Rajkummar Rao: A Chat With This Talented Actor

I don’t know this ‘hero’ term, says Rajkummar Rao!

The Gurgaon based actor has mastered the art of acting with his bold and brilliant performances. Initially, Rao struggled with a lot of rejections, until Dibakar Banerjee chose him to play the role of a store supervisor in #LoveSexAurDhoka.

That movie was a game changer for Rao!

Eight years down the road, look at our Rao boy! He has delivered amazing performances in various Bollywood films including Shahid, Trapped, Newton, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and others.

Recently, the launch event of Rao’s upcoming horror cum comedy flick Stree, was held at Mumbai. Stree features Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee. The film is directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K.

At the event, Rao actor expressed his opinions with regard to his hero personality!

Rao feels he is no hero and would love to be referred to as an actor. He said I don’t know how a hero feels, honestly. I feel like an actor, I wanted to be an actor. I always want to feel just like an actor. If someone comes to me with a script and says ‘sir this hero…’ I’m like ‘is there a name or he is just called a hero?’ We are not heroes. Heroes are people fighting for us at the border. We are not heroes we are just doing our job.

The film is set in a small town of Chanderi near Bhopal! The story revolves around a female ghost who targets young men. The two minute 50 seconds trailer begins with Rao asking Pankaj Tripathi about Stree.

Not revealing much about the plot of Stree, Rao said now character driven stories are there. Content is getting its due respect. Our audience wants to see characters on screen and wants to see actors play new roles, adapt different body language. We (Nidimoru and DK) experienced it in our hometown in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. We were studying there. But then we heard it was happening in Bangalore, North India and even in Thailand. It was something people picked up. It’s an urban legend, but who started it, who can prove it, that’s the fun of the film.

Stree is slated to release on August 31.

Apart from this flick, Rao will be seen in Anil Kapoor’s upcoming musical drama Fanney Khan.

The Country’s original dance king, Mithun Chakraborty, is celebrating his 67th birthday today.  As the Nation takes time to wish him on his special day, here we bring you 5 of his movies that we think everyone should watch.

1) Dance Dance

As we said earlier, Chakraborty was the dance king of the ’80s.  Inspired by Italo disco style of that generation, Dance Dance is a musical directed by Babbar Subhash.  Bappi Lahiri’s music and Mithun Chakraborty’s impeccable dance moves made this film one of the most iconic films of his career.

2) Mrigayaa

Based on a short story, Mrigayaa is a 1976 film directed by Mrinal Sen.  The story revolves around a British ambassador, a hunter and an archer.  Chakraborty’s impeccable portrayal of the Indian tribal archer won him his first National Award that year.  This film is a must watch.

3) Disco Dancer

Disco Dancer is the film which made Mithun Chakraborthy an international star.  This classic dance film features Mithun in a rags to riches story. Mithun Chakraborty’s convincing portrayal of the character, the songs of the film and most importantly, his mesmerizing dance appealed to audiences across the globe.   How can anyone forget songs like I Am A Disco Dancer?  A true Mithun fan can never resist watching this film.

4) Gunda

The 1998 film Gunda, directed by Kanti Shah, saw Mithun essaying the role of Shankar, an extremely innocent man who takes revenge on a group of gangsters who killed his family. The honesty in his portrayal of this role received widespread appreciation and critical acclaim.  This film remains to be a cult classic in India because of its bold dialogues and storyline.

5) Tahader Katha

Tahader Katha is the film which won Mithun Chakraborty his second National Award.  The actor was seen playing the role of an Indian freedom fighter. From his physique and body language to his accent, Mithun Chakraborty changed everything about himself to get into the skin of the character.  We must say this is one of his most intense performances till date. Tahader Katha is a must watch.

Though considered a blatant actor, Mithun Chakraborty was among the finest performers of his time.  Today, he personifies the best of the ’80s Bollywood.

Here is wishing this dance king a very happy birthday.

After dropping a truly angry first song from the Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Article 15, the makers just dropped Naina Yeh, the second track from the movie. Quite unlike the first song, Naina Yeh is all about experiencing your emotions and opening up to the person you truly love.

Naina Yeh is composed by Piyush Shankar and sung by Yasser Desai and Aakansha Sharma. What makes this song stand out is, one can connect with the emotions of this song because of the lyrics. The actors maintained themselves in a manner which is restricted, leaving the interpretations largely to the listener. Check out the song here to know what we mean!

The first song released from this movie was an angry rap song called Shuru Karein Yeh. Depicting all the things which are wrong with the world, the first song gave one an idea of what to expect from the movie. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Article 15 is perhaps one of the most awaited movies this month.

Apart from seeing Ayushmann Khurrana in a brand new light, the story of this film is also quite an intriguing one, with inspiration drawn from a horrific gang rape case. To make things all the more exciting, this movie sees Ayushmann Khurana play the role of a cop for the first time in his career!

Apart from Ayushmann Khurrana, this movie also stars Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, M. Nasser, Ashish Verma, Sushil Pandey, Subrajyoti Bharat, Ronjini Chakraborty and Zeeshan Ayub in the lead roles. Article 15 is scheduled to hit the screens on the 21st of June, so block your calendars now!

On the 14th of June, the Oshiwara Police cleared Nana Patekar of the sexual harassment charges filed against him by co star Tanushree Dutta in the year 2008. The Taxi No. 9211 actor was cleared by the police because of lack of substantial evidence against him.

Tanushree Dutta had filed her complaint against the actor for the first time in the year 2008. However, Patekar always denied all the allegations against him. Things took an ugly turn between the two during the #MeToo movement in 2018, post which, Dutta filed a new case against her 68 year old co star.

In the First Information Report (FIR) registered at the Oshiwara Police Station last October, Dutta claimed, the song for the film Horn “OK” Pleassss was originally supposed to feature only her, but Patekar got himself included into it after speaking to producer Samee Siddiqui, director Rakesh Sarang and choreographer Ganesh Acharya. She alleged, on March 26th 2008, Patekar touched her inappropriately on the pretext of teaching her dance steps.

While filing her FIR, the 35 year old Dutta alleged, Patekar demanded intimate dance steps be added to the song of which they were both a part. According to Dutta, Patekar wanted this song to be added even though she wasn’t comfortable with the steps and the way the song was being shot.

Dutta further said Patekar threatened her when she refused to accept the new changes in the song. While filing her report, the actress said, at least two people were privy to this exchange and were even ready to talk to the police to justify the claims. However, the case against Patekar closed because the Mumbai Police could not find any evidence to take the case forward. With no other option, the Police had to shut the case.

While attempting to prove his innocence, Patekar said, he did not know how to dance and even the few steps he had—he took close to 25 to 30 takes to get them right. Patekar further said, Dutta and he practised their dance steps at a distance from each other and at no point during the shooting of the song were they were together. Neither the producer nor the director and choreographer were able to back Tanushree Dutta’s claims regarding this matter.

The police also found, a complaint given by Tapankumar Dutta, Tanushree’s father, to the Goregaon police station, contained no mention of alleged sexual harassment by Patekar. “Her father’s complaint mentions that Dutta did not like a scene in the film and asked Acharya to change it.
