Top Ten Bollywood Movies Of The Past

Top Ten Bollywood Movies Of The Past,Mango Bollywood,Latest Bollywood News,New Hindi Movie News,Top 10 Bollywood Movies Of The Past,10 Best Hindi Movies,Top Ten Hindi Movies Of The Past,Best Bollywood Movies Of The Past

The era between the 1950’s and the 1980’s can perhaps be described as the Golden Era of Bollywood. Despite being made in the black and white medium these movies have become timeless. With their unique scripts, brilliant background scores and stellar acting by the casts, these movies have earned their place in the Bollywood Hall of Fame. Here is the list of the top ten Bollywood classics!

1. Pyaasa

The post independence era in India was quite a strange time. This Guru Dutt movie talks about the lead’s (Vijay) search of love and acceptance. Pyaasa as a movie derives all the elements from mainstream cinema and still manages to set itself above the others.

2. Mughal E Azam

While the story of the Emperor Akbar has been told and retold, there are very few movies which talk about his son, King Salim. Mughal E Azam explores Salim’s love for his Anarkali and is a classic for the ages. This movie took over ten years to finish and is a true testament to the golden ages of Bollywood.

3. Sholay

It took a movie like Sholay to break the brilliant record set by Mughal E Azam fifteen years later. This classic Amitabh Bachchan movie set the pace for all movies that came after. In the words of director Shekhar Kapoor, Indian cinema can be divided into Sholay BC and Sholay AD.

4. Golmaal

Starring Utpal Dutt, Amol Palekar, Dina Pathak, Deven Varma and Bindiya Goswami, Golmaal not only made for a gripping screenplay but boasted of some remarkable performances. This movie set the pace going for not one, but four sequels!

5. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

At a time when the audience craved light hearted comedy and family drama as a means of distraction, this dark comedy became a cult in more ways than one. Starring a fine ensemble of actors, this movie struck all the right chords and stays in our hearts even after all this time.

6. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak

The eighties was quite a wasted era in Bollywood. With a lot of loose words and horrendously directed movies doing the rounds, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak came as a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. A modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak starred relative newcomers Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, who became idols overnight. Not only did this movie give us some brilliant content, it also gave us two very fine actors.

7. Pakeezah

There are some love stories which need to be told time and time again to really get the message across. Pakeezah was one such movie. Starring Meena Kumari, Raj Kumar and Ashok Kumar in key roles, this movie took 15 years to complete and failed to see success for a long time after its release. This was one movie which stood the test of time and came out shining brightly at the end of a dark tunnel.

8. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, also known as DDLJ, set the path for all future love stories. Though a different genre as compared to Sholay, it definitely challenged the film’s popularity even after fifteen years.

9. Aandhi

What better movie to watch on the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s political career than Aandhi? In fact. despite its massive popularity, this movie was banned six months after it hit the silver screens! Sushmita Sen pulled off the role of Indira Gandhi with mind blowing ease, giving this movie the much deserved credit.

10. Mother India

It is hard to have a list like this and not mention Mother India. This movie was the first Bollywood film to make it to the Oscars and even now, no film has been able to match its brilliance. In fact, it has been hailed as the Gone With The Wind of Indian cinema!

Kangana Ranaut: Happy Birthday Through Five Iconic Roles

Remembering Five Iconic Kangana Ranaut Roles On Her Birthday,Mango Bollywood,Latest Bollywood News Updates,Upcoming Bollywood Movies,5 Iconic Kangana Ranaut Roles On Her Birthday,Happy Birthday Kangana Ranaut, kangana ranaut birthday celebration with her iconic roles Birthday Special,5 characters that the versatile actor Kangana Ranaut made her own

Kangana Ranaut’s movies are always the right blend of strength, emotion and Bollywood drama. We love her no matter what role she plays. On her birthday, however, as she turns a year older and wiser, we take a look at five of her best movies which make her the undisputed Queen of Bollywood Today.

1. Fashion

Known for breaking stereotypes, this Madhur Bhandarkar movie proved beyond doubt that Kangana can play any role she wants. With extreme ease, I might add. Addled with drugs, alcohol and all forms of substance abuse, Kangana won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress when she portrayed the role of a troubled supermodel in this movie.

2. Tanu Weds Manu 2

The role of the brash, loud mouthed Tanu in this movie seemed to be written to describe Kangana’s character. Even though she messed up quite a lot throughout the movie, she won everyone over with her endearing nature and affectionate behaviour.

3. Once Upon A Time Mumbaii

Although her role in this movie was not a big one, Kangana impressed us all by playing the stunning Bollywood actress Rehana who was also the love interest of one of Mumbai’s most powerful and respected underworld criminal, Sultan Mirza.

4. Queen

Queen is perhaps Kangana’s most critically acclaimed movie to date. Playing the role of a small time girl, Rani, Kangana shows us love is not the end of everything nor is it the beginning of a happily ever after. A coming of age movie, Queen proves to us that life is about learning to be alone and then learning to be with another.

5. Life In A Metro

Although this movie consisted of an ensemble cast, Kangana’s roles stood out the most. She plays the role of a secretary who is wronged by her married boss and the way she pulls of her role, one could only watch her performance in silent awe.

Kangana Ranaut has proved to us time and again that just because our life is riddled with controversies, performance needs to take a back seat. We, at mango Bollywood, like to wish her a very Happy Birthday and hope she has all she wants from life!
