characters in the future years. From changing the way people saw him in cinema, to creating a positive image for himself, Amitabh Bachchan has quite literally carved a throne for himself in the world of Bollywood. Here’s looking forward to more amazing films from the Badshah of Bollywood in the coming 50 years!
Ranveer Singh Birthday – Looking At Some Of The Best Performances By The Actor
B-town’s most energetic star Ranveer Singh celebrates his 34th birthday today. Ever since he made his debut in 2010, Singh has been the center of attention with his jaw dropping acting skills, flamboyance, energy and an out of the box fashion statement. From being the cute and innocent wedding planner in his debut film, to essaying the role of a powerful tyrant, this man is a true representation of versatility.
On the occasion of his birthday, let us take a look at some of his most impressive performances on the silver screen.
1) Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)
In his debut film Band Baaja Baaraat, Ranveer Singh was seen playing the quintessential Delhi boy Bittoo Sharma, who wants to start his own business. Ranveer Singh’s acting style and accent in this film were so convincing, people thought he was actually from Delhi. His effortless dance moves and quirky dialogues made Band Baaja Baaraat one of the most successful films of that year. With his power packed performance in his debut film, he sent a strong message to the world—he is here to stay.
2) Lootera (2013)
Lootera is one gem which easily gets lost in Singh’s flashy filmography. Marking a contrast from his energetic personality, Lootera saw Ranveer Singh take up the role of Varun Shrivastav, an archeologist who falls in love with a local landlord’s daughter. This film was a testament to his depth and vast potential as an actor. Though Lootera underperformed at the box office, Ranveer’s performance got widespread applause from the critics and the audience.
3) Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013)
We must say, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a true star maker. Though his performances in his previous films were appreciated, it was Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela which gave Ranveer Singh the name and fame he deserves. This film saw Ranveer essaying the role of a quirky, feisty person and an intense lover. The character, which was loud and dramatic, played to the actor’s strengths and Ranveer portrayed it remarkably well. His mesmerizing dance moves and chemistry with Deepika Padukone became the talk of the town. Ram-Leela was the first Rs. 100 crore film of Ranveer Singh’s career.
4) Padmaavat (2018)
What can we even say about this one? The Bhansali directorial Padmaavat saw Ranveer taking up the role of a self centered, gruesome ruler, Alauddin Khilji, who gets obsessed with Rani Padmavati’s beauty. From his physique and body language to accent, Singh transformed everything about himself to get into the skin of this character. Ranveer absorbed every detail of this character and played it with utmost perfection on screen. Though it was a negative role, Ranveer Singh’s acting brilliance was such, Khilji was the most loved character of 2018.
5) Gully Boy (2019)
This year, we saw the energised bunny in a completely different avatar. In the Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully Boy, Ranveer Singh took up the subdued role of Murad, an underdog with high ambitions. Ranveer Singh changed his physique and body language yet again to suit the troubled ‘gully’ rapper. With this film, he proved to the world not just his versatile acting skills, but also his rapping abilities. Though Gully Boy had a niche subject, riding on Ranveer’s acting skills, it crossed the prestigious Rs. 100 crore mark.
With his last three films collecting Rs. 600 crores net at the Indian box office and his films such as ’83 yet to come, we must say, Ranveer Singh is quickly escalating towards superstardom.
We wish this handsome hunk, Ranveer Singh, a very happy birthday and many more successful years ahead.
Arjun Kapoor Birthday – Looking At The Actor’s Bollywood Journey
B-town’s handsome hunk Arjun Kapoor turns a year older today. Though his acting capabilities are not really appreciated by the mainstream audiences, we must say, he was instrumental in delivering some memorable characters. I mean, who can forget Krish from 2 States? On the occasion of his 34th birthday, let us look at Arjun Kapoor’s journey in Bollywood.
1) Starting off as a director
Arjun Kapoor, the son of Boney Kapoor and late Mona Shourie Kapoor, was born to an influential film family and was passionate about filmmaking since childhood. He worked as an assistant director for Nikhil Advani’s Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) and Salaam-e-Ishq (2007.) He was even an associate producer for No Entry (2005) and Wanted (2009) which were bankrolled by his father’s production house. Back then, Kapoor was not keen on taking up acting as a profession. He was more inclined towards directing.
2) An advice that changed his life
It was Salman Khan who advised Arjun Kapoor to consider acting. Salman Khan believed Arjun Kapoor was meant for acting. This piece of advice from Salman Khan changed Arjun Kapoor’s life. Kapoor made his Bollywood debut as an actor with Ishaqzaade (2012,) alongside Parineeti Chopra. With this film, he got a nod from the audience as the movie made Rs. 87 crores at the box office.
3) Rise to fame
After the success of his debut film, Arjun Kapoor starred in Aurangzeb (2013,) which did not go well with the audience. His 2014 release, Gunday, also did not receive good reviews, but managed to collect Rs. 120 crores at the box office. The failure of these films, however, did not lower his spirits. In the later years of his career, Arjun Kapoor delivered some really good performances in films like 2 States (2014) and Ki & Ka (2016,) in which his power packed acting was appreciated by the critics as well as the audience. His 2019 release, India’s Most Wanted, received mixed reviews.
