Valentine’s Day, the day it is but expected to show off the person you love with not just gestures but romantic gestures, is finally here! What can be better than snuggling in your blankets, with a big bowl of popcorn and the person you love by your side? Watching cheesy and romantic Bollywood movies! Here’s our list of movies you should watch to make the most of today with the person you love!
1. Jab We Met
An out and out feel good, romantic movie, Jab We Met just has to be at the top of this list! One of its kind and a treat for sore eyes, this movie is all about finding the one love after kissing a handful of frogs along the way. While Geet (played by Kareena Kapoor) does all she can to find the love of her life, Shahid Kapoor runs from the life he didn’t want to have. Through the film, both Geet (played by Kareena Kapoor) and Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) come to terms with who they are as individuals and realise that at the end of the day, they make each other happier than ever. What better way to spend the day than to watch this movie knowing you have found the one through the frogs?
2. Aashiqui 2
The story of Aashiqui 2 is all about acceptance of love. No matter what the other person is going through, if you love them enough, there is always a way to make things work. Based on the life of an alcoholic singer (Aditya Roy Kapur,) who finds solace and love in Shraddha Kapoor’s character, this movie showed us that to love, is to truly believe in your better half, no matter what the world says. When a movie comes with such a strong and hard hitting message, it is only fitting to watch this movie on Valentine’s Day!
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
How many times have you watched this movie and thought of finding a man like Rahul (played by Shah Rukh Khan)? Every single time, right? Perhaps one of the most romantic movies of all times, this film tells you how even through all the obstacles, you can still find happiness with the love of your life. Going against your father for the love of your life sounds like a hard thing to do, but when push comes to shove, this movie makes you realise all is not lost. Quite literally changing the way love was seen in movies, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge should definitely be a part of the list of movies to watch with your partner today!
4. Veer Zara
While a movie which had more than its fair share of downs than ups, Veer Zara was one of the most anticipated films before its release in 2004. This film showed how two people in love, Veer (played by Shah Rukh Khan) and Zaara (played by Preity Zinta,) fought against every barrier possible and still managed to find their happy place. Veer Zaara depicted how Veer’s and Zaara’s love only grew through the years, even if they weren’t together at the time. What better movie to watch today than Veer Zara?
5. Jodhaa Akbar
A fictional story about how Akbar married and fell in love with a Rajput princess, Jodhaa Akbar was a love story set during the 16th century. This particular film had slightly lofty aspirations, showing how love blossomed not just between people of different religions, but between different kingdoms as well! Acceptance, going through every length possible because of the person you love and showing people that no matter what, the two of you are enough, is the true essence of Jodha Akbar.. A perfect love story all the way through, you would definitely be missing out if you don’t watch this gem of a film today!
6. Bajirao Masgtani
This Sanjay Leela Bhansali was all about finding love through all the adversities and rejections. Despite being a period film, this movie makes even one with a black heart melt and fall in love with the idea of love. Both Bajirao (played by Ranveer Singh) and Mastani (Deepika Padukone) show that even though there was a whole group of people fighting tooth and nail to keep them apart, their love was strong enough to change perceptions. Showing us love knows no boundaries, Bajirao Mastani is the film you need to watch if you are going through a bad phase with your partner.
7. Maine Pyaar Kiya
Kya tumne pyaar kiya? Nahin? Then watch Maine Pyaar Kiya to know what love and life with love feel like! With friendship as the underlying factor in this film, Maine Pyaar Kiya showed, even if you found the one you love, it is okay if they don’t love you the same way! Watch to reinforce your belief in true love and to let your partner know that no matter what, you will always be true to them!
Love, in all its different forms, is a beautiful feeling. When you experience this feeling with the person you want by your side, the feeling gets all the more enhanced. What is your favourite movie to watch with your partner today? Comment and let us know!
Kalank First Song Ghar More Pardesiya Out Now
After keeping us all waiting with bated breath for something other than just a teaser, the makers of Kalank have finally released a brand new song! Titled Ghar More Pardesiya, this new song doesn’t have a conventional pair as the lead but is instead, centered around Alia Bhatt’s and Madhuri Dixit’s characters.
Written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, the voice has been given by Shreya Ghoshal and Vaishali Mhade. The song opens to Alia Bhatt’s and Varun Dhawan’s characters entering a Ramleela performance. While on the one side of the stage, Laxman draws the epic Lakshman Rekha in front of Sita, Madhuri Dixit’s character is seen swinging on the other side. Listen to the song here.

— Alia Bhatt (@aliaa08) March 18, 2019
What makes this song stand out is the way the attention to detail and the old school charm the song has. From the way the song was picturised, to the way Madhuri and Alia are dressed, the picturisation of this song has been perfectly done.
