Every culture and every country celebrates its heroes differently. Some immortatise their heroes in the form of books while others do so through the reel world. It is through the world of cinema we found the best way to bring to life the struggles of some of the truly greats. Bollywood as an industry has done justice to the stars of days gone  by with some commendable biopics. To make your Tuesdays slightly better, here is looking at some biopics that really brought out what we could not see.

1. Gandhi (1982)

Gandhi, based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the man who gave his life to the country, is a film for the ages. The movie chronicled the life of this great man and talked about how he worked hard so that the India he loved stayed proud and free. Despite being a film made in the United Kingdom, as a biopic, this film definitely takes the cake and cherry!

2. Bandit Queen (1994)

This 1994 film was based on the life of Phoolan Devi, one of the most famously infamous bandits in the 1970s. She rose to fame by being the only woman who could fight as well as the other men in her group. After a long struggle against several rival groups, Phoolan Devi and her remaining team surrendered to the police in the year 1983. Not only did she rule the under belly of the Mumbai Mafia with an iron fist, she also earned herself a seat in the Parliament! With the exceptionally talented Seema Biswas as Phoolan Devi, Bandit Queen was an extremely powerful piece of work, chronicling the rise and fall of Phoolan Devi. Directed by Shekhar KapurBandit Queen won the National Film Award for the Best Feature Film in Hindi.

3. The Dirty Picture (2011)

Based on the much talked about life of Silk Smitha, one of the most controversial actresses from the South, The Dirty Picture was a success even before it hit the silver screen. Even though Vidya Balan stole the show as Silk, the rest of the cast did an equally brilliant job. The main crux of this film centered around how despite building up eroticism, the Indian film industry refused to accept it in public!

4. Neerja (2016)

Based on the life of Neerja Bhanot, Neerja focused on how this air hostess saved the life of 327 out of 329 passengers. The movie revolves around the highjacking of the Pan Ann 73 Flight in Karachi. Not only is Sonam Kapoor‘s acting the best so far, the film brings to life Neerja’s daunting spirit and commendable sacrifice for the people she was serving.

5. Bhaag Milka Bhaag (2013)

Based on the life of Milka Singh, a National Medal Award winning runner, Bhaag Milka Bhaag was widely appreciated for the stark portrayal of the many challenges faced by Milka Singh in his race to the top. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film was also recognised for the traumatic effects of India after India Pakistan partition of 1947 and about how it shaped Milka’s childhood.

While these are just some of the truly great biopics in the history of Bollywood biopics, there were other films like PadMan, Mary Kom and Paan Singh Tomar which left a lasting mark. If you still have not watched any of the above, then you definitely are missing out on some great stories! If you think we missed out on any great biopics that need to be mentioned in the list, feel free to comment and let us know!

Like every year, this past year in Bollywood was all about setting new trends, especially when it came to fashion. From bringing back jackets and ponchos, to making silver chic again, this last year has been exciting to say the least! Here’s everything which happened with fashion in Bollywood!

1. All that glitters is gold!

Move over bright reds and maroons, the year is for gold and ivory colours, at least when it comes to wedding clothes and styles. From Anamika Khanna (who designed an entire collection titled “Reinventing Nudes,”) to Jayanti Reddy and Payal Singhal, everyone loves these colours on them! In fact, even the celebrities are loving these new shades.

2. Monochrome is the order of the season

While the last year was all about mixing colours and shades, the year 2018 was about black and white. Surprisingly, even the Lakme Fashion Week saw a large presence of these colours, with designers from Nikhil Thampi to Shantanu and Nikhil showcasing these colours in their collection!

3. All about the pastels

This past year in fashion is all about embracing and accepting the softer shades of life. With large splashes of blues and pinks, designers like Anushree Reddy and Gaurang Shah dedicated entire collections to these colours! In fact, pastels are the only shades which are always around, no matter what.

4. All about the jackets, capes and ponchos

If you thought the time for jackets, capes and ponchos was long gone, then think again. From sheer capes to embellished ponchos and to embroidered dresses, this year was all about experimenting with styles from the good old days. If you are thinking of upping your wardrobe game, then you should definitely check out some uber cool styles by Rahul Mishra.

5. Silver is the flavour of the season

All that glitters this year in fashion is not gold, but silver! In fact, it was such a brilliant colour and so loved by everyone, that even Karan Johar sported this colour with pride! Did you know, the ever flamboyant director dyed his hair silver for the Falguni Shane Peacock Collection? How chic is that?

