Celebrated singer, Daler Mehendi, has been arrested for being part of a human trafficking case which was registered against him in the year 2003.
Daler Mehendi and brother Shamsher Singh had been accused of illegally transporting two groups of people in the years 1998 and 1999.
On a trip to the United States in the company of Karisma Kapoor and her mother Babita, Daler had allegedly “dropped off” three girls at San Francisco. The girls had been identified as Priya, Meenu Behn and Nimu, all from Gujarat.
The second troupe was taken in the presence of Raveena Tandon, Javed Jaffri and Juhi Chawla, when three boys were left behind “illegally.” Soon after the Patiala police registered a case against Daler and Shamsher, on a complaint filed by one Bakshish Singh; 35 more complaints came up levelling charges of fraud against the brothers.
The complainants had alleged that the brothers had taken “passage money’ from them to help them migrate to the US ‘illegally’, but had failed to follow up on the offer. In 2006, the Patiala police filed two discharge petitions, acquiting the brothers.
However, the court had upheld that Daler Mehndi be prosecuted as there was `sufficient evidence against him on the judicial file and scope for further investigation.’ The Court finally passed judgement on the matter Today and minutes after being sentenced for a two year term, Daler was released on bail priced at Rs. 10,000.
Pihu Review And First Day Box Office Expectations
Director: Vinod Kapri
Cast: Myra Vishwakarma
The story of Pihu is based on the life of a two year old girl (Pihu,) trapped alone in a house and what happens when there are no adults around. The entire film centers around this little girl and shows us how the 2 year old survives on her own for the entire day without being connected to the rest of the world. With montages of a birthday party (Pihu’s birthday,) a cake and people chatting, the opening scene quickly dissolves into a serious one.
Pihu wakes up in the morning next to her mother, who is dead. With no father around and no adult in the house, the film immediately shifts to a scary story. With Pihu playing the lead, one gets a glimpse of what to expect from the movie. Navigating through the house, one sees how everything is unkempt, how every ordinary gadget is now a safety hazard.Kapri takes you through the different parts of the house, showing the disarray and the severe state of dysfunction of not just the house, but the family as well.
Right from the very first scene of the movie, one can see the movie is going to be fraught with tension and uncertainty. Everything in the house is a threat to this two year old girl and unfortunately, she has absolutely no access to the world outside. As a director, Kapri sets the scene right from the opening credits, with dialogues from the movie running over caricatures and childlike drawings.
A couple of years ago, Kapri’s first directorial, Trapped, showed the struggles of an adult trapped all by himself in a house for 24 hours. Pihu seems to follow a similar story line, without the drama and over the top action scenes. Using a two year old to bring to life a parent’s worst nightmare, Kapri brings to the fore everything parents do not want happening.
Although the movie is said to be based on a true incident, the film seems very similar to Kapri’s first directorial. Drawing parallels from the theme of Trapped. the underlying message talks about what happens when you are left alone for longer than you thought you should be left alone. While the attempt at making a film like this was commendable, Pihu would have worked better as a short film rather than a full fledged movie.
Kapri’s thriller has everything you could want from a perfect thriller. However, it lacks the special touch required to make it a truly brilliant movie. Myra Vishwakarma does a brilliant job as the two year old Pihu, with the camera work adding the right kind of effects. Watch the movie to find out what happens when a child is alone and helpless.
Watch These Movies With Your Children Today!
While a lot of Bollywood films are considered children friendly, there are not a lot made specifically for children. On a day like today, that celebrates children and the inner child in you, it is but fair to take a look at some truly beautiful movies made about and for children.
1. Stanley Ka Dabba
Amole Gupte debuted as a director with this amazing children centered film and boy, did he make a splash! Bringing together a beautiful story of school and lunch boxes, Stanley Ka Dabba was exactly the kind of movie needed to be made for people to revisit their childhood in all its glory. However, despite all the happy memories, the film has a subtle message to it and one really has to pay attention to the movie to understand the underlying point.
2. Raju Chacha
An Anil Devgn directorial, Raju Chacha had Ajay Devgn and Kajol playing the lead roles. Narrating the story of three kids who are trapped by a villain trying to steal their property after the death of their father, this movie was a keeper for the ages. A perfect medley of nostalgia, drama, suspense and thrill, Raju Chacha was a treat for sore eyes.
