Sanjay Dutt and Maanayata’s love story has always been very intriguing because there are so many theories, (which the two kept trying to disprove,) you don’t know which one to believe. From being a model to the owner of more than just one Rolls Royce, Manyata Dutt has come a long way! After two failed marriages and several broken hearts, Maanyata’s and Sanjay’s love can only be told by the two. However, to figure out how they met and got married, we bring to you one of the most surprising love stories!
1. The First Time They Met
Dutt met Maanyata for the first time when he was dating Nadia Durrani, a 20 something junior artist. What made this relationship so controversial was not only the stark age difference but also the fact that Durrani was mother to a 9 year old child. Interestingly, when the two met back then, Maanyata was known as Dilnawaz Shaikh.
2. The Way To The Heart Was Through The Stomach
While Nadia enjoyed the luxuries that came with being Dutt’s girlriend, Maanayata was more interested in cooking for this star. You know the age old, that the way to a man’s heart goes through his stomach? It worked so well for Maanyata when it came to Sanjay Dutt! With all the food and the love, it was Maanayata who ruled over Sanju’s heart at the end. This friendship became so intense after a point, Nadia left the relationship and the credit card!
3. Through The Years
After two years of playing the perfect host and the ever beautiful wife, Sanjay Dutt and Manyata Dutt tied the knot. A doting mother to Dutt’s children from his previous marriage, Maanyata has made sure she plays the perfect wife, mother and significant other half!
The two faced a lot of friction from their loved, near and dear ones. In fact, when they got married, Dutt’s sisters refused to attend the wedding and boycotted the entire event altogether.
Alia Bhatt’s Best Performances To Date
When Alia Bhatt made her first faux pass on the show Koffee With Karan, many thought this particular star kid wouldn’t last for a long time. However, the then one movie old actress learnt to not only laugh at herself, but made sure people started taking notice of her because of her movies, not because of her blunders on national television. Here is taking a look at some of the truly brilliant performances given by this extremely talented actress!
1. Student of the Year
To talk about Alia Bhatt’s best performances and not have Student of the Year on the list is quite a bold dismissal. Making her debut as the rich brat, Shanaya, Alia made sure she more than made her presence felt. With a confidence not many possess in their first movie, Alia certainly proved she was a great actress in the making with Student of the Year!
While Highway maybe a couple of years after Student of the Year, this movie proved how much Alia could achieve if she had a great director showing her the ropes. Transforming from a ditsy newbie to a strong individual, Highway was quite definitely her ticket to fame in the world of Bollywood. From the moment this particular movie hit the screens, everyone knew they had a brand new star in their midst and why not? Playing the role of a girl who sympathises with her kidnapper and shows the world just how strong she is on her own, Alia blew the roof with her brilliant acting. Not bad for a mark maker at all!
3. 2 States
When it comes to doing a movie like 2 States, it is hard to picture someone like Alia Bhatt fitting into the lead role. A girl from Chennai, without any over the top glamour, falling for a boy from Punjab. Who would have thought Alia could have done justice to the role? In fact, many would have thought a character reversal was definitely in the works for this particular movie. However, just like with her other movies, Alia proved otherwise. Playing the role of Ananya, a girl who in every way wants to do what she believes is right, Alia made a lasting impression and won over even the coldest of hearts. Furthermore, she proved with 2 States that she was never going to be pigeonholed into playing only a certain role!
4. Udta Punjab
When Udta Punjab started doing the media rounds, it took people a certain amount of time to come to terms with the fact that the main lead was played by Alia. Completely letting go off her glamorous look, Alia Bhatt dug deep into the Punjabi girl she was playing and boy, did she work her character well! Fierce like never before and paying attention to every detail, Alia Bhatt more than proved her salt as an actress who was here to stay. From playing the victim, to pushing everything away and owning her confidence, Alia rose to show the world she was going to rule the Bollywood roost.
5. Dear Zindagi
Unlike the above mentioned films, Dear Zindagi saw a different side of Alia. Playing the role of a confused and vulnerable daughter, Alia showed everyone that in order to know who you are, you have to start accepting everything about yourself. Playing a part glamorous and a part simple character, Alia was quite a treat to watch in this particular movie.
