From fairy tale weddings to tragic endings to scandals and controversies, Bollywood has always been in the limelight. What makes this seemingly untouchable industry so attractive is the real life which is far more interesting than the reel life drama. Here is looking at some truly dramatic love triangles in Bollywood!
1. Rekha | Amitabh Bachchan | Jaya Badhuri
Remember Neetu’s and Rishi Kapoor’s wedding? Rekha sparked some solid rumours when she showed up at the wedding with a sindhoor on her head and a mangalsutra on her neck. Everyone started talking about the fact that the two tied the knot in secret! Amitabh Bachchan’s and Rekha’s love story started with one film and ended with another. They fell in love for the first time on the sets of Do Anjaane and ended things for the last time on the sets of Silsila. Amitabh was already married to Jaya Badhuri at this point, which is why, according to reports, Amitabh and Rekha had to break things off as there seemed to be no future in sight.
2. Katrina Kaif | Ranbir Kapoor | Deepika Padukone
Ranbir Kapoor, the ultimate playboy of Bollywood, won as many hearts as he broke. Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor met, became friends and fell in love. Everyone wanted to be them and was jealous of them. However, their happiness was not meant to be. The seemingly forever after dream broke with the entry of Katrina Kaif! Ranbir and Deepike broke up after dating for two years, when Ranbir broke the news about his torrid affair with the long legged Katrina Kaif. Unlike the Rekha, Amitabh and Jaya story, all the details are out! Ranbir and Katrina went on to date for six long years!
3. Shahid Kapoor | Kareena Kapoor Khan | Saif Ali Khan
Kareena Kapoor Khan’s and Shahid Kapoor’s love story was the stuff of fairy tales. They were young, they were in love and they had their life goals in place. Or so it seemed. Trouble in paradise started when Kareena Kapoor started spending more time with Saif Ali Khan on and off the sets of Tashan! A mere two and a half years into the relationship, Kareena Kapoor Khan broke it off with Shahid Kapoor and ran into the waiting arms of Saif Ali Khan! The rest as they say, is history!
4. Abhishek Bachchan | Karishma Kapoor | Sunjay Kapur
When Abhishek Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor got engaged, everyone was in a frenzy. The children of Bollywood’s royalty were tying the knot and people could not keep calm. Just when the marriage was coming closer, into the picture came Sunjay Kapur! A broken hearted Abhishek Bachchan was quite literally left at the alter, with Karishma Kapoor running into the arms of Sunjay Kapur for her happily ever after!
5. Salman Khan | Aishwarya Rai Bachchan | Vivek Oberoi
Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fell in love and started dating while shooting for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. However, when news broke about Salman Khan physically and mentally abusing Aishwarya, the relationship ended. Aishwarya Rai, then found solace in Vivek Oberoi. However, that relationship ended just as soon as it had started as well.
Bollywood truly does it have it all and this is what makes the industry so exciting. If you think we missed out on any dramatic love triangles, let us know in the comments below!
Bollywood Movies All About Food
Food, colour, camera and Bollywood always go hand in hand. There’s something truly magical about watching a movie which brings to life all your favourite cuisines, coupled with a beautiful love story. If you’re a foodie and love Bollywood movies, what could be better than this combination, right? We agree! Here’s taking a look at movies which don’t just make your mouth water, but also tug at your heartstrings:
1. Stanley Ka Dabba
A mean principal who looks at stealing food from students and a child who wants to share his food with his friends: Stanley Ka Dabba tells a two tiered story. With food playing the unifying factor, the movie tells the story of how a little boy confronts not just his bully, but also how he comes to terms with his past. A beautiful movie through and through, Stanley Ka Dabba is heartwarming in every way! The bottom line? No matter what happens, good food always warms your soul.
2. Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana
A lot can happen over a hot pot of curry and if you watch Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, you realise just how true this fact is. A family gets into a major crisis and the only thing which can save the family from ruins is if they find the secret ingredient which makes the chicken curry taste so amazing! A treat to not just the eyes but the stomach as well, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana has a simple message: a good recipe takes time to perfect and once that happens, everything falls in place.
3. Cheeni Kum
Have you ever fallen in love with someone because the sugar was too less in your food? Cheeni Kum shows how despite having differences in the way certain dishes are cooked, you can still find an acceptable middle ground. To recreate Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao in itself is an extremely hard task. To get it right to perfection is even harder. Amitabh Bachchan, playing the role of the chef, realises he’s not always right, when Tabu’s character tells him the right recipe of Hyderabadi Zafrani Pulao does have sugar! While at the surface of things, Cheeni Kum may seem like a run of the mill love story, if you look at the subtle nuances, there is a lot more. Attention to detail, the love for one’s country and food which is always cooked in the best possible way, this movie is all things beautiful!