6. Flowers for the win

Flowers may wither and die, but as a style statement, they are always in vogue. From Anita Dongre who took inspiration from “a garden of flowers” for her new collection, to Julie Shah who presented a new collection called Gulab Baug, all the designers are embracing this trend with a renewed vigour!

It goes without saying the last year was quite an exciting one in Bollywood, right? What do you think the coming year has in store for Bollywood and fashion? Comment and let us know!

Cheat India Trailer Released

Published

Cheat India Trailer Released, Cheat India Theatrical trailer out now, Cheat India Movie Latest Update, Cheat India Movie trailer Review, Emraan Hashmi Cheat India Movie News, Emraan Hashmi Upcoming Movie Latest News, Mango Bollywood

Cheat India, Emraan Hashmi’s first production, finally has a trailer to its name. While Hashmi and team gave us a series of posters and teasers as an idea of what to expect from the film, the just dropped trailer tell us exactly what the film is about.

With Emraan Hashmi in the lead, Cheat India highlights the other side of the Indian education system. The longer than 2 minutes trailer shows Emraan playing the role of a man who says there is nothing wrong in taking money from the rich if it helps the poor get to a better place. Watch the trailer here.

Gripping, tight and to the point, the trailer shows Hashmi’s character playing the role of a middleman. Taking money from the rich and paying members from the lower factions of society to write exams, Hashmi’s character is unapologetic with this scam. Moving far away from the cliches a story like this can have, Cheat India tells a story many of us have only read in the papers or seen on the news.

The trailer is extremely well made and makes the most of the time in hand, with Emraan Hashmi moving away from being the eternal “serial kisser.” The no nonsense trailer is a relief and quite an eye opener, giving one hope this film is going to be a refreshing change in the current time in the world of Bollywood movies.

Directed by Soumik Sen, this particular Emraan Hashmi starrer shows the world the underworld side of education and how people can go to any  length to get what they want. Co produced by the makers of Tumhari Sulu and Neerja, Cheat India is scheduled to hit the screens on 25th January, 2019!

Kedarnath Review

Published

on

Kedarnath Review, Kedarnath Movie Review And First Day Expectations, Sara Ali Khan Sushant Singh Rajput film, Sushant Singh Rajput Sara Ali Khan chemistry, Kedarnath Movie Latest News and Updates, reasons to watch Kedarnath, Mango Bollywood, Kedarnath Box Office Collections, Kedarnath Review and Rating, Kedarnath Movie Public Talk

Cast: Sara Ali Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Pooja Gor and Nitish Bhardwaj

Director: Abhishek Kapoor

Story

Based on a love story that comes together in the light of a tragic life altering disaster, Abhishek Kapoor’s Kedarnath brings together multiple issues (love through religions and natural calamities to name a few,) weaving a beautiful tale toward the end. Centered around the cloud burst and the subsequent flash floods of 2013 in Uttarakhand, Kedarnath attempts at bridging the gap caused by religion in the wake of a natural calamity.

Review

Mansoor Khan, a local porter (played by Sushant Singh Rajput,) falls in love with Mukku, a Hindu girl (played by Sara Ali Khan) visiting the holy temple of Kedarnath. While Mukku’s and Mansoor’s parents play the disapproving parents of children who fall in love despite all that is against them, Mansoor plays the man who proves that he doesn’t care about all the odds very obviously stacked against him.

With the devastating floods playing one of the key elements in this particular movie, the strong love between the two leads (with their own fair share of drama,) makes for the rest of the parts. As Sara Ali Khan’s debut film, Kedarnath could not have worked better in bringing out the best in her. Another point that works really well for this Abhishek Kapoor directorial is the fact, it proves love exists no matter what. In fact, one of the key points in this movie is the way Kapoor shows Muslim porters living in harmony in a town where Shiva is the main idol.

While Sara Ali Khan plays the girl who just cannot stop talking, Sushant Singh Rajput plays the role of an unconventional hero. With seasoned ease and skill, Sushant Singh Rajput shows us the many layers involved in a sensitive issue such as love between people belonging to different religions. Although Abhishek Kapoor seems to be constantly revising a story already told multiple times in the past, Kedarnath has its own positives in the way story is treated. While the story may be one which has already been told, the film is refreshing and is worth a watch!
