There are stars who become famous after multiple films and then there are stars who have such amazing debuts, you wonder why they were not in the industry all along! With the Bollywood world being so fiercely competitive, it is important to take a moment and see how stars were made just through their debut movies. Here are stars who did so well in their first ever film, they ensured they had no competition whatsoever!
1. Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan redefined success with his first ever film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, a movie which not only changed the way films were made, but also gave people something truly great to remember! Debuting in such a brilliant movie, Aamir Khan was given the name Mr. Perfectionist post the film’s release. With Juhi Chawla as his costar, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was quite certainly Aamir’s ticket to fame. Interestingly, did you know Imran Khan also made his first ever appearance on the silver screen with this movie? He played baby Raj! How cool is that? Two birds, one stone!
2. Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt, popularly known as Sanju or Sanju Dada, made his big fat Bollywood debut with Rocky! Not only did he look amazingly good in the film, he also had skills to prove his worth! When the film hit the screens in 1981, it established Sanjay Dutt not only as a brilliant actor, but a force to be reckoned with in the industry!
3. Alia Bhatt
When Alia Bhatt made her debut with Karan Johar‘s Student of the Year, everyone wondered how far the pretty lady would go in the industry. Little did everyone know the pretty newbie was going to make heads turn for not just the way she looks, but the way she acts as well! In the last six years, she has grown from film to film with grace, creating a niche for herself with her stellar acting skills!
4. Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh, a man now synonymous with everything quirky and crazy, had a Bollywood debut exactly like him. When he entered the film world with Band Baaja Baaraat, he blew everyone’s brains out by the way he acted and the way he made his magnetic personality felt with consistency. From then on, there has been no stopping this dude, giving everyone just the right kind of feels!
5. Anushka Sharma
Not many have the luck to make their debut in the industry opposite Shah Rukh Khan. When Anushka Sharma entered the industry opposite this man, people were spellbound by her gorgeous looks and brilliant acting skills. Now, the actress is among the highest paid stars in the industry and no one can quite match her talents!
6. Arjun Kapoor
When this unconventionally good looking hunk made his big Bollywood debut in Ishaqzaade, people realised there was a new face in town. From being really good with his dialogue delivery and to the point with his acting, Arjun Kapoor made his mark felt right from the word ‘go!’
7. Deepika Padukone
Perhaps the only other actress who has made her debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in her debut film (Om Shanti Om,) Deepika Padukone stole everyone’s hearts with her gorgeous looks and captivating smile. Now, all these years later, Deepika has created a place for herself in a cut throat industry, making sure no competition crosses her path.
With so many people making their Bollywood debut in a brilliant way, each star has carved their own fates in the field. Who is your favourite actor? Comment and let us know!
Simmba Song, Aankh Marey, Is Here
“Oh God! One more remake!” is Karan Johar’s opening line in Aankh Marey (a remake of the song from the 1996 movie, Tere Mere Sapne,) the just dropped song from Ranveer Singh’s and Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film, Simmba! While the last few years were all about the makeovers and revised versions, this old favourite has been remade quite well! Unlike the other remakes which released this year, Aankh Marey seems fresh and entertaining, without destroying the feels of the original song.
Written by Shabbir Ahmed, this song opens to Karan Johar dancing to the beats. Moving through the song, there are different scenes with Sara Ali Khan and Ranveer Singh grooving to the tunes of this peppy number. Listen to it here.
Old-skool jam <—> Nu-skool cred !!!

The makers also give us a special performance in the middle of the song! While there was talk about a special appearance, not many would have thought it was going to be made by the Golmaal cast! Halfway through the song, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade and Tushar Kapoor join Arshad Warsi in paying respects to the original song from Tere Mere Sapne. While the original version of this song was sung by Kumar Sanu and Kavita Krishnamurthy, this new song is sung by Neha Kakkar, Mika Singh and Kumar Sanu.
Simmba is a remake of the 2015 Tollywood super hit movie, Temper. Directed by Rohit Shetty, this film sees Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan playing key roles. Furthermore, Simmba also sees Sonu Sood in a very strong negative role. Simmba is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and is scheduled to hit the screens on the 28th of December this year!
Uri Trailer Released
After keeping us all on tenterhooks with stills and teasers from Uri: The Surgical Strike, Vicky Kaushal’s next film, the makers finally dropped the trailer a little while ago. Although the teaser and the posters had already set the anticipation levels quite high, the trailer increased the hype all the more.