4. English Vinglish
There are so many times when you watch a movie and are surprised by how there are still certain stigmas and principles people follow despite being supremely educated. English Vinglish shows us just that. While the central character (played by Sridevi,) is a mother whose family doesn’t consider her opinions because she doesn’t know English, the movie shows how despite all the pitfalls, the mother still runs her own business! Discovering the fact that she is an entrepreneur (famous for her laddus,) the mother realises knowing English isn’t the most important thing in the world. With food playing the central theme of this particular film, English Vinglish is more than just a mother accepting she can change the ways of her life, but also how food can make even the worst situations right.
5. Ramji Londonwaley
When you see a Tamilian Brahmin working as a chef in London (while living there illegally,) you think you are in for a different story altogether. They say, the way to a man’s heart is through food, but in Ramji Londonwaley, the central character (played by R. Madhavan,) does the exact opposite! He uses food to impress not only the love of his life, but also the people of London, by coming up with the recipe for a sugar free halwa! Not only does this help him win the hearts of the people in London, this also helps the lead win over his lady love. Talk about love through food done right!
6. The Lunchbox
When you think Mumbai, you think lunch boxes, crowded trains and people shuffling to and fro. When you think The Lunchbox, these very same thoughts are brought to life! A misdelivered lunchbox brings to life the story of two unhappy people and a letter which forms a unique love story. Witty repartee, hidden secrets and a strong craving for good food make this story all the more beautiful. With an open ending and a beautiful tale, The Lunchbox is a story of acceptance and finding love.
7. Dawat E Ishq
Love doesn’t just develop with the hope of a happy tummy, but by having the love for something truly good. A girl from Hyderabad, who’s sick of men asking for dowry, tries duping a chef from Lucknow. However, with all the tangdi kebabs and the biryanis, true love blossoms. Like every movie with food as the central theme, Dawat E Ishq also talks about how in every situation, food can fix everything!
When food brings you so much joy, why not share the joy of food while watching movies about food? If you think we missed out on any other movies with food playing a pivotal role in the story, comment and let us know!
Sushant Singh Rajput’s Birthday – From An Engineer To An Actor
Sushant Singh Rajput, an actor who grew to fame with the show Pavitra Rishta, has quite an inspiring story to tell. As the actor celebrates his birthday today, here’s taking a look at his journey from being a student of engineering to becoming one of the most sought after actors in the world of Bollywood!
From engineering to theater
The youngest son of a government official, Sushant Singh Rajput never aimed to become an actor. With an eye for the sciences and a passion to achieve something impossible, the actor wanted to become an engineer. However, Sushant also had the passion for dancing and while working on getting his engineering degree, he joined Shiamak Davar’s institute of dance!
Dancing gave Sushant a new lease of life and halfway through his degree, he decided to take a leap of faith by leaving the educational path of life for acting! In fact, in a recent interview, Sushant even said, unless Shiamak Davar hadn’t pushed him to do theater, he would never have thought of moving from Delhi to Mumbai to pursue his dreams. To improve his acting skills, Sushant even joined Barry John’s theater classes, a choice which gave him the confidence of getting better at his craft!
The initial days of acting
Acting gave Sushant Singh Rajput the freedom of hiding behind a character on the stage. Working through a character helped him break through his fear of speaking in front of a large audience and helped him accept that it was truly liberating to do theater! Just like any struggling actor, Sushant Singh Rajput was desperately waiting for his big filmy break. In fact, he used to push through the throngs and played the role of extras in more than one film just so he could get recognized!
While on the sets of one of his plays, Sushant got discovered by the casting team of Balaji Telefilms. The team auditioned him and roped him in for Pavitra Rishta. The moment Sushant entered the world of television as Manav Deshmukh in Pavitra Rishta, there was no turning back for him.
The big break in Bollywood
While Pavitra Rishta may have been Sushant’s ticket to the Bollywood world, it was his role as a crazed cricket fan in Kai Po Che which made everyone sit up and take notice. Kai Po Che gave Sushant a much needed break in Bollywood and with one brilliant performance after another, there was absolutely no looking back for the actor. What sealed his fate in Bollywood was perhaps the amazing performance he gave by playing the role of M.S. Dhoni in Neeraj Pandey’s biopic based on the life of M.S. Dhoni (M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story.) This biopic was appreciated by not just the audience, but the critics as well.
