Bollywood Beauties Through The Years: Top Ten

One hundred years of beauty. One hundred years of grace. One hundred years of artistry, emotions and beauty, the Bollywood industry is like no other. Especially in terms of the women that made this industry what it is today. With more than a little bit of nostalgia riding on this particular piece, here are ten beautiful women through the years!

1. Meena Kumari

From a bubbly child to a teenage diva, Meena Kumari embraced melancholy like it was her middle name. This is perhaps why her performances in movies like Sahib Biwi Aur Gulaam and Pakeezah are remembered even today. Barely months away from turning 40, Meena Kumari passed away. Her legacy, however, breathes strong and beautiful even after a long period of time.

2. Vyjayanthimala

Often referred to as the first female superstar of Bollywood, Vyjayanthimala left a great legacy behind. In what was a very surprising move at that time, she refused Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in Devdas, claiming that her role was parallel to that of Suchitra Sen’s Parvati. Throughout her career, she redefined herself with changing times and even wore a swimsuit in Rak Kapoor’s Sangam.

3. Jaya Bachchan

Jaya Bachchan has always stood apart from the norm with her disarming persona and alluring innocence. All the roles portrayed by Jaya Bachchan perfectly describe her as a person, making her style one of the most coveted styles to date.

4. Rekha

Unconventionally strong and purposefully unique, Rekha stood out from the very beginning. A breathtaking mix of beauty and glamour, Rekha was a beauty who became only pronounced over time.

5. Madhubala

While she left a huge hole in a lot of hearts with her young passing, Madhubala’s captivating smile and spell binding beauty was myth worthy. Beauty described as an adjective is often not one attributed to a human. However, it can be perfectly used to describe Madhubala!

6. Kajol

Breaking the shackles of cliched beauty norms set during her time, Kajol set a new ground with not only her style but also with her unibrow! Representing everything Bollywood looked down on at the time, Kajol created a breathtaking niche for herself by being her. A true beauty in every possible way.

7. Waheeda Rehman

Waheeda Rehman was perhaps one of the few actresses who set the ball rolling for stellar performances. The elegance with which she performed in her movies is only a testament to this fact.

8. Smita Patil

She was one of those stunning beauties who gave even Shabhana Azmi a run for her money. Her song, Aaj Rapat Jaye from Namak Halal is still loved by everyone. Unfortunately, her untimely death left everyone with a miserablly sour taste in their mouth.

9. Nutan

Easily one of the finest actresses of her time, Nutan was known for her controversial roles. She was always brave enough to pick the movies no one would, thereby ensuring her continued fame and success!

10. Nargis

Nargis started off her career as a child actress and through the years, she went on to become a force to be reckoned with. The highlight of her career was the Oscar nomination of the movie, Mr. India. Even though she stopped acting during the peak of her career, she had given enough performances by then to become one of the most noteworthy actresses of her time.

Bollywood Films Which Show Love Has No Gender

Bollywood Films Which Show Love Has No Gender, Bollywood films which showcased love over boundaries, Mango Bollywood, Margarita With A Straw Movie, 5 Bollywood Movies On Relationships, My Brother Nikhil Hindi Movie, Bombay Talkies and Fire Bollywood Movies Stories, Hindi movies on Love Has No Gender

India recently passed a law which said Section 377 is no longer valid and that love no longer has any gender boundaries. Simply put, people who fall in love with those belonging to the same sex are no longer liable to prosecution and can do what their heart desires. While this in itself is a commendable move, it is only fit that we take a look at Bollywood films which showcased love over boundaries long before this act was abolished. Check out these films here!

1. Margarita With A Straw

Margarita With A Straw, directed by Shonali Bose and starring Kalki Koechlin, broke not one but two stereotypes. The film not only explored love between Kalki and her partner, it also showed how it was possible to love despite being diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Bose addressed this issue with subtlety, giving everyone goals like never before.

2. Aligarh

Aligarh, directed by Hansal Mehta and starring Rajkummar Rao and Manoj Bajpai, addresses the story of how a professor gets suspended from college because of his gender preferences. A representation of the struggles people in the country go through for doing the unexpected, Aligarh is a film that people need to watch to understand the life of the repressed.

3. My Brother Nikhil

My Brother Nikhil, directed by Onir, explores the sexuality of a man and about how he was affected with AIDS. This film explored both these situations at a time when both homosexuality and AIDS were a huge taboo! My Brother Nikhil brought to the fore the struggles of Nikhil and how only his sister helped him through the most difficult times of his life. A must watch for people to realise what happens when others are pushed into a corner.

4. Fire

Deepa Mehta’s Fire addressed two serious issues at the same time: homosexuality and family discord. Both Shabhana Azmi and Nandita Das are stuck in marriages that are not working and in the middle of this imbalance, love starts blossoming. Trouble starts brewing when they want to be together and society goes against this “unholy” union. A bold take on love beyond boundaries, FIre puts forth the troubles one does not expect.

5. Bombay Talkies

Bombay Talkies, a culmination of several stories by several directors, stands out primarily because of one particular story from the film: Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh by Karan Johar. Showing the story of a married couple (Vidya Balan and Randeep Hooda,) this particular story talks about how despite being a part of the media world, people are still averse to the idea of homosexuality. Some even say this is a take on Karan Johar’s personal life and when you watch it, you realise this could actually be the story of an everyday family man!

