Gully Boy, perhaps one of the most anticipated films of the year, is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. From the teasers, to the trailer, to the songs, the wait for this Zoya Akhtar directorial has become all the more harder. Before you rush and book your tickets for Gully Boy (if you haven’t already,) here are our reasons why you should definitely watch this film!
1. A story about the rappers of India
Bollywood, as an industry, celebrates the underdogs and those who have great stories to their names. In light of all the biopics being made, it comes as no surprise the directors want to explore a new direction story wise. What makes this film further stand out is the fact no other movie in the Bollywood world has been made like this. With a focus on the street rappers of Mumbai (Divine and Naezy,) this movie is real, raw and hard hitting in every sense of the word!
2. A brand new pair
While we are used to seeing both Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt shine in their own lights as superstars, the fact they are sharing screen space for the first time is not lost on fans. Both known for being able to mould themselves into fitting any character, Gully Boy sees the stars shine in roles they haven’t played before. With no detail left unseen, it is going to be true treat to watch a new pair like this.
3. The songs
With Divine’s songs being used for the entire music album of the film, Gully Boy promises to be a rapper’s delight. Further, the dialogues of this film are like a long and drawn rap song, with every word acting as a metaphor to the bigger picture of sorts. Interestingly, Ranveer Singh’s talents as a rapper adds the much needed authenticity and gravitas to this film, making Gully Boy an extremely entertaining and gripping musical drama!
4. Zoya Akhtar
That Zoya Akhtar is a talented director is not an unknown fact. With an eye for detail and a focus on making everything perfect, all her movies have been brilliant. From Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, to Lust Stories and to Taalash, every movie she has directed turned out exceptionally well. Even with Gully Boy, the end picture promises to be just as captivating and well done as the others!
5. A presence of the real rappers
Although the entire cast does complete justice to the story of the rappers, the fact real rappers are present in the movie, is like an extremely delicious cherry on the cake. The rappers on whom the film is based add the much needed sense of authenticity and give the film the real Mumbai street touch!
With so many things going for the film, one can’t help but expect Gully Boy to be a raging success. If you agree, comment and let us know!
Zoya Factor First Look Released
Sonam Kapoor just shared the first look poster of her new film, Zoya Factor, on Twitter and it looks whimsical.
— Sonam K Ahuja (@sonamakapoor) May 23, 2019
Based on the novel written by Anuja Chauhan in 2008 and directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film is a romcom, which revolves around the life of an advertising agent and her relationship with the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team.
After her last film, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, received mixed reviews from both audience and critics, Sonam Kapoor is back with Zoya Factor, which seems to have an entertaining plot.
The film also features the Malayalam heart throb Dulquer Salmaan. This is his second venture into Bollywood, after Karwaan.
The poster showcases Sonam and Dulquer sitting in a cricket stadium and gazing into each other’s eyes. The chemistry between the leads seems to be on point in the poster. Fans can definitely expect this film to be a fun filled entertainer. Catch Zoya Factor in cinemas from 20th September 2019.
Movies To Watch With Your Mother
Despite Mother’s Day gone past us, there are so many ways one can celebrate their mother. One of the nicest ways to celebrate this day with your mother is by binge watching these beautiful Bollywood films and sharing a special day together:
1. Mother India
Mother India depicted the true strength and courage a mother has when it comes to protecting her child. Telling the story of Radha (Nargis) this movie shows how a mother fights all the obstacles around her to raise her children. A testament to a mother’s love and dedication toward her child, this movie should definitely be on the list of films to watch with your mother if you haven’t already!
2. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
While this mother daughter relationship might not be something we can relate with right now, what made it stand out when the film released was because of the underlying tone of understanding and secrecy shared between them. Right from the beginning, the way Farida Jalal understands what Kajol is going through and the kind of internal angst she faces, one can really appreciate the bond. As the movie progresses, one can see the relationship grow so much so that when we watch Farida tell Kajol to run away, it breaks your heart. Watch this movie and cuddle up with your mother, because the tears won’t stop flowing.
3. Bend it like Bekkham
So many times in life, we don’t appreciate what a mother goes through. Bend It Like Bekkham shows us exactly like this. On the one hand, you have a Punjabi mother desperate to show her daughter the “right way” and on the other, you have a mother trying to fit her into societal expectations. With both the mothers, there is one thing in common: a daughter who refuses to accept the rules. The parallel relationships make you appreciate all a mother does for you and if you want to tell your mother you understand her, then watch this movie!
4. Nil Battey Sannata
Perhaps one of the sweetest movies between a mother and her daughter, this film talks about how much a mother wants to see her daughter succeed in life. This need is so strong, the mother pushes herself to make sure her daughter studies and comes out a brilliant student. Not afraid of society and ridicule, the mother enroles herself in the same school as her daughter and motivates her in every way possible. So far, this movie is definitely a really well made film about how far a mother can go for a child. A must watch on Mother’s Day!
5. English Vinglish
We live at a time when language is unfortunately a barrier between relationships. This is exactly what happens in English Vinglish.Sridevi plays the role of a mother who isn’t confident with herself primarily because of the fact that she doesn’t know English. Thinking this is a drawback, she holds herself back from being all that she can. When she finally decides to start learning the language, the confidence is so great, it is almost like she transformed into another person. A coming of age movie, this film pulls at all the right heartstrings.
