Why Cheat India Review And First Day Box Office Expectations

Published

on

Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwanthary

Director: Soumik Sen

Story

Why Cheat India tells the story of Rakesh Sharma (Emraan Hashmi,) who runs a business wherein he uses  loopholes in the Indian education system and scams people. How? By hiring bright boys from an underprivileged background and getting them to write exams for the rich and privileged. Sharma has a simple goal: to help improve the lives of those who don’t have enough to make ends meet by making money from those who can afford to pay for proxy writers. Based on the life of Sattu, a boy who falls prey to Sharma’s plans, Why Cheat India takes one on a gripping journey of how people without privilege lived their lives.

Review

Innocence and desperation are perhaps two of the most vulnerable traits people have and when exploited, there is a lot to be gained by the person exploiting the others. Emraan Hashmi’s Why Cheat India, draws parallels for this story from these situations, where opportunists like Rakesh know from where they can make the most money. A slimy businessman with his own set of morals, Rakesh plays both sides of the  law in a way which ensures he is safe and protected, no matter what.

A daunting and gripping tale, Why Cheat India is the story not of a hero, but an anti hero who brings to life the various levels of corruption and crime which exist in our education system. A movie about the ultimate mafia (who quite literally controls the future of people’s life) of education, this particular Soumik Sen directorial is a story which needed to be told. Based in the slightly more backward areas of India (Janpur, Kota and Jhansi, for example,) Rakesh’s scams are in use the most here because of the sheer amount of pressure there is on the students to become engineers, doctors or MBA graduates.

However, while the plot is unique and storytelling is to the point, there are a few things which don’t make sense. A glaring hole with regard to Sharma’s past life makes one question his intentions of setting up this business and Sattu’s blind adoration for Rakesh seems a bit far fetched. All in all, with some brilliant performances by all the leads, Sen’s Why Cheat India tells the story of a flawed system and makes one question the integrity of the education system in India.

#27GoldenYearsofSRK – Best Performances Of SRK Till Date

#27GoldenYearsofSRK,Best Performances Of SRK Till Date,Mango Bollywood,Bollywood Celebs Latest News,#27YearsOfKingOfBollywood,27 Golden Years of SRK,Shahrukh Khan Best Performances,Shah Rukh Khan Golden Performances,SRK Completes 27 Years in Bollywood,SRK Best Movies

Twenty seven years ago today, an ordinary yet ambitious boy from Delhi made his silver screen debut with Deewana (1992.)  Back then, little did the world know this ordinary boy would become the King of Bollywood and rule it for decades.  Shah Rukh Khan or SRK, as he is popularly known, has had an incredible journey in Bollywood. From romantic and action to gangster, he experimented with various genres and gave us some extremely memorable characters.  Not just acting, King Khan has also won hearts by hosting award shows and giving TEDx talks and motivational speeches.

In these incredible 27 years, SRK featured in more than 80 films and received several accolades.  What better than this occasion to go down the memory lane and revisit some of his best performances till date.

1) Baazigar (1993)

In the 1993 film Baazigar, Shah Rukh Khan was seen as the son who sets out to take revenge for the death of his father and would stop at nothing.

SRK dared to play an anti hero in a generation where heroes were worshipped.  His acting was so intense and convincing, even though he played an anti hero who commits murders and deceives people, you still end up rooting for him.

2) Darr (1993)

Yet again, Shah Rukh Khan did not hesitate to take up a negative character.

With Darr, he proved to the world he is a supreme actor who is here to stay.  SRK was seen as an obsessive lover and a creepy stalker who can kill to get the love of his life.  Khan portrayed this character with such perfection, it gives you goosebumps. The little nuances in his acting and the dark vibe he brings to the screen with this character are commendable.  His intense looks are enough to convince you he is an obsessive lover indeed!

Who can forget the dialogue “k..k…k… Kiran?”

3) Devdas (2002)

In this Bhansali period drama, Devdas, you can see Shah Rukh Khan essaying the role of an intense lover.  No one could have done justice to this character like SRK did. His chemistry with Aishwarya, his alcohol addiction and troubles with family are played so well, it almost feels real.  The depth in his acting gives you yet another reason to call him the “King of Bollywood.”

4) Swades (2004)

Swades is arguably one of SRK’s best performances till date.  He took up a unique film like Swades at a time when he was gaining popularity as the King of Romance.  With his role in Swades, he proved to the world he can do more than just romance.

