Deepika Padukone, known for several things, from the way she carries herself, to the way she acts. However, while the actress is currently making her presence felt at the red carpet in Cannes, here’s looking at some things we definitely do not know about this dusky beauty. Check out these facts here!
1. The story behind her debut
While everyone knows Deepika Padukone made her debut in Om Shanti Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2007, not a lot of people know she was supposed to make it in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. Om Shanti Om turned out to be Deepika’s ticket to fame, after all!
2. Her first bad film
Did you know Deepika’s first bad film was Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal? Both the critics and the audience alike didn’t like her performance. At all. Oops.
3. Her actual first break
Deepika’s first big break in Bollywood was not in the field of acting. It was as a backup singer! How cool is that?
4. Her secret relationship
Before she came into the film industry Deepika was in a relationship with miss and slip actor, Nihar Pandya whom she left under very dramatic circumstances when she got involved with Ranbir Kapoor. In fact, Pandya was to star in a film based on his relationship with Deepika. Luckily that idea remained unfulfilled.
5. Never been paired before
DId you know Deepika Padukone has never been paired with Salman Khan? Quite a surprising thing, isn’t it?
If you think we missed out on any Deepika Padukone facts, please feel free to comment and let us know!
Shah Rukh Khan Steps Back From Don Franchise
Shah Rukh Khan stepped into the shoes of Amitabh Bachan for a remake of his 1978 hit film Don. The 2006 version of Don featured B-town’s King Of Romance in an action role and managed to garner the love and appreciation of audiences all across the Country. The success of this film prompted the makers to make a sequel in 2011 and it was no wonder Don 2 was a huge hit as well.
Now after years, Shah Rukh Khan revealed, he no longer wants to be a part of this action franchise. With Shah Rukh Khan showing no interest in another sequel, this franchise may come to an end altogether.
Reports suggest producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar are not keen on making a sequel with any other actor. This is a huge blow for the fans of SRK and the Don franchise.
A report quoted a close friend of Farhan Akhtar saying, “I don’t see any inclination in Farhan to direct a film at this point of his life. Right now he’s busy prepping for the role of his lifetime as a boxer in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan. That will keep him busy this year and most of 2020. Before that, he has just completed another acting role in Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink. Where do you see direction fitting into his schedule?”
With this, it is sure the Don franchise is going to have a silent death.
For the past six months, Shah Rukh has been lacking interest to sign films. The superstar, who was last seen in Aanand L. Rai’s Zero, says he is not keen on going back to work. Instead, he wants to spend as much time as possible with his family and kids.
The actor has been associated with many upcoming projects by the media, but he has not signed any of those films as of yet and does not intend to do so for a while.
Speaking to Filmfare about the same, Shah Rukh Khan said, “I have no film with me right now. I am not working on any film. Usually what happens is when your one film is coming to an end, you begin work on your next film and I get involved within 3-4 months. But this time I am just not feeling like…My heart doesn’t allow me to..I just felt that I should rather take time out, watch films, listen to stories and read more books. Even my kids are in their college stage…my daughter is going to college and my son is about to finish his studies. So I just want to spend more time with my family.”
Fans who have been waiting for SRK’s silver screen appearance may have to wait a little longer.
Arjun Patiala Trailer Out Now
The trailer of Arjun Patiala, starring Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh and Varun Sharma, released today and by the looks of things, this one is a laughter riot all the way through!
From the very beginning, the leads were promoting the film through funny tit bits and videos, keeping everyone guessing about what to expect from their movie. Watch the trailer now and see what we mean!
Arjun is here to take you on a fun ride to Patiala!!!#ArjunPatialaTrailer out now!

The trailer opens with a voice over of the iconic radio jockey, Ameen Sayani, introducing the movie. Juxtaposed with scenes from Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s Simmba, Ameen’s voice over introduces Arjun Patiala as the 145th cop film in Bollywood!
Honest to the very minute, the trailer introduces Diljit Dosanjh’s character (Arjun Patiala) as a cute cop, Kriti Sanon (Ritu Randhawa) as the supremely dramatic heroine and Varun Sharma (Onida Singh) as the hero’s cop friend. Just like Arjun, Onida also has a hilarious story to his name and through the trailer, one gets glimpses of how his childhood was.
With Ritu being a crime reporter and Arjun and Onida playing the roles of small time cops, the trailer is action packed and filled with at least half a dozen bad guys. Talking about the film, Kriti Sanon said , “I feel it’s a completely different kind of a comedy. It’s a slightly spoofy kind of a comedy. I don’t think that kind of a take on comedy has been done before.”
Directed by Rohit Jugraj, and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Dinesh Vijan under their T-Series and Maddock banners, this movie is touted to be a goofy cop comedy. Arjun Patiala is scheduled to hit the screens on the 26th of July, so stay tuned!