The just dropped trailer tells the story of how the Indian Army conducted a series of surgical strikes in retaliation to the alleged attacks by a terror group from Pakistan in Uri, a district in Kashmir. Watch the trailer here and now!
— Vicky Kaushal (@vickykaushal09) December 5, 2018
The trailer opens with Yami Gautami (playing the role of an intelligence officer) interrogating a suspect. The two and a half minute trailer then moves forward to show Vicky Kaushal training his team and delivering a hard hitting speech which makes his soldiers fight for India with renewed vigour. The line, “Indian Army didn’t start this war, but we will bloody hell finish it,” forms the central crux of this thrilling movie and is seen resonating throughout the trailer as well.
It’s refreshing to see Bollywood deliver such a hard hitting and intense drama after such a long time. With Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautami and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles, Uri: The Surgical Strike promises to be an exciting watch, to say the least. Directed and written by Aditya Dhar, Uri: The Surgical Strike has all the leads putting their best foot forward.
Speaking about Uri: The Surgical Strike, Dhar earlier said, “This is the story of what happened in those eleven days. It’s an honour and very reassuring to be backed by Ronnie Screwvala and to execute on this vision and what we believe is an engaging and thrilling story inspired by this true-life incident.” Uri: The Surgical Strike is scheduled to hit the screens on the 11th of January, 2019!
World AIDS Day 2018: Movies That Raised Awareness On AIDS
Over the years, Bollywood has tried hard to broach subjects which are considered a taboo. AIDS is one such issue. On World AIDS Day, here’s taking a look at movies which tried to remove the stigma around HIV and tried to raise awareness about the subject!
1. AIDS Jaago
Directed by Farhan Akhtar, Mira Nair, Santosh and Vishal Bharadwaj, AIDS Jaago was a series of four short stories which aimed to spread awareness about AIDS. Addressing the issue and breaking the myths related to this disease, these short stories conveyed strong points. Called Migration, Blood Brothers, Positive and Prarambha, the four short stories came from different parts of the country and each had a different point to make about AIDS.
2. Phir Milenge
Directed by Revathi with Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan and Salman Khan in the lead roles, Phir Milenge talked about how an employee was wrongfully terminated after being diagnosed with HIV. Inspired by Philadelphia, Phir Milenge worked primarily because it didn’t sensationalize AIDS and talked about the things people who contract it have to go through in their lives post the diagnosis.
3. My Brother…Nikhil
Directed by Onir, the film My Brother…Nikhil had Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Suri in the lead roles. Based on the story of Dominic D’Souza, an AIDS activist and a man who worked at the World Wildlife Fund, this film focused on the issue of not just HIV/AIDS, but on homosexuality as well! With Nikhil as the protagonist, the movie maps his life after being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Not only does he get thrown out of all the teams he was a part of, his parents also disown him. What makes this movie so beautiful is that despite the amount of things Nikhil faces, his sister stands by him through thick and thin!
Directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, Nidaan tells the story of a girl who contracts HIV/AIDS because of a blood transfusion that goes horribly wrong. Unlike the other movies mentioned in this list, what makes this particular film so special is the emotional angle the director takes on with the film. While the technical aspects of the movie aren’t spot on, the fact that the family wants to spend whatever time they have with their daughter is what makes one empathize with the story!
A short film directed by Farhan Akhtar, Positive talks about how a man finds out his father was diagnosed with HIV a long time ago. With only a little time left, the story talks about how the son has to come to terms with his father’s extra marital affair and about how he chooses to deal with the little time the two have left. With Arjun Mathur, Shabana Azmi and Boman Irani playing the lead roles in this film, Positive tries to bring out what a family goes through when hit with a news like this.
6. 68 Pages
Directed by Sridhar Rangayan, 68 Pages talks about the relationship between an HIV counsellor and the five patients who come to her for therapy. Perfectly showing the different stigmas around AIDS as a disease and showing how people deal with the disease once diagnosed. An emotionally detached movie, 68 Pages was apt in more ways than one, even more so because the counsellor talks about how she feels in the 68 pages of her diary!
Today, on World AIDS Day, here is looking forward to more movies which address this issue. If you think we missed out on other movies which have to be on this list, comment and let us know!