Another movie which brought out the finesse in Alia’s acting skills was Raazi. From the way she proved herself in a new house, to protecting her home from a life threatening war and to coming to terms with the fact that even her life was dispensable, Alia’s role in this movie was commendable. Despite everyone else doing a really great job with their characters, it was Alia who stood tall and strong in this movie.
As the actress turned a year older a couple of days ago, it is fitting to say that not only has she grown in age, she has also grown as an actress. Someone once said, for an actress like Alia to blossom, she needs a good director guiding her forward. If these movies are anything to go by, then that fact is certainly true! What is your favourite Alia Bhatt movie? Comment and let us know!
Photograph – Reasons To Watch
Photograph, a Ritesh Batra directorial starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sanya Malhotra, is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. Before it does, here is taking a look at why you should absolutely watch this beautiful love story!
1. The story
What happens when people from different backgrounds are drawn together in weird circumstances? When you watch the trailer of Photograph, you are given a brief insight into what to expect from the film. Rafi (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui,) is a photographer who takes pictures outside the Gateway of India, where he meets Miloni (played by Sanya Malhotra.) A picture draws the two of them into a conversation and from there on, you are drawn into the beautiful dynamic shared by the two. Clearly, there is more to the movie than what is shown in the trailer. If not for another reason, finding out what the entire story is should be reason enough to watch the movie tomorrow!
2. The cast
To say that Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a brilliant actor would be an understatement. Despite being a new entrant, he quickly rose to prove he was not to be taken lightly. Every movie or show of which he has been a part, from Gangs of Wasseypur, to Sacred Games and to Manto, he gives the audience a certain kind of thrill. When you watch someone as truly talented as him perform, you know you are in for a treat. Sanya Malhotra, in her own light, is quite a gem. Despite being a newbie to the world of acting and Bollywood, she is still making her own mark. With a host of really successful movies to her name, Dangal and Badhaai Ho, Sanya Malhotra has definitely proved she is an actress for whom one should keep an eye out! Talk about a double bonanza!
3. Ritesh Batra
Known for making amazing movies like The Lunchbox, starring Nimrat Kaur and Irrfan Khan, Ritesh Batra has quickly made it to the list of the most critically acclaimed directors in India. With an eye for detail and a talent for bringing out the best in everyone, Ritesh Batra has made sure he works his charm even with Photograph. In The Lunchbox, Batra showed every minute aspect of the film without overdoing the drama and being extremely subtle about the situation. This is why, even with Photograph, one can expect a truly well done film.
With every aspect being thought of and laid out in a very endearing manner, Photograph promises to be an extremely intense watch. Let us know what your views about the film are in the comments below!
Bollywood Movies About Women By Women
While International Women’s Day may have come and gone, it is still important to look at the efforts made, by people in the world of Bollywood, to recognise women power. Be it women centric movies or female directors, there is a slow and definite shift in the kind of movies coming out of the industry! From English Vinglish, to Parched and to Lipstick Under My Burkha, here is looking at movies which not only have a strong female character, but are made by female directors as well!
1. English Vinglish
Directed by Gauri Shinde, English Vinglish is a true coming of age movie. Telling the story of a housewife who doesn’t know English and is forced to live life in a certain way, this Gauri Shinde directorial hits home the right way. Despite being faced with a family who doesn’t appreciate her shortcomings, English Vinglish shows how if you really want to do something on your own, nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams.
2. Luck By Chance
With cinema and direction running deep in her veins, Zoya Akhtar gave the world a terrific movie in the form of Luck By Chance! With Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma making their presence felt in a really strong way, this movie explored all the major things which went wrong in the world of Bollywood. Not only did Zoya Akhtar tell a really great story, she also ensured that her direction was so on point, she didn’t need to tell her cast what to do more than once!
Not only did Anushka Sharma prove herself as an actress to watch out for in NH10, she also proved she could write a killer script. Telling the story of a woman hunting for her husband’s murderer, Anushka Sharma proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that she is perhaps one of the finest actresses in the world ! How many times have you watched a movie like this and marvelled at the lead for the rendition of the script and the movie? Not many, right?