3. King Uncle
Directed by Rakesh Roshan, this movie talks about what happens when you let your guard down. Revolving around the story of a strict and controlling man (played by Jackie Shroff,) King Uncle shows how all one needs is a child to let go off all the things holding you back. A coming of age story, this Rakesh Roshan movie still gives one major family goals even though you have watched it multiple times.
4. Mr. India
Directed by Shekhar Kapur, Mr. India is perhaps extremely relevant even now. With clearly thought out villains, ghosts and superheroes, Mr. India was the perfect combination of fun, laughter, drama, tragedy and sadness. While all the characters played their parts brilliantly, the film would not be the success it was had it not been for the beautiful story line. If you are feeling particularly nostalgic about your childhood, watch the movie today!
5. Chachi 420
Directed by Kamal Haasan, Chachi 420 was an adaptation of the Hollywood super hit, Mrs. Doubtfire. Based on the story of a father going above and beyond to make things right with his daughter, Chachi 420 was one of the most heartwarming films made about the relationship between a father and his daughter. You know what to watch to take you down memory lane today!
6. Koi Mil Gaya
Another Rakesh Roshan directorial, Koi Mil Gaya was all about how you can excel if you have a protective hand making sure you are okay. Loosely drawing inspiration from Hollywood movies like ET, Koi Mil Gaya showed the beauty of acceptance and how one grows through adversities. Definitely a must watch film on a day like today!
7. Taare Zameen Par
Another film about accepting children despite their shortcomings and pitfalls, Taare Zameen Par was about accepting your child with both the negatives and the positives. This movie was Aamir Khan’s debut as a director and not many can bring to life a story like this with just the right amount of emotions and intensity. With a wonderful message at the end, Taare Zameen Par needed to be made and told with a loud and clear message. As parents, you should do all you can in your power to help your child grow, even if the child has problems you do not understand.
Here’s wishing all of you a very happy Children’s Day and if you have other movies you would like us to watch today, comment and let us know!
Wishing Juhi Chawla A Very Happy Birthday Through Her Songs
Juhi Chawla, the original Bubbly Girl of Bollywood, turns a year older and wiser and is now, more beautiful than she ever was. As the lady who made her grand Bollywood debut opposite none other than Aamir Khan, the Chocolate Boy of the country at that point, not many thought she would last long. However, through the years, the actress has time and time again proved she is not just a pretty face, but a true force of nature. Here’s celebrating the beautiful lady’s roles through the years by listening to some of her really famous songs.
1. Aye Mere Hamsfar from Qayamat Se Quayamat Tak (1988)
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was to the ’80s what Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was to the ’90s. Defining love and giving major goals to the people in their teens, this movie brought Juhi Chawla’s innocence to the screen in all its glory. A musical hit in every way possible, Aye Mere Humsafar was perhaps the most iconic song Juhi Chawla performed in, making a statement so strong, she made the Bollywood world sit up and take notice. Listen to the song here.
2. Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se Dilbar Ka from Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993)
Another Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla classic, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke was one of those iconic Bollywood movies that is now forever etched in the sands of time. What makes this film so much more memorable was because of Juhi Chawla’s brilliant performance. Not only that, the song Ghoonghat Ki Aad Se Dilbar Ka also had one of the best dance moves Chawla made during that period of her career. If you still have not listened to this masterpiece of a song even after all these years, you are definitely missing out.
3. Likha Hai Ye from Darr
Darr had everything coming together for a perfectly entertaining package. With tantalizing music, a script that kept one hooked to the very end and a cast that was spellbinding, to say the least, Chawla’s Darr was just sheer brilliance. To top it all, the fact it was a Yash Chopra film was just the perfect cherry on top of an already delicious cake. Further, the lyrics of this particular song are so captivating, one just can’t help but fall in love with the song. For those not in the know, here’s the song!
4. Ishq Hua from Ishq
That Aamir Khan’s and Juhi Chawla’s chemistry is amazing is an undeniable fact. To prove just this, their film Ishq was just the much needed balm on a hot day. Remember the magic created by these two brilliant actors in all their previous films? It was brought back to life in Ishq. What’s more, Ishq Hua was the track clinching everything together in a beautiful bundle.
For a long time, people loved watching Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla on the big screen together. However, through the years, the actress grew to make room for another Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) next to her. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani could be described as one of the best movies Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla worked on together. In fact, the title song of this film is so famous, people groove to its beats even after all these years! You know you have to listen to it here.