Watching movies like these with your mother is a great way to show her how much you love her. What is your favourite movie to watch with your mother on Mother’s Day? Comment and let us know!
PM Narendra Modi Trailer Released
After a long wait (and just short of the Lok Sabha elections,) the trailer of the biopic about PM Narendra Modi was released today. With Vivek Oberoi playing Narendra Modi, the trailer maps out the Prime Minister’s life from before his entrance into politics to being a Prime Minister. With subtle prosthetics and makeup done the right way, Oberoi has pulled off Modi’s character perfectly.
Opening to the days of Modi’s life as a tea seller at a railway station, the trailer moves forward to show how Modi ended up as one of the most important persons in India. With hard hitting slogans, the tri colour fluttering with pride and hints of anti Pakistani sentiments, this movie is a tribute to Modi. Watch the trailer here and now!
— Vivek Anand Oberoi (@vivekoberoi) March 20, 2019
Apart from giving us an insight into Modi’s life, the trailer also shows us what to expect from the different characters in the film. Furthermore, it also shows us Modi’s life as a child and about his self imposed exile from family and marriage life. From rescuing Muslims, to saving a burning Gujarat and to the victory of Modi’s party in 2014, this trailer shows Narendra Modi as not just a leader, but a man of action.
While some people argue, this movie is about furthering and promoting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the Lok Sabha elections, others say it is a dedication to the Party’s leader. Also starring Boman Irani, Manoj Sinha, Zarina Wahab, Barkha Bisht, Darshan Rawal, Akshat R. Saluja, Anjan Shrivastav, Rajendra Gupta and Yatin Karyekar, this biopic is directed by Omung Kumar.
With most of the film shot in Gujarat, the biopic is co produced by Sandeep Ssingh, Suresh Oberoi and Anand Pandit. Initially scheduled to release on the 12th of April, the release date of PM Narendra Modi was changed. This movie is now slated to hit the screens on the 5th of April this year.
Kalank First Song Ghar More Pardesiya Out Now
After keeping us all waiting with bated breath for something other than just a teaser, the makers of Kalank have finally released a brand new song! Titled Ghar More Pardesiya, this new song doesn’t have a conventional pair as the lead but is instead, centered around Alia Bhatt’s and Madhuri Dixit’s characters.
Written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, the voice has been given by Shreya Ghoshal and Vaishali Mhade. The song opens to Alia Bhatt’s and Varun Dhawan’s characters entering a Ramleela performance. While on the one side of the stage, Laxman draws the epic Lakshman Rekha in front of Sita, Madhuri Dixit’s character is seen swinging on the other side. Listen to the song here.

— Alia Bhatt (@aliaa08) March 18, 2019
What makes this song stand out is the way the attention to detail and the old school charm the song has. From the way the song was picturised, to the way Madhuri and Alia are dressed, the picturisation of this song has been perfectly done.
Days before the song was released, Alia teased everyone with tiny bits and pieces about how the shoot for the song went, “A song that gave me sleepless nights, days & months is coming very very soon.. I think you can safely say that I have never been SO nervous for anything in my life.. *screams frantically and hides under bed* You may have to send a search party to find me. Meanwhile watch this space for more.”
Directed by Abhishek Varman (known for other brilliant movies like 2 States,) this movie is the most awaited film of this year. Also starring Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur in key roles, Kalank is all set to hit the screens on the 17th of April this year!
Photograph Review And First Day Box Office Expectations
Director: Ritesh Batra
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sanya Malhotra
Rafiq (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is a street photographer who walks the streets of Mumbai trying to create special memories through polaroids. Into his frame walks Miloni (a CA, played by Sanya Malhotra.) However, while Rafi seems to think Miloni should definitely get a picture clicked, the latter is reluctant. Miloni finally succumbs to Rafi’s charms and persuasion skills and gets a picture clicked. The moment Rafi takes the picture, a conversation strikes up between Miloni and Rafi. The rest of the movie maps out to a family meeting on pretense and a slow romance in the works! With Miloni pretending to be Rafi’s fiancé Noor, the movie shows how the leads start getting closer even though they are playing a facade.
Despite being part of a world which is constantly obsessed with social media and staying connected, Ritesh Batra has created a setting similar to old school romance. As always, Ritesh Batra has breathed magic into every scene. Something as simple as a photograph (not a selfie, mind you,) is so powerful, it draws two strangers together. Who would have thought?
Photograph works for one basic reason. It pulls at the nostalgia strings of your heart! Miloni and Rafi realise they really do have a lot of things in common and these similar tastes and similar dislikes form the basis of a beautiful friendship between them, with hints of something more in the offing.
Like always, Nawazuddin’s acting skills are par excellence. With every line delivered perfectly and a perfect characterization of Rafiq, Nawazuddin delivers his dialogues with skills only a seasoned actor has. On her part, Sanya Malhotra also plays the role of Miloni really well. While in the beginning, she plays a reserved and slightly aloof character, Sanya seems to grow in a manner which shows her acceptance of the character she’s playing.
With some lines of resemblance drawn from Basu Chatterjee’s Chhoti Si Baat, Ritesh Batra has made quite a masterpiece with Photograph. All in all, with the cinematography and music adding a really fine feeling to the entire movie, this Ritesh Batra directorial is a delight. Watch it for the subtle nuances and the simplicity of the entire tale!
