One hundred years of beauty. One hundred years of grace. One hundred years of artistry, emotions and beauty, the Bollywood industry is like no other. Especially in terms of the women that made this industry what it is today. With more than a little bit of nostalgia riding on this particular piece, here are ten beautiful women through the years!
1. Meena Kumari
From a bubbly child to a teenage diva, Meena Kumari embraced melancholy like it was her middle name. This is perhaps why her performances in movies like Sahib Biwi Aur Gulaam and Pakeezah are remembered even today. Barely months away from turning 40, Meena Kumari passed away. Her legacy, however, breathes strong and beautiful even after a long period of time.
Often referred to as the first female superstar of Bollywood, Vyjayanthimala left a great legacy behind. In what was a very surprising move at that time, she refused Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in Devdas, claiming that her role was parallel to that of Suchitra Sen’s Parvati. Throughout her career, she redefined herself with changing times and even wore a swimsuit in Rak Kapoor’s Sangam.
3. Jaya Bachchan
Jaya Bachchan has always stood apart from the norm with her disarming persona and alluring innocence. All the roles portrayed by Jaya Bachchan perfectly describe her as a person, making her style one of the most coveted styles to date.
Unconventionally strong and purposefully unique, Rekha stood out from the very beginning. A breathtaking mix of beauty and glamour, Rekha was a beauty who became only pronounced over time.
While she left a huge hole in a lot of hearts with her young passing, Madhubala’s captivating smile and spell binding beauty was myth worthy. Beauty described as an adjective is often not one attributed to a human. However, it can be perfectly used to describe Madhubala!
Breaking the shackles of cliched beauty norms set during her time, Kajol set a new ground with not only her style but also with her unibrow! Representing everything Bollywood looked down on at the time, Kajol created a breathtaking niche for herself by being her. A true beauty in every possible way.
7. Waheeda Rehman
Waheeda Rehman was perhaps one of the few actresses who set the ball rolling for stellar performances. The elegance with which she performed in her movies is only a testament to this fact.
8. Smita Patil
She was one of those stunning beauties who gave even Shabhana Azmi a run for her money. Her song, Aaj Rapat Jaye from Namak Halal is still loved by everyone. Unfortunately, her untimely death left everyone with a miserablly sour taste in their mouth.
Easily one of the finest actresses of her time, Nutan was known for her controversial roles. She was always brave enough to pick the movies no one would, thereby ensuring her continued fame and success!
Nargis started off her career as a child actress and through the years, she went on to become a force to be reckoned with. The highlight of her career was the Oscar nomination of the movie, Mr. India. Even though she stopped acting during the peak of her career, she had given enough performances by then to become one of the most noteworthy actresses of her time.
Biopics To Look Forward This Year
If there’s anything Bollywood taught us, it is, if you thought your imagination was quite great, then think again. Biopics as a genre are changing the way people look at those who became great personalities in life and through the years, movies like Sanju and Gold were some of the really well made movies. As the year 2019 progresses, here’s taking a look at some of the most interesting biopics to look forward to this year:
1. Super 30
Returning to the silver screen after a gap of nearly two years, Hrithik Roshan is all set to make a comeback with a biopic based on the life of Anand Kumar, a professor who gave underprivileged students the hope to dream. This Bahl directorial is all set to his the screens on 26th January, 2019.
Late Gulshan Kumar, now known for founding the game changer of the Bollywood industry, T Series, had a very unglamorous childhood. A man who revolutionised the way Indian music industry functioned in the 1980s, Gulshan Kumar led quite a thrilling life. Mogul, with Akshay Kumar playing the role of Gulshan Kumar, maps this man’s journey from the other side of tracks to being one of the most successful people in the country, to being shot outside a temple in Mumbai in the year 1997. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on Christmas this year!
After the release of all the controversies surrounding the life of Bal Thackeray in the book titled An Ordinary Life: A Memoire, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to play the role of Bal Thackeray in this film based on his life! Tracing the life of Thackeray’s journey from being a cartoonist, to being a politician who changed the face of the political scene in Maharashtra, Thackeray is going to be an eye opener. Initially scheduled to hit the screens in December last year, the film is now expected to hit the screens on Thackeray’s birthday this year!
4. Jhalki, Ek Aur Bachpan
Based on the life of Kailash Satyarthi, a man who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, Jhalki Ek Aur Bachpan will bring to life the story of a girl who is on the hunt of her brother. While Boman Irani plays Kailash in this film, the film also maps the journey of how he saves over 83,000 children, including more than 144 girls! Jhalki, Ek Aur Bachpan is scheduled to hit the screens this year!
With so many biopics releasing this year, picking just one biopic is going to be hard. What movie are you waiting for the most? Comment and let us know!
Irrfan Khan’s Birthday – Looking At The Actor’s Best Performances
Irrfan Khan, an actor who always steps out of his comfort zone to deliver his best performances time and time again, turns 52 years old today. As the actor turns a year older, here’s celebrating the man’s birthday by taking a look at some of his best performances, a feat which put him on the list of the best actors in Bollywood.
1. The Lunchbox
Playing the role of a retired man who falls in love with a woman in a loveless marriage, Irrfan Khan’s performance in this particular movie was simple, beautiful and just right. With old fashioned romance acting as the theme of this particular film, the story of The Lunchbox showed how two polar opposites fall in love in the strangest way possible and had an open ending left to the interpretation of the audience. Irrfan Khan received a standing ovation for his acting in The Lunchbox at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival!
2. Life In A Metro
Not known for his presence in commercial movies, Irrfan Khan broke the mold of roles he portrayed, through his role in Life In A Metro. Playing the role of Monty, a man who lived life in the moment, Irrfan Khan stuck true to his character and pulled off this role with finesse and ease. Not only was his performance one of the best ones in this particular movie, it also won him the Filmfare Award for being the Best Supporting Actor!
3. Life Of Pi
Although Ayush Patel (the younger Pi in Life of Pi,) played a serious role to perfection, it was Irrfan Khan’s role as the older Pi which stood out. Even though Irrfan Khan had only a 10 to 15 minutes long presence in this movie, he acted so well, there were talks about him being nominated for the Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
4. Yeh Saali Zindagi
Perhaps one of the biggest selling points Irrfan Khan has as an actor is to play most of his roles with a hint of sarcasm and seriousness at the same time, which hasn’t been matched by other people yet. This fact is more than proven by his performance in Yeh Saali Zindagi, especially in the way he has conversations with Saurabh Shukla. Yeh Saali ZIndagi is perhaps one of Irrfan Khan’s best performances to date and sets him apart in a way like never before.
Sticking to the theme of the Aarushi Talwar controversy and death case, this particular film was an Irrfan Khan movie through and through. By portraying the role of a cop trying really hard to stick to the letter of the law, Irrfan Khan’s performance was raw, real and to the point.
Here’s wishing Irrfan Khan an extremely happy birthday! What’s your favourite Irrfan Khan movie? Comment and let us know!

