The era between the 1950’s and the 1980’s can perhaps be described as the Golden Era of Bollywood. Despite being made in the black and white medium these movies have become timeless. With their unique scripts, brilliant background scores and stellar acting by the casts, these movies have earned their place in the Bollywood Hall of Fame. Here is the list of the top ten Bollywood classics!

1. Pyaasa

The post independence era in India was quite a strange time. This Guru Dutt movie talks about the lead’s (Vijay) search of love and acceptance. Pyaasa as a movie derives all the elements from mainstream cinema and still manages to set itself above the others.

2. Mughal E Azam

While the story of the Emperor Akbar has been told and retold, there are very few movies which talk about his son, King Salim. Mughal E Azam explores Salim’s love for his Anarkali and is a classic for the ages. This movie took over ten years to finish and is a true testament to the golden ages of Bollywood.

3. Sholay

It took a movie like Sholay to break the brilliant record set by Mughal E Azam fifteen years later. This classic Amitabh Bachchan movie set the pace for all movies that came after. In the words of director Shekhar Kapoor, Indian cinema can be divided into Sholay BC and Sholay AD.

4. Golmaal

Starring Utpal Dutt, Amol Palekar, Dina Pathak, Deven Varma and Bindiya Goswami, Golmaal not only made for a gripping screenplay but boasted of some remarkable performances. This movie set the pace going for not one, but four sequels!

5. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

At a time when the audience craved light hearted comedy and family drama as a means of distraction, this dark comedy became a cult in more ways than one. Starring a fine ensemble of actors, this movie struck all the right chords and stays in our hearts even after all this time.

6. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak

The eighties was quite a wasted era in Bollywood. With a lot of loose words and horrendously directed movies doing the rounds, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak came as a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. A modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak starred relative newcomers Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, who became idols overnight. Not only did this movie give us some brilliant content, it also gave us two very fine actors.

7. Pakeezah

There are some love stories which need to be told time and time again to really get the message across. Pakeezah was one such movie. Starring Meena Kumari, Raj Kumar and Ashok Kumar in key roles, this movie took 15 years to complete and failed to see success for a long time after its release. This was one movie which stood the test of time and came out shining brightly at the end of a dark tunnel.

8. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, also known as DDLJ, set the path for all future love stories. Though a different genre as compared to Sholay, it definitely challenged the film’s popularity even after fifteen years.

9. Aandhi

What better movie to watch on the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s political career than Aandhi? In fact. despite its massive popularity, this movie was banned six months after it hit the silver screens! Sushmita Sen pulled off the role of Indira Gandhi with mind blowing ease, giving this movie the much deserved credit.

10. Mother India

It is hard to have a list like this and not mention Mother India. This movie was the first Bollywood film to make it to the Oscars and even now, no film has been able to match its brilliance. In fact, it has been hailed as the Gone With The Wind of Indian cinema!

Gold Teaser Is Out. Watch It Here!

Gold Teaser Is Out Watch It Here,Mango Bollywood,Latest Bollywood News,Bollywood Upcoming Movie News,Gold Movie Teaser,Gold Movie News,Akshay Kumar Gold Teaser,Teaser of Akshay Kumar Gold will be out,#GoldTeaser

Gold, the much talked about Akshay Kumar starrer, is doing the rounds for all the right reasons. With the posters keeping the intrigue going, the just dropped teaser for this film is hitting exactly the right spots.

The teaser starts off with a voice over asking everyone to stand up for the National Anthem. While one would naturally assume the line was directed towards the Indian National Anthem, God Save The Queen, the British Anthem, starts playing with the Union Jack fluttering in the background. Watch the teaser here.

The teaser further goes on to ask the people in the video one important question: how did you feel when the British National Anthem played instead of the Indian National Anthem? A dramatic pause follows, after which a grim faced Akshay Kumar unruffles a crumpled Indian flag. “One man’s dream,” the teaser continues, “Made the British stand up for our anthem.” There is a resounding cry of Vande Mataram, the logo of the film appears and the teaser ends.

Directed by Reema Kergi, Gold is set against the backdrop of the historic gold medal won by India in the 1948 Olympics. For a long time, people thought the film was a biopic. However, producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the opposite. “We have set it in real events so people (often) confuse it with a biopic. It talks about the era in which we achieved Independence and what happened with sports, (primarily) hockey at that time. It is not about a particular character and Akshay is not even playing (hockey in the film). He plays the manager,” he said in a statement. The release date of Gold is yet to be revealed.

Race 3 Review And First Day Box Office Predictions

Race 3 Review And First Day Box Office Predictions,Race 3 movie Review,Race 3 hindi movie Review,Race 3 movie rating,Salman Khan Race 3 movie Review, Race 3 1st Day Box Office Predictions,Race 3 film collections,Race 3 movie collection Prediction,Race 3 movie public talk,Salman Khan Race 3 movie excepted collection, Mango Bollywood

Director: Remo D’Souza
Cast: Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Saquib Saleem, Jacqueline Fernandez and Daisy Shah
Stars: 3 out of 5

Race 3, the highly anticipated Salman Khan Eid release, finally hit the screens today and by the looks of things, there are a lot of mixed reactions to the film. The film begins with a build up of sorts to Salman Khan’s character (Sikander.)

Anil Kapoor plays the head of the Singh family, who is being threatened and needs someone to make the problem go away as soon as possible. Enter Sikander: the family’s bodyguard and saviour. However, while the plot seems to be leaning in Sikander’s favour, he is nowhere to be found!

Sikander’s entry into the scene is very similar to his entrance in the trailer. When he knows his employees are in danger, he barges into the mix wielding guns and blazing eyes. While Salman Khan’s entry is exactly what one expects, what sets the ball rolling is Bobby Deol’s spectacular presence, after an absence of almost half a decade in the field of cinemas.

Every character in this high energy film is given a large amount of screen time. The first 30 minutes of Race 3 is dedicated to establishing the individual characters. After giving us a view of the family dynamics of the individual characters of the Singh family, the love story of Jacqueline Fernandez’s (Jessica) character and Salman Khan’s character unfolds.

The two met on an eventful day in Beijing a couple of years ago, with Sikander sporting a French beard to show the passage of time from then to the current day in the film. The couple’s love story unfolds over a heavy duty song titled I Found Love. While one would think this is the be all and the end all for the two love birds, Jessica goes missing and Sikander returns home to forget about love and focuses on work.

One would have thought a Race franchise would bring us entertainment, action and cars. However, unlike the first two parts of the film, this film falls rather flat. With almost no comic relief and terrible acting, the film just lacks to hit the right spots. The only saving grace seems to be Bobby Deol (Yash) who brings his years of experience and acting finesse to the story. Watch Race 3 if you have nothing else to do this weekend!