The film traces the journey of a NASA scientist, Mohan, who comes to India and realizes his duty towards his Country.

SRK’s intense performance pulls you into the film and you are bound to feel the emotions he feels on the screen.  His acting is so good, you will not find any traces of the King of Romance on the screen, all you can see is Mohan.

5) My Name Is Khan (2010)

Tracing the effects of the 9/11 attacks, this Karan Johar directorial witnessed Shah Rukh Khan deliver yet another gem of a performance.  SRK took up the role of Rizwaan Khan, a man with autism and portrayed it effortlessly on screen. Rizwaan’s innocent personality, his love for his people and the devastation he faces in his life are all delivered to perfection.  Once again, he set aside his superstar image and garnered the love of the audience as well as the critics.

These are a few of Shah Rukh Khan’s performances which we think were exceptional.  Apart from these films, SRK was also brilliant in Don (2006,) Chak De! India (2007,) Fan (2016,) Dear Zindagi (2016) and the list goes on and on.

We wish this Superstar many more successful years ahead.

The trailer opens with a voice over of the iconic radio jockey, Ameen Sayani, introducing the movie. Juxtaposed with scenes from Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Ameen’s voice over introduces Arjun Patiala as the 145th cop film in Bollywood!

Honest to the very minute, the trailer introduces Diljit Dosanjh’s character (Arjun Patiala) as a cute cop, Kriti Sanon (Ritu Randhawa) as the supremely dramatic heroine and Varun Sharma (Onida Singh) as the hero’s cop friend. Just like Arjun, Onida also has a hilarious story to his name and through the trailer, one gets glimpses of how his childhood was.

15 Years Of Lakshya – Bollywood Movies About War

15 Years Of Lakshya,Bollywood Movies About War,Mango Bollywood,Bollywood Movie Latest News,Hrithik Roshan on 15 years of Lakshya,Lakshya completes 15 years,Hrithik Roshan celebrates 15 years of Lakshya,Best Bollywood movies based on war stories,Best Bollywood War Movies

Remember how Hrithik Roshan grew up and joined the Indian Army to inspire the rest of us in Lakshya?  As today marks 15 years since the release of this film, here is taking a look at some war movies which were not just about the lives of Indian soldiers but also about war and what the soldiers went through:

1. Lakshya

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Lakshya told the story of Lieutenant Karan Shergill, who leads his squad to victory by capturing a territory taken over by Pakistan.  While war does play a crucial role in this movie, the other issue with which this film deals is how people grow when faced with responsibility.  From facing real life issues head on, to understanding the discipline and time which goes into becoming an adult, Lakshya is a true tribute to war and soldiers.

2. Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo

Directed by Anil Sharma, Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Sathiyo tells the story of how terrorists attacked the holy temple of Kedarnath.  Apart from the story about this attack, the film also talks about how a man joins the Indian Army for a few years before moving to the United States. However, after he joins, he realises the amount of effort which goes into being a soldier and from then on, everything about his life changes.  Everything about this movie is heartwarming and shows how much people can do when pushed into a corner.

3. LOC Kargil

Based on the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan, LOC Kargil was directed by J.P. Dutta.  A step by step account of everything which happened during the Kargil War, the film brings to the fore the hardships of war and what soldiers go through on a daily basis.  A multi layered story, LOC Kargil talks about the soldiers who made the entire operation a success.  Everything about this movie made you not only respect the amount of effort soldiers put into the war but also how much personal sacrifices they make for their country.

4. Airlift

Unlike the other films, Airlift tells the story of how a businessman helps evacuate Indians in Kuwait who are stuck there during the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein.  While this is one of the primary issues about which this movie talks, Airlift also looks at how the lead puts his personal life aside to help his fellow countrymen when in need.  A true patriotic movie, Airlift makes you fall in love with how far people can go to help their countrymen when required.

5. Border

Director J.P. Dutta’s shot to fame, Border was based on the Indo Pakistan War of 1971.  Touted to be one of the best war films to have been released, this movie showed what our soldiers went through to make our country a safe place.  From night patrols to killing men at gunpoint, Border makes you realise how deep the spirit of patriotism runs in a soldier’s blood.

If you think we missed out on any other great movies about war and soldiers giving their lives to protect their motherland, comment and let us know!