1. Alia Bhatt
When Alia Bhatt made her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of The Year, little did we know the Indian cinema was going to get a new face and a brand new actress with talent to the boot. While this young starlet coming into her own with movies like Highway, Dear Zindagi and 2 States, 2018 saw Alia bloom into a bright new flower with Raazi! Without too much drama and the right amount of attention to detail to the character, everything about Alia’s performance in Raazi was extremely captivating! Definitely one of the finest performances by this lady to date!
2. Deepika Padukone
While Padmaavat was an amazingly well made movie, Deepika Padukone’s acting was brilliant. Playing the role of Rani Padmavati, a queen who goes above and beyond to protect her husband’s and her honour, Deepika Padukone was all grace and perfection. Not many can do justice to a role filled with such intensity and still make a mark on their own. Definitely worth the wait, Deepika Padukone’s acting in this movie was praised for months after the film released.
3. Taapsee Pannu
The year 2018 was Taapsee Pannu’s year. From Mulk to Manmarziyaan, every movie this particular actress was a part of did really, really well! From playing a Hindu lawyer fighting for a Muslim in Mulk, to playing a girl who is coming into her own and finding herself through love in Manmarziyaan, every movie Taapsee was in, showed how amazing an actress she is!

Although the men in Badhaai Ho had the most lines, Neena Gupta played her character to perfection. While she still played the demure housewife struggling with the idea of having a baby at an old age, Neena Gupta played every role so well, her acting was a treat to watch!
5. Anushka Sharma
Last but not the least, Anushka Sharma surprised everyone by moving away from the normal roles she has played so far. Playing the role of a victim of abuse in an otherwise mediocre movie which was Pari, Anushka Sharma stood strong purely through her acting skills. Definitely one of Anushka’s finer performances to date!

Bollywood Siblings And Age Gap Between Them
Bollywood siblings have always given us major goals through the years. Be it Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar or Sara Ali Khan and Taimur Ali Khan, these siblings have always been true delights. Here’s our list of siblings who are so far apart in age, it’s a surprising fact, to say the least!
1. Sara Ali Khan and Taimur Ali Khan
A list like this is not complete without the mention of the famous Khan siblings. Sara Ali Khan is now 23, whereas the youngest member of the Pataudi khandan, Taimur Ali Khan, is but a baby. While Sara is Saif’s daughter from his first marriage, Taimur is Saif’s son from his marriage to Kareena Kapoor! Despite the huge age difference, the love between the two is adorable!
2. Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar
While Shahid Kapoor was the older brother who loved the limelight for a long time, it wasn’t till recently that Ishaan Khattar got propelled into the stardom front. With an age gap of 15 years, the brothers have a truly enviable bond. To make this duo all the more adorable, Ishaan is as brilliant a dancer as his older brother, Shahid! How cute is that?
3. Arjun Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor
Age is just a number, they say and with Arjun Kapoor and Janhvi Kapoor, this certainly seems to be the case. With an age gap of 11 years, this brother sister duo is perhaps one of the most adorable brother sister duo in the industry. Forever the doting and protective older brother, Arjun Kapoor always goes the extra step to protect his sisters from the naysayers and the haters. In fact, he even made a public statement recently, where he called out all the trollers and protected his sister from being abused on the internet. If that isn’t sibling goals, what is?
4. Maliaka Arora and Amrita Arora
Gorgeous, self confident and almost similar in more ways than one, the Arora siblings certainly know how to make heads turn. Although the two look really similar to each other age wise (and otherwise,) did you know the two have a gap of 8 long years between them?
5. Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor
They belong to the founding family of Bollywood, they have adorable nicknames and they are often seen wearing the exact same outfits. Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan are the ultimate siblings. The two have an age gap of 6 year, but really, does the age gap show?
6. Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan
With a massive age gap of about 16 years, Aryan Khan and AbRam Khan are the cutest brothers Bollywood has seen in recent times. While the older one is ready to follow King Khan into the spotlight, the younger one just cannot leave his father alone, following him everywhere like an adoring fan. Cute or what?
Siblings are your best friends for life and whether or not there is an age gap between them, the love is what counts. If you think we missed out on any other siblings with age gaps like these, comment and let us know!