With India embracing the issue of homosexuality, it is now time for our directors to tell these stories! If you think we missed out on any films like these, comment and let us know!

Varun Dhawan And His Best Performances So Far

Varun Dhawan And His Best Performances So Far, Top Films Of Varun Dhawan's Career, Which is the best Varun Dhawan movie and why?, Mango Bollywood, Varun Dhawa Best Performances Till Date, Actor Varun Dhawan Movies, Top Iconic Performances by Varun Dhawan, A Lookback At Varun Dhawan's Best Performances

Varun Dhawan, undeniably the most sought after man of the hour, has been a part of the coveted 100 crores club not once, but four times! With not a single box office disaster to his name, the young actor has definitely come a long way from when he made his debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year! With 9 supremely successful films in his kitty, it only makes sense to take a look at some of Varun Dhawan’s best performances in the past!

1. Main Tera Hero

Varun Dhawan’s first ever film with his father, Main Tera Hero was arguably one of Dhawan’s best performances during the growth of his career. Named as the Govinda of the current generation, Main Tera Hero gave Dhawan the title of being a complete riot, with an unabashed touch of innocence,

2. Badlapur

Touted as one of Dhawan’s extremely intense film to date, Badlapur was the film that changed his career trajectory. A story about a man avenging the death of his wife and son, the film failed to make a major splash at the box office, earning less than 100 crores in its lifetime, despite the film being appreciated by the critics.

3. Dilwale

Despite having a strong cast (Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kriti Sanon) in the lead roles, Varun Dhawan managed to make Dilwale his own! With his flawless acting, perfectly timed comic scenes and superfluous dialogue delivery. Dhawan definitely shone bright like a diamond in this Rohit Shetty directorial!

4. Badrinath Ki Dulhania

There is something really adorable about an Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan pairing, which was brought to the fore with Badrinath Ki Dulhania, the sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. What makes this film so loved is that it was the second time Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan were seen together, giving us major Student of the Year feels!

5. October

Varun Dhawan broke free from his chocolate boy image with this Shoojit Sircar directorial. With October, Dhawan established himself as an actor to watch out for and proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is killing it and is here to stay!

From his first ever movie to his latest one, Varun Dhawan has grown exponentially. If you think we missed out on any of Varun Dhawan’s amazing past performances, comment and let us know!

Love Sonia: Five Reasons You HAVE To Watch This Hard Hitting Film

Love Sonia: Five Reasons You HAVE To Watch This Hard Hitting Film,Mango Bollywood,Love Sonia Movie Updates,Love Sonia Movie Latest News,Reasons to watch Love Sonia Movie,Why Love Sonia Is The Most Hard-Hitting,Love Sonia trailer is a hard hitting tale of human trafficking

When you watch a serious issue displayed boldly on the silver screen, do you have it in you to turn your eyes? No, right? That is exactly what happens when you watch the trailer of Love Sonia, the latest Rajkummar Rao offering, showing us the dark side of the world through the eyes of human traffickers. Here are five reasons you just have to watch this heart wrenching film when it hits the screens tomorrow.

1. Hollywood and Bollywood collide

Directed by Tabrez Noorani, Love Sonia brings together two drastically different worlds together for a unique film. From Demi Moore to Richa Chaddha to Rajkummar Rao, this film boasts of having some truly brilliant stars to its name! Definitely worth the watch, right?

2. Sai Tamhankar gains ten kgs for the roal

Sai Tamhankar, a critically acclaimed Maharashtrian actress, put in a lot of effort in order to prep for her role in Love Sonia. To make her part seem all the more credible as a prostitute turned pimp, Tamhankar put on a solid ten kgs to seem convincing! If no other reason, this dedication is a major reason to watch the film!

3. The no holes barred script

After Udta Punjab showed us the dark side of Punjab and the under belly of the drug world, Love Sonia brings to the fore the struggles of a family perpetually stuck in the throes of poverty. Ever single member of the cast does justice to their role, playing their part to perfection. The script is so raw, so true that it hits in all the places you need to pay attention.

4. Girls rescued during the shoot

If the above reasons were not enough for you to go watch the film, then this one definitely should make you run to the theaters. During the making of Love Sonia, director Tabrez Noorani used to conduct random raids at suspected brothels in an attempt to rescue girls kept there in captivation. He would pose as a set unit man, conducting his research at brothels and then tip off the police. Through his effort, more than a dozen girls were rescued!

5. Mrunal Thakur went into depression post shoot

There are some roles which take a long time to get over and there are others which just stay with you for the rest of your life. Mrunal Thakur, making her debut in Bollywood with such an intense story, went into severe depression for the longest time. The fact that she chose such a strongly emotional film to make her debut is commendable, to say the least.

Films like Love Sonia do not come by often and when they do, you definitely cannot miss the movie. Right from when you watch the trailer, you realise there is a Sonia in every girl wandering the streets and if that does not make you want go and help the little girl, then maybe, just maybe the film itself will. Do not forget to tell us what you think of this movie when you watch it in the theaters tomorrow!