Kedarnath Trailer Shows Love In All Its True Colours
After what seems like a really long wait, the trailer of Abhishek Kapoor’s highly anticipated Kedarnath just dropped and by the looks of things, the film promises to be truly beautiful. With Sushant Singh Rajput as the male lead, this Abhishek Kapoor directorial introduces a brand new female lead in the form of Sara Ali Khan! Set against the rustic and hilly Uttarakhand, the trailer explores the massive destruction in Kedarnath, post the heavy floods of 2013.
Claiming to be an unusual love story, the just dropped trailer explores the unique story between a porter (Mansoor, played by Sushant Singh Rajput) and a rich tourist girl (Mukku, played by Sara Ali Khan.) Mansoor takes tourists on his back to the main temple of Uttarakhand (a 14 km trek.) During one of these journeys up the mountain, Mansoor and Mukku meet and consequently fall in love. However, just like every love story between two lovers from different backgrounds, this love story is also fraught with many difficulties. Watch the trailer here.

I hope you like it. 🙏🏻

— Sushant Singh Rajput (@itsSSR) November 12, 2018
Just like the makers promised, there are other problems the two love birds have to face. Mukku, a Hindu, prays for a massive calamity to hit the hilly town. However, little does she know that what she wished for will really happen. Moments after Mukku prays at the shrine, the trailer shifts to a series of flash floods harming everything and everyone in its wake. What this longer than three minutes trailer doesn’t show is whether or not Mukku and Mansoor live to see the light at the end of the storm.
It is interesting to note here that this trailer is perhaps one of the first of its kind to not give the listeners even a slight glimpse into the songs of the movie. Earlier scheduled to hit the screens on the 30th of November, Kedarnath is going to hit the screens on the 7th of December, 2018.
Arjun Kapoor Shuts Down Negativity On Social Media
Even as Twitter bans trolls, there are people on other platforms who always find ways to pick on everything famous people do and say. We, as a loyal fan base, have always coveted the lives of these celebrities and are also the first to judge their lives when they do what is not ordinary.
A couple of days ago, when Janhvi Kapoor was made fun of, the ever vocal Arjun Kapoor made a bold statement to this effect, “Not for a moment does the man typing on a keyboard, who has no face, think how he would feel if the same thing was said about his sister, mother, daughter or girlfriend. They look at celebrities as people who are not affected by what anyone says. Sitting within the confines of his room, he thinks that he has a right to an opinion. The opinion that he holds is just a reaction to his own frustration. We are in a profession where everyone has an opinion about our body and our physical appearances. They throw it out there in public and laugh about it. We also need to stop ourselves from giving importance to such comments. In fact, comments by trolls should not be paid heed to by the media even if it means that the piece of news will lead to more hits or clicks online. Trolls thrive on the fact that their comments create news. One way is to not react to it but sometimes, it becomes important to stand up and react. The best way to deal with it is to ensure that the trolls and their comments don’t get amplified. No woman or man deserves amplification of hate comments from social media.” This is perhaps one of the best ways a celebrity can really defend those who have been wronged, right?
When Esha Gupta was called the S word for her post on Instagram, she shut the haters down with a long and sentimental statement about why it is okay for her online presence to be the way it is. Every star has reacted to the comments with swift and precise ferocity, much like an army does when attacked from all sides. The internet is not a bed for spreading venom and hateful messages. It is for standing up for what is right and making a point to the same effect. Speak up, let your voices be heard and let the trollers and haters know you do not care anymore.
It is but an important point to note that when Shah Rukh Khan and Twinkle Khanna were trolled, they refused to stay quiet about it. They fought back and how! Both of them were vicious in their own rights and used their words for good, rather than going back and hiding in a shell. It isn’t just these famous celebrities who are fighting back. I would reply to u but I don’t know if u r appropriately and fashionably dressed for my reply… https://t.co/r33eNR3fbs
— Shah Rukh Khan (@iamsrk) June 6, 2018
Celebrities including Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Abhishek Bachchan also shut down their haters in one swift blow, making sure they gave back the invisible writers a dose of what they needed in life. If ever you are in a position where there’s too much being said about you, do not cover under the shadows of the harsh words, but fight back and let your voice be heard.