4. Nil Battey Sannata
Another fine example of a truly great movie, Nil Battey Sannata is about women empowerment all the way through. Telling the story of a mother who wants to ensure her daughter gets educated, this movie pulls at your heartstrings without overdoing the emotions. Showing how the lead pushes her daughter to study, even if it means the mother herself joining school again, Nil Battey Sannata tells a story which definitely needed to be told. Directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, one can truly see the amount of effort which went into bringing to life such a great film!
Another example of what happens when women put their blood and soul into a movie, Parched is truly brilliant in every way possible. Directed by Leena Yadav, the movie talks about how four women try to live life on their own terms and shows, no matter what their surroundings, nothing and no one can stop them from achieving their dreams. While we may sound a tad bit biased toward this movie, you’ll understand the true intent of why once you watch the movie! Thank us after!
6. Lipstick Under My Burkha
When Lipstick Under My Burkha first started making news, it received attention for all the wrong reasons. From being labelled as a “B Grade” movie, to being criticised for the rendition of the script, this Alankrita Shrivastava directorial kept hitting the headlines. If there is any movie which could have portrayed a woman’s desire to live life on her own terms, it is Lipstick Under My Burkha. Despite having a series of cuts and edits, the movie still managed to make the intended impact!
Movies like these have to be made in order to tell a story which can be truly understood from the point of view of women. If you think we missed out on any other movies like these, comment and let us know!
Junglee Trailer Released
Junglee, the much hyped movie starring Vidyut Jammwal, finally has a trailer to its name. Worth every bit of the wait, the just dropped trailer seems to be a crossover between Tarzan and Mowgli. Just like how Tarzan is friends with all the animals in the forest, Junglee shows how Raj, played by Vidyut, has an elephant called Bhola as a best friend!
Through the 2 and a half odd minutes of the trailer, one sees how despite growing up, both Bhola and Raj still remain the best of friends. While Bhola grows up to become an extremely magnificent tusker, Raj is now a famous veterinarian. However, unlike the comfortable years of their childhood, Raj realises trouble is strongly brewing at the edge of his beloved forest. Watch the trailer here and now!
It’s a tale…
Of true blue friendship
With loads of adventure & action
With tonnes of courage & faith
— Vidyut Jammwal (@VidyutJammwal) March 6, 2019
With Raj playing the playboy, veterinarian and protector all at once, Bhola and his two love interests, played by Asha Bhat and Pooja Sawant, can’t stop fawning over their man. A picturesque transition between village life and jungle life, the trailer is quite a sight for sore eyes. Despite almost telling the entire story within a couple of minutes, this sneak peak into Junglee still leaves a lot of open ended questions.
Does Raj end up saving his jungle? Do the poachers back off and leave Bhola safe in his paradise? All these questions can only be answered once the movie hits the screens! Directed by Chuck Russell, the film also stars Atul Kulkarni and Makarand Deshpande in key roles. Co produced by Vineet Jain and Preeti Shahani, Junglee is all set to make its grand silver screen appearance on the 5th of April, this year!
Forgotten Scandals From Bollywood’s Past
Drama, murder, mystery and forgotten love stories. Bollywood has had more than its fair share of things which went wrong and which have been forgotten. While the amazing movies which come out of the industry have made it easy to forget the other side of this world, nostalgia sometimes rears its ugly head. On a dreary Tuesday like today, here’s taking a look at some of the famous, old and forgotten scandals from Bollywood!
1. The spat of the Khans
The Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan spat is still one of the most widely talked about wars in the Bollywood world. For the uninitiated, the two Khans almost came to blows at Katrina Kaif’s birthday bash. So bad was their fight, Aamir Khan had to quite literally pry them off each other to avoid things becoming more serious. However, the situation was far from calming down and a year later, although SRK apologised to Salman Khan on Koffee With Karan, the fight just didn’t seem to end.