Days before the song was released, Alia teased everyone with tiny bits and pieces about how the shoot for the song went, “A song that gave me sleepless nights, days & months is coming very very soon.. I think you can safely say that I have never been SO nervous for anything in my life.. *screams frantically and hides under bed* You may have to send a search party to find me. Meanwhile watch this space for more.”
Directed by Abhishek Varman (known for other brilliant movies like 2 States,) this movie is the most awaited film of this year. Also starring Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur in key roles, Kalank is all set to hit the screens on the 17th of April this year!
Bollywood Movies Which Inspired Hollywood Films
How many times have you heard of a Bollywood film inspired by either a Tollywood or a Hollywood film? More number of times than you can count, right? We agree. However, there are some movies which did so well in Bollywood, they inspired some really great Hollywood movies. Here is looking at Bollywood films which not only made a mark on the Indian audience, but on the rest of the world as well!
1. A Wednesday (A Common Man)
Perhaps one of the best movies Neeraj Pandey has made in his career, A Wednesday received so much praise, it was critically acclaimed internationally as well! So loved was it by the world of Hollywood, they thought just one film like this wasn’t enough. Sri Lankan film maker, Chandan Rutnam loved it so much, he officially remade it as A Common Man in the year 2013. With Ben Kingsley playing the role of Naseeruddin Shah, Rutnam recreated the movie with only slight tweaks in the script. A Common Man did so well, it bagged not one, but several titles, such as the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor awards at the Madrid International Film Festival.
2. Jab We Met (Leap Year)
When Jab We Met released in the year 2007, it quite literally redefined love and all the expectations people have from relationships. For years after, this movie became a gospel of sorts for when it came to love stories. This is why, when Leap Year was announced, it came as no surprise to people all over the world. Leap Year had Amy Adams and Matthew Goode in pivotal roles! While Jab We Met had everything you could want from a romantic, feel good Bollywood movie, Leap Year made you want to think about the choices you make. With an equally great premise, both the movies stay embedded in your memories because of their great storytelling.
3. Vicky Donor (Delivery Man)
When Vicky Donor released in India, it made quite a splash at the box office and with the critics because of its unique concept. While the Bollywood world and its audience really appreciated this concept, Hollywood loved it to no end as well. Taking inspiration from the story of Vicky Donor, Hollywood produced a brand new movie with the same concept, called Delivery Man! The only major difference between the two films was, while Vicky in Vicky Donor helps give birth to more than 500 children, the lead in Delivery Man helps give birth to around 100 kids!
4. Darr (Fear)
Remember the Yash Chopra directorial, Darr? The psychological thriller starred Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunil Dutt in the lead roles. It did so well, it received appreciation from fans and critics alike. Still remembered as one of the most iconic characters played by Shah Rukh Khan, Darr was the inspiration for the Hollywood thriller, Fear. From the characters, to the story line and to the direction style, Fear was quite literally copied from Darr. When Fear released, the movie did so amazingly well, it was one of the biggest hits of 1996.
5. Sangam (Pearl Harbour)
Directed by Raj Kapoor and starring Vyjayanthimala, Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar in the lead roles, Sangam was a sensational success when it hit the screens. A love triangle set during a war, this movie was not just famous for being an iconic one, but for Raj Kapoor’s character as well. Kapoor’s character in Sangam is deemed as the best one ever played by him! So well done was this film, it became loved across the borders as well. It inspired the 2001 super hit Hollywood film, Pearl Harbour. With the script and everything else being the same, the only thing which was perhaps drastically different was the fact, Pearl Harbour was set against the backdrop of the Pearl Harbour attack!
When you see your favourite Bollywood films acting as inspiration for Hollywood movies, you know things are right in the world! If you think we missed out on any other Hollywood movies inspired by Bollywood movies, comment and let us know!
Photograph Review And First Day Box Office Expectations
Director: Ritesh Batra
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sanya Malhotra
Rafiq (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a street photographer who walks the streets of Mumbai trying to create special memories through polaroids. Into his frame walks Miloni (a CA, played by Sanya Malhotra.) However, while Rafi seems to think Miloni should definitely get a picture clicked, the latter is reluctant. Miloni finally succumbs to Rafi’s charms and persuasion skills and gets a picture clicked. The moment Rafi takes the picture, a conversation strikes up between Miloni and Rafi. The rest of the movie maps out to a family meeting on pretense and a slow romance in the works! With Miloni pretending to be Rafi’s fiancé Noor, the movie shows how the leads start getting closer even though they are playing a facade.
Despite being part of a world which is constantly obsessed with social media and staying connected, Ritesh Batra has created a setting similar to old school romance. As always, Ritesh Batra has breathed magic into every scene. Something as simple as a photograph (not a selfie, mind you,) is so powerful, it draws two strangers together. Who would have thought?