Robo 2.0: Five Reasons To Watch
Rajinikanth’s and Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated film, 2.0, is all set to hit the screens tomorrow and people cannot be more excited. With all the buzz going around the sequel to Enthiran, there is definitely more than one reason to watch this amazing film, right? Still not convinced? Worry not, because we have a list of reasons which will definitely make you want to watch this unique movie on the big screens tomorrow!
1. Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth
While there have been other films where Tollywood and Bollywood actors acted together in key roles, it is definitely going to be the first time Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth are going to share the silver screen. While Akshay Kumar plays the super villain all set to bring down a world of pain, Rajinikanth is going to play the role of the good guy! What could be more interesting than watching one of Bollywood’s finest play the bad guy opposite the Superstar of Tollywood? Interestingly, this is also the first time Amy Jackson will be seen sharing the same screen space as these two stars!
2. Akshay Kumar as a super villain
Akshay Kumar, who won the National Film Award for playing the role of a good guy, is going to play a super villain for the first time in his career. Be it in movies like Toilet Ek Prem Katha or in Holiday, Akshay Kumar has always played the good guy and to see him play the opposite character in 2.0 is going to be interesting, to say the least!
3. The huge budget of this movie
While there have been other movies made on a massive budget, Rajinikanth’s and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 is perhaps one of the most expensive ones to date. Made with Rs. 545 crores, the makers of 2.0 spent a lot on the promotions as well. In fact, when the first poster was launched, the team spent a whopping Rs. 6 crores on the launch party alone!
4. Music and VFX
The makers made sure they left no stone unturned to ensure 2.0 is a visual treat like no other. With advanced technology and a VFX team that made sure they gave this movie their all, 2.0 is going to be one of the most technologically advanced movies ever made in recent history. Furthermore, with the music of the film composed by A.R. Rahman, excitement is definitely what can be expected.
5. The plot
Not only is Robot 2.0 a crossover film like no other, it also has a really interesting storyline. While the prequel to the film ended with parts of Rajinikanth’s character,Chitti, the robot, scattered all over the screen, it is going to be intriguing to see how the script forges his body parts back together and to see what path the characters follow through the movie!
With so many firsts coming together in one movie, this movie is going to be worth the wait for sure. Hurry and book your tickets now, if you haven’t already!
Looking At Arjun Rampal’s Best Movies On His Birthday
Arjun Rampal, one of the most good looking men in Bollywood, turns a year older today and on his birthday, here’s taking a look at his best movies!
1. Kahaani 2
Not very well known for playing the role of a cop, Arjun Rampal proved everyone wrong by doing a brilliant job in Kahaani 2. Playing the Sub Inspector charged with solving the case of Rani Singh (played by Vidya Balan,) Rampal did a truly commendable job with this particular character! One of his finest movies so far!
Directed by Sudhir Mishra, Rampal plays the role of Rahul Verma, a CEO charged with sexual harassment, in Inkaar. A movie centered around a corporate atmosphere with a harassment case as the central plot, Rampal plays a very convincing character in Inkaar.
3. Om Shanti Om
Farah Khan’s directorial debut saw Arjun Rampal play the role of a producer out to get what he wants, no matter what the consequences. Playing the role of a man who lets his own desires go so far as to commit murder, Rampal’s characterisation of a dark character was perfect!
Anurag Kashyap set the ball rolling for Bollywood’s love for crime thrillers post the massive success of Gangs of Wasseypur. However, there weren’t too many great films made with a similar plot line post the release of Gangs of Wasseypur and Daddy was a fresh awakening in this genre. A man who works hard to get a leg up in the political world, no matter what, Rampal’s acting was flawless in Daddy.
Through the years, Prakash Jha has proved that as a director, he can most certainly bring out the best from Arjun Rampal. Another brilliant political drama, Chakravyuh showed where Rampal truly shines as an actor and boy, was the movie a super hit! A character who is caught in the midst of a Naxal invaded district, Rampal’s character shows what happens when your political views intersect with your personal relationships.
6. Rock On
Both Rock On 1 and Rock On 2 showed the best of Rampal’s acting skills. As a musician who grew to become a businessman, Rampal showed how if you worked hard enough, you can get what you want!
On Arjun Rampal’s birthday, here’s wishing for more amazing movies like these! Happy birthday, Arjun Rampal! If you think we missed out on any other amazing movies by him, comment and let us know!