4) Love life
Ever since his foray into Bollywood, Arjun Kapoor has been making news for his relationships with female contemporaries. Arjun Kapoor reportedly dated Salman’s sister Arpita Khan for a period of over two years. He was also rumored to be dating Sonakshi Sinha for a brief period. Now, he is dating Malaika Arora and seems pretty happy with her. Time and again rumors of his wedding with Malaika keep circulating, only for the duo to deny them.
Apart from this, Arjun Kapoor has some really trustworthy friends in Bollywood. Arjun Kapoor is close friends with 2 States co star Alia Bhatt and Gunday co star Ranveer Singh. Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor have been friends through thick and thin.
On the work front, Arjun Kapoor will be seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat, which is slated to release in December this year.
We wish this handsome hunk, Arjun Kapoor, a very happy birthday and many more successful years ahead.
#27GoldenYearsofSRK – Best Performances Of SRK Till Date
Twenty seven years ago today, an ordinary yet ambitious boy from Delhi made his silver screen debut with Deewana (1992.) Back then, little did the world know this ordinary boy would become the King of Bollywood and rule it for decades. Shah Rukh Khan or SRK, as he is popularly known, has had an incredible journey in Bollywood. From romantic and action to gangster, he experimented with various genres and gave us some extremely memorable characters. Not just acting, King Khan has also won hearts by hosting award shows and giving TEDx talks and motivational speeches.
In these incredible 27 years, SRK featured in more than 80 films and received several accolades. What better than this occasion to go down the memory lane and revisit some of his best performances till date.
1) Baazigar (1993)
In the 1993 film Baazigar, Shah Rukh Khan was seen as the son who sets out to take revenge for the death of his father and would stop at nothing.
SRK dared to play an anti hero in a generation where heroes were worshipped. His acting was so intense and convincing, even though he played an anti hero who commits murders and deceives people, you still end up rooting for him.
2) Darr (1993)
Yet again, Shah Rukh Khan did not hesitate to take up a negative character.
With Darr, he proved to the world he is a supreme actor who is here to stay. SRK was seen as an obsessive lover and a creepy stalker who can kill to get the love of his life. Khan portrayed this character with such perfection, it gives you goosebumps. The little nuances in his acting and the dark vibe he brings to the screen with this character are commendable. His intense looks are enough to convince you he is an obsessive lover indeed!
Who can forget the dialogue “k..k…k… Kiran?”
3) Devdas (2002)
In this Bhansali period drama, Devdas, you can see Shah Rukh Khan essaying the role of an intense lover. No one could have done justice to this character like SRK did. His chemistry with Aishwarya, his alcohol addiction and troubles with family are played so well, it almost feels real. The depth in his acting gives you yet another reason to call him the “King of Bollywood.”
4) Swades (2004)
Swades is arguably one of SRK’s best performances till date. He took up a unique film like Swades at a time when he was gaining popularity as the King of Romance. With his role in Swades, he proved to the world he can do more than just romance.
The film traces the journey of a NASA scientist, Mohan, who comes to India and realizes his duty towards his Country.
SRK’s intense performance pulls you into the film and you are bound to feel the emotions he feels on the screen. His acting is so good, you will not find any traces of the King of Romance on the screen, all you can see is Mohan.
5) My Name Is Khan (2010)
Tracing the effects of the 9/11 attacks, this Karan Johar directorial witnessed Shah Rukh Khan deliver yet another gem of a performance. SRK took up the role of Rizwaan Khan, a man with autism and portrayed it effortlessly on screen. Rizwaan’s innocent personality, his love for his people and the devastation he faces in his life are all delivered to perfection. Once again, he set aside his superstar image and garnered the love of the audience as well as the critics.
These are a few of Shah Rukh Khan’s performances which we think were exceptional. Apart from these films, SRK was also brilliant in Don (2006,) Chak De! India (2007,) Fan (2016,) Dear Zindagi (2016) and the list goes on and on.
We wish this Superstar many more successful years ahead.

— Bhushan Kumar (@itsBhushanKumar) June 20, 2019
The trailer opens with a voice over of the iconic radio jockey, Ameen Sayani, introducing the movie. Juxtaposed with scenes from Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Ameen’s voice over introduces Arjun Patiala as the 145th cop film in Bollywood!
Honest to the very minute, the trailer introduces Diljit Dosanjh’s character (Arjun Patiala) as a cute cop, Kriti Sanon (Ritu Randhawa) as the supremely dramatic heroine and Varun Sharma (Onida Singh) as the hero’s cop friend. Just like Arjun, Onida also has a hilarious story to his name and through the trailer, one gets glimpses of how his childhood was.
With Ritu being a crime reporter and Arjun and Onida playing the roles of small time cops, the trailer is action packed and filled with at least half a dozen bad guys. Talking about the film, Kriti Sanon said , “I feel it’s a completely different kind of a comedy. It’s a slightly spoofy kind of a comedy. I don’t think that kind of a take on comedy has been done before.”
Directed by Rohit Jugraj, and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan under their T-Series and Maddock banners, this movie is touted to be a goofy cop comedy. Arjun Patiala is scheduled to hit the screens on the 26th of July, so stay tuned!