Photograph works for one basic reason. It pulls at the nostalgia strings of your heart! Miloni and Rafi realise they really do have a lot of things in common and these similar tastes and similar dislikes form the basis of a beautiful friendship between them, with hints of something more in the offing.
Like always, Nawazuddin’s acting skills are par excellence. With every line delivered perfectly and a perfect characterization of Rafiq, Nawazuddin delivers his dialogues with skills only a seasoned actor has. On her part, Sanya Malhotra also plays the role of Miloni really well. While in the beginning, she plays a reserved and slightly aloof character, Sanya seems to grow in a manner which shows her acceptance of the character she’s playing.
With some lines of resemblance drawn from Basu Chatterjee’s Chhoti Si Baat, Ritesh Batra has made quite a masterpiece with Photograph. All in all, with the cinematography and music adding a really fine feeling to the entire movie, this Ritesh Batra directorial is a delight. Watch it for the subtle nuances and the simplicity of the entire tale!
Photograph – Reasons To Watch
Photograph, a Ritesh Batra directorial starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra, is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. Before it does, here is taking a look at why you should absolutely watch this beautiful love story!
1. The story
What happens when people from different backgrounds are drawn together in weird circumstances? When you watch the trailer of Photograph, you are given a brief insight into what to expect from the film. Rafi (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui,) is a photographer who takes pictures outside the Gateway of India, where he meets Miloni (played by Sanya Malhotra.) A picture draws the two of them into a conversation and from there on, you are drawn into the beautiful dynamic shared by the two. Clearly, there is more to the movie than what is shown in the trailer. If not for another reason, finding out what the entire story is should be reason enough to watch the movie tomorrow!
2. The cast
To say that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a brilliant actor would be an understatement. Despite being a new entrant, he quickly rose to prove he was not to be taken lightly. Every movie or show of which he has been a part, from Gangs of Wasseypur, to Sacred Games and to Manto, he gives the audience a certain kind of thrill. When you watch someone as truly talented as him perform, you know you are in for a treat. Sanya Malhotra, in her own light, is quite a gem. Despite being a newbie to the world of acting and Bollywood, she is still making her own mark. With a host of really successful movies to her name, Dangal and Badhaai Ho, Sanya Malhotra has definitely proved she is an actress for whom one should keep an eye out! Talk about a double bonanza!
3. Ritesh Batra
Known for making amazing movies like The Lunchbox, starring Nimrat Kaur and Irrfan Khan, Ritesh Batra has quickly made it to the list of the most critically acclaimed directors in India. With an eye for detail and a talent for bringing out the best in everyone, Ritesh Batra has made sure he works his charm even with Photograph. In The Lunchbox, Batra showed every minute aspect of the film without overdoing the drama and being extremely subtle about the situation. This is why, even with Photograph, one can expect a truly well done film.
With every aspect being thought of and laid out in a very endearing manner, Photograph promises to be an extremely intense watch. Let us know what your views about the film are in the comments below!

After a long, long while, the makers of Kalank just dropped the teaser and by the looks of things, it is every bit worth the long wait. Painting a series of stories involving drama, love and multiple emotions, the teaser introduces us to the different characters of this film. A little longer than two minutes, the teaser is captivating in every sense of the word.
First comes Madhuri Dixit as Begum Bahaar, then Sonakshi Sinha as Satya and finally, Alia Bhatt as Roop. While the female characters of Kalank seem to be written well, the male characters have just as special a story to tell. From Varun Dhawan as Zafar, a daredevil bullfighter, to Aditya Roy Kapur as Dev Chaudhary and to Sanjay Dutt as Balraj Chaudhary, Varman has truly thought out the cast! Watch the teaser here and now!

— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) March 12, 2019
While the teaser doesn’t give a big clue about whose love story it is going to adress, the hints are certainly dropped with amazing subtlety. With only two dialogues forming the crux of this teaser, the visuals give an insight into what to expect from the film. “Kuchh rishte karzon ke tarah hote hain. Jinhe nibhana nahi, chukana padhta hai,” says Varun Dhawan at the beginning, while Alia Bhatt says the last dialogue, “Jab kisi aur ki barbaadi jeet jaise laage… toh humse zyada barbaad aur koi nahi hai iss duniya mein.”
Directed by Abhishek Varman, this particular movie is set during the last few years of a British governed India. From giving us a glimpse of the beautiful dance sequence by Madhuri Dixit, to showing us different scenes from that point of time, this teaser was needed to see what to expect from the movie. Produced by Karan Johar, Kalank is scheduled to hit the screens on the 17th of April this year!