Sushant Singh Rajput has been part of a wide array of films and is one of the few actors to never be typecast into one single kind of role. While he played the role of a porter in Kedarnath, he will play the role of a dacoit in Sonchiriya (scheduled to release on the 8th of February this year.)
With no connections at all in the world of Bollywood, Sushant’s journey to the top is one filled with struggles and a dream to make his passion come true. Here’s wishing the extremely talented (and good looking actor,) a very happy birthday and a life filled with more amazing performances down the road!
Bollywood Stars Who Disappeared From The Spotlight
The world of Bollywood is a strange one. There are celebrities who rise to fame and stay on top and then there are others who fail despite tasting success. While at one point, they were adored and fawned over, these very stars are now forgotten and have disappeared from the spotlight. Remember Laila Khan? Debuting opposite Rakesh Khanna with Wafa in the year 2008, the actress disappeared from Mumbai shortly after the miserable failure of her grand debut. What makes matters worse, shortly after Laila moved from Mumbai, she was found dead. Her story is just one of the many among those whose lives were either cut short or who disappeared without a trace of any sorts. Check out the list here!
1. Parveen Babi
Known for her amazing performances in not one, but a host of films, Parveen Babi was perhaps one of the most famous actresses of her time. From breaking all conventional barriers by sporting bikinis, to featuring on the cover of the Time magazines, Parveen Babi was always a class act. However, despite all the success surrounding her life, she went off the radar of the film industry in the mid eighties. For a little over a decade, no one knew where she was and when she eventually returned in the year 1989, she was a whole new person. Suffering from schizophrenia, Parveen Babi was convinced everyone she knew was out to get her. Ostracising herself, Babi died a lonely death in her apartment in the year 2005.
2. Raj Kiran
A favourite of the mid range Bollywood directors, Raj Kiran had quite a few successful films (Kagaz Ki Nao, Hip Hip Hurray and Arth) to his name. Despite never making it to the big leagues, Raj Kiran was considered to be quite a popular actor during the ’80s. However, despite being at the peak of his career, one of the major things which went against him was his addiction to alcohol. After a point, Raj’s obsession with alcohol was so high, he got into regular brawls and his reputation started getting affected. Producers and directors stopped wanting to do films with him. He disappeared so quickly, the rumour mill was even saying the actor passed away! There was absolutely no news of him till almost 2011! It was only after Rishi Kapoor found him at an asylum did people stop believing the worst.
3. Bharat Bhushan
One of Bollywood’s biggest stars during the 1940s, Bharat Bhushan had a lot going for him. Known for being a part of several mythological films, Bharat Bhushan rose to fame with Baiju Bawra in the year 1952. Ruling the industry for almost 30 years, Bhushan was known for giving some truly brilliant performances in his career. Unfortunately, one of the main things which went against him was the affair he had with Meena Kumari, a move which almost destroyed not just his name, but his career as well. Slowly fading from the industry, the actor started losing out on offers and as a result, the money also stopped coming. Not known for being a saver, Bharat Bhushan lost all his savings and during the last few days of his life, worked as a watchman at a film studio. The actor breathed his last in the year 1992.
4. Mamta Kulkarni
During the 1990s, Mamta Kulkarni was always in the headlines. From starring topless on the cover of a magazine, to making a sensational debut (Tirangaa in 1993,) Mamta was all over the newspapers for everything she did or said. Playing several major roles opposite stars like Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor, Mamta Kulkarni was the talk of the town till she accused Rajkumar Santoshi, the director of China Gate, for molesting her. In return, Rajkumar Santoshi accused Vivek Goswami (Mamta’s rumoured boyfriend) of threatening his life. Soon after, Mamta disappeared from the Bollywood scene. The last thing heard about her was, she was living in Dubai with Goswami!
5. Priya Gill
Priya Gill had a pretty successful career during her early days in Bollywood. With films like Tere Mere Sapne and Sirf Tum, the actress had a lot going for her. However, without really being too particular about the kind of films she did, Priya’s fame started plummeting. Amongst some of the films which majorly failed, movies like Bade Dilwale and Josh, did particularly horribly. With no hopes of ever making her presence in the industry felt again, the actress disappeared from the world of Bollywood altogether!