Bollywood Movies Which Left A Strong Impact On The World
From making films which show people falling in love and dancing around trees to making movies with a strong impact on society, Bollywood has come a long way. While people initially watched movies solely for the sake of entertainment, people watch it today for the kind of impression they leave and how much they make you think. To make your Wednesday better, here is a list of movies which make you think:
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Dor tells the story of how widowed women lead their lives in North India. The movie shows how the female lead embarks on a journey to save her husband, who accidentally kills a man. The film shows how women aren’t just strong and determined, but they can also be extremely forgiving. Apart from this, the movie also shows the amount of power people have if they just forgive and let go. Dor makes you sit and think long after the credits stop rolling.
2. Taare Zameen Par
Till Taare Zameen Par was made, people refused to take disorders like dyslexia seriously. Director Aamir Khan made it a point to show the way students with disorders like reading abilities were treated. Without blowing the situation out of proportion, the film showed how, with just a little bit of attention from parents and teachers, students with reading disabilities can actually flourish in normal schools! Moving everyone to tears long after it hit the screens, Taare Zameen Par narrated a story which needed to be told.
3. Jagte Raho
This movie had an intense story to tell and was directed by two people, Sombhu Mitra and Amit Maitra. Telling the story of a peasant who comes to the city in search of bigger dreams and aspirations, Jagte Raho makes you truly understand the pains of the downtrodden. Following the journey of the peasant who is mistaken for a thief, Jagte Raho makes you want to wake up and realise just because a person doesn’t have enough to his name, it doesn’t mean he is a thief. A wake up call to the extremely evident struggles of class and barriers in society, Jagte Raho makes you want to sit up and listen.
4. No Smoking
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, No Smoking is a neo psychological thriller which shows the true side effects of smoking. What makes this movie stand out is, it doesn’t talk about why people should quit smoking, but instead talks about the long term damage smoking has on a person. From looking at the way smoking affects the person’s mental health, to looking at the way people who smoke deal with living in fear, this movie is an eye opener. With subtle references, Anurag Kashyap’s No Smoking makes you pause the next time you even think of holding a cigarette.
5. Matrubhoomi: A Nation Without Women
Directed by Manish Jha, Matroobhoomi tells quite a scary story. The film talks about how the male to female ratio decreases because of an increase in female foeticide. A modern day rendition of Draupadi’s plight in the Mahabharata, Matrubhoomi talks about how society looks at things with a skewed view. Showing how people are okay with brutality and crude behaviour, this movie makes you want to go and hug every lonely girl child on the road.
Movies like this make you realise there is a lot going on in the world of which you aren’t aware. If you think we missed out on other movies like these, comment and let us know.
Mental Hai Kya Trailer Release Delayed
The Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut starrer Mental Hai Kya has been mired in controversy for a while now. Apparently, the title of the film did not go well with the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) and mental health experts of the Country who filed a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) for the change of the same.
The trailer of this upcoming film was slated to be released today, but because of the PIL filed by the IPS, the launch of the film’s trailer will be delayed by a day or two. In the filed PIL, IPS claimed, the title of the film is “stigmatising, degrading and inhuman in projecting mental disorders and persons who suffer from mental disorders.” The IPS demanded for an immediate change in the title.
With regard to this, the producer of the film, Ekta Kapoor, issued a statement on Twitter, stating, the film is sensitive towards mental issues and the title of the film does not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments.
DISCLAIMER 😀 film in no way marginalises d mental health community & d title of our film doesn’t intend 2 disregard any1 sentiments. It is sensitive towards d issue of mental illness. A fictional thriller dat encourages you 2 celebrate Ur uniqueness & embrace Ur individuality. https://t.co/DdCpXHraf7
— Ekta Kapoor (@ektaravikapoor) June 18, 2019
Ekta Kapoor is going to attend the meeting, which is going to take place among the members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the IPS. A special screening of the film will be arranged, where the officials will review the trailer and title of the film.
All clarifications about the film will be given after the meeting.
Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, Mental Hai Kya is a dark comedy which celebrates the beauty in imperfections.
Mental Hai Kya will hit screens on 26th July, 2019.
Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas Release Date Announced
Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, a Sunny Deol directorial, has a new release date. Marking the debut of Sunny Deol’s son, Karan Deol, the movie is going to release on 20th September this year.
This movie also marks the entrance of a new face, Sahher Bambba. While Karan is all set to play the male lead in the film, Sahher is going to play the female lead.
— Sunny Deol (@iamsunnydeol) June 18, 2019
Initially scheduled to release on 19th July, Sunny Deol postponed the release of the film because of his political commitments. The film will now not have a solo release date and will clash with Sonam Kapoor’s The Zoya Factor.
A source working on the film said in a statement, “Ever since his victory in Gurdaspur last month, Sunny has been busy taking stock of the situation and planning various measures that need to be implemented in the city. Knowing the important role that a debut vehicle plays in an actor’s career all too well, Sunny doesn’t want to give divided attention to Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. So, he thought it best to push the love story by two months.”
A romantic movie shot extensively in Manali and Mumbai, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas will be presented by Dharmendra and is produced by Zee Studios.