While SRK thought he was going to diffuse the situation with his apology, Salman Khan thought otherwise. Talking to the press with his own version of what happened, Salman Khan made a statement by saying, “He (SRK) did that on the show so that I’m hounded by this question throughout the year. I’ll not accept such drama. If he really was sorry and wanted to apologise, he could’ve called me or dropped by at my place. Expressing regret on a chat show makes no difference to me or anyone.” Talk about communication going wrong and everything going haywire! Oops.
2. Bipasha Basu and Amar Singh
Bipasha Basu, Bollywood’s babe and one of the most famous actresses, was caught having raunchy conversations on the phone with Amar Singh. While denying these allegations seemed like the obvious path to take in this scenario, a recording of the conversation made it hard to erase the conversation. Both Amar Singh and Bipasha Basu have been trying extremely hard to hide the tape, but it is only a matter of time before the tape makes the headlines.
3. Parveen Babi’s life
Parveen Babi, one of the greatest actresses of the golden era of Bollywood, was famous for redefining the way women were perceived in the field of cinema. However, despite being bold and beautiful in every way possible, Parveen Babi was remembered for Mahesh Bhatt’s depiction of her, rather than for who she really was. Moreover, the fact that she was diagnosed with schizophrenia was also something which was held against her time and time again.
The fact her health was failing was not an unknown fact, what triggered her psychotic episodes is still not known. With speculations being rife about the reasons behind Babi’s bad relationships with people like Kabir Bedi and Mahesh Bhatt, the actress slowly started fading into the background. Rumoured to have inherited the disorder from her father, Parveen Babi kept struggling to find happiness throughout her life. Her loneliness, coupled with the constant fear that someone was trying to get at her, was constantly pushing Babi to want an out from the film industry. However, being as famous as she was, the only road to exit for Babi seemed death. Which is why, when she died alone in her apartment, there wasn’t much for people to think of but that she committed suicide. It took an entire troop of policemen to break down the door to her house and what they found on the other side, showed that when it comes to being lonely, the only thing that can help is when you come to terms with who you are.
4. Who is Sonakshi Sinha’s mother?
Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter, Sonakshi Sinha, has been in the limelight for some very weird reasons. The strangest one being the identity of her birth mother. While the medical reports say Sonakshi’s mother was Poonam Sinha (Shatrughan’s wife at the point,) people say otherwise. With Sonakshi bearing such striking resemblance to Reena Roy, Shatrughan’s ex girlfriend, the rumour mill started saying Poonam wasn’t really her mother! Although Sonakshi refuted these claims multiple times, the uncanny resemblance and the timing just seems extremely close to the facts!
5. Aamir Khan’s secret child
Aamir Khan, the actor known for his acting and family values, was part of quite a torrid affair. According to the rumour mill, this particular Khan is said to have a secret child with Bollywood writer, Jessica Hanes. Apparently, the two met each other on the sets of Vikram Bhatt’s Ghulam and got very “cosy” during the shoot. Shortly after the film wrapped up and the movie released, Jessica Hanes came forward, stating she had a child with none other than Aamir Khan!
Although Aamir Khan denied every report of the child being his, Jessica has gone on record time and time again, saying the child is definitely his. The writer also said, when her son grows up, she is going to tell him his father didn’t want him. Oops. Not the right kind of scandal to be caught between, right?
6. Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha
Perhaps one of the most scandalous things to happen in the world of Bollywood in the last few decades, the Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan affair is quite talked about even today. When the two worked together on Silsila, their chemistry was so on point, rumours of the two having an affair started doing the rounds.
What fueled the whole incident was the fact that despite sharing such a strong onscreen bond, the two never worked together again. Post a few months, one would have thought the whole affair would have literally died down. However, when Rekha started sporting a red sindoor on her forehead everytime she went out, things started heating up. The rumour mill can’t stop talking about how Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan got married secretly, with Jaya Bachchan not knowing what’s going on. Definitely a movie worthy story in the making!
With scandals and controversies being what Bollywood is famous for, it definitely comes as no surprise there are so many which have happened in the past! If you think we missed out on any more scandals like these, don’t forget to comment and let us know!