6. Anu Aggarwal
Anu Aggarwal’s story is perhaps one of the most tragic stories when it comes to celebrities who disappeared from the world of Bollywood. Anu Aggarwal was best known for her performance in Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui. Almost reaching the category of brilliant actresses, Aggarwal’s rise to fame was cut short when the actress met with a horrific road accident. She slipped into a coma for a month and true to her Bollywood life, she made a comeback with a tell all book about what happened to her. Unfortunately, Aggarwal doesn’t do any movies now.
Bollywood has seen a lot of people come in and go from the industry without leaving a mark with their work. However, the ones who left, despite making an impact with their movies, are the ones which make you wonder where they went. If you think we missed mentioning any other celebrities who disappeared like this, comment and let us know!
Hrithik Roshan’s Birthday – Tracing The Greek God’s Journey
Although Hrithik Roshan may have been born with a silver spoon, his journey in Bollywood has been quite a ride. From having a debut in a movie which was an instant success, to overcoming not one, but two massive surgeries, Hrithik has been through a film worthy journey even in real life. As the actor turns a year older today, here’s taking a look at his impressive journey.
1. Dethroning all the bigwigs of Bollywood
When the then 26 year old Hrithik Roshan made his Bollywood debut with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, he broke all records. Not only was it the best debut anyone could hope to have, it also earned Hrithik Roshan all the major awards of that year. In fact, even though Abhishek Bachchan, another star kid in his own right, made his debut with Refugee during the same year, it was Hrithik Roshan’s Kaho Na Pyaar Hai which completely stole the limelight. Since his very first appearance on the silver screen, there was absolutely no stopping this young powerhouse of talent!
2. Always a risk taker
While Hrithik may have made his debut in a romantic story, it was his ability as a risk taker which really put him on the map. Not many could do a movie like Koi Mil Gaya fresh into their career and turn into a success like Duggu did. In fact, every movie he acted in (a thief in Dhoom 2, a soldier in Lakshya and a visually impaired man in Kaabil,) proved, Hrithik cannot be typecast into any particular role. Perhaps this is why when it comes to being compared to the Khans, Hrithik is on a throne of his own.
3. Going through a brain surgery, knee surgery and a separation
Perhaps the first blow Hrithik faced at the start of his career was when a doctor told him he just didn’t have the genes and the physical capacity in him to become an actor. However, once he overcame that mental blockade, his knee gave way while he was shooting for Jodhaa Akbar. A major surgery and lots of exercise later, the actor was just about getting back on his feet when another major event rocked his life. His father was shot and seeing his father lying helplessly on a hospital bed changed the way Hrithik thought about life. With a series of hits punctuated with more than one major event in his life, Hrithik Roshan’s life is quite an inspiring tale. Shortly after recovering from the shock of his father’s accident, the actor had to undergo a brain surgery for the removal of a sudden clot. Even though he recovered successfully from the operation, the final blow of sorts came with the separation from his wife, which left Hrithik feeling like the world wasn’t going to work. However, he realised he had to keep working to get better and things like this shouldn’t bring him down.
4. The first superhero in Bollywood
Being a superhero in life is clearly not enough for this young hero. For a world which accepts and craves the presence of extremely intense Hollywood superheros, it was a challenge to get the audience to accept an Indian one. However, when Hrithik played the role of Krrish, no one could stop raving about his performance. In fact, not only did he connect with the younger audience, he also took over the older generation by storm!
With a host of awards, chock a block full of talent and dancing skills which could make you swoon, Hrithik Roshan is truly an unstoppable force of nature. Here’s wishing our very own Greek God an extremely happy birthday and long life ahead!
First Look Posters Which Hit The Mark
First look posters are important and sticking to that, there have been certain Bollywood movies which nailed it with their extremely impressive first look posters. From Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga to Gully Boy, here are some truly impressive first looks!

4. All about the Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga poster
While it’s already exciting to watch Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor share screen space for the first time, the plot in itself is quite intriguing. What makes things all the more enticing is that since the very first poster, not a lot of information about the film could be garnered till the trailer and the first song were dropped. Check out the poster here to take a look for yourself!

5. Anupam Kher from The Accidental Prime Minister
Based on a memoir about the life of former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, The Accidental Prime Minister created a lot of furor since the moment the film was announced. With all the controversies surrounding this particular film, the uncanny resemblance between Anupam Kher and Manmohan Singh in the first look poster makes the film all the more exciting. While the first look poster itself was impressive, the movie promises to be quite a gripping one!
