With Welcome To New York, South Indian director, Chakri Toleti has proven his worth as a Bollywood director! A tribute to Robert Altman’s Pret a Porter, this movie replaces the Paris Fashion Week for the International Indian Film Academy awards punctured with quirky comedy and inuendoes throughout.

The story revolves around Dilijit Dosanjh and Sonakshi Sinha who played lead roles. Dilijit is a good hearted “goonda” while Sonakshi wants to become the next Manish Malhotra. The setting of this movie revolves around an event which is organised for the benefit of non  Bollywood fans.

It involves transporting major and minor celebrities to foreign locations and walking them down red carpets thronged by homesick members of the Indian diaspora, comic skits and dance performances, topped with awards of no consequence. Throughout the entire movie, one gets a feeling being transported into the grand opulent world of Bollywood.

It is rare to see stars taking digs without any abandon. It is even rarer to see a movie created where the makers do not care about the effect of the movie on the audience. Welcome To New York as a movie has been blessed by the IIFA organisers and one gets a true feeling of all the shallowness involved in the Tinsel Town.

The movie is less roast than shallow, comprising of a handful of genuinely funny laughs and insider jokes with not one but TWO Karan Johars. One of the KJos is so drastically opposite, he wants to kill the director of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Johar, who made a forgettable acting debut in Bombay Velvet (2015,) turns out to be the best thing about a comedy that takes a butter knife to an event ripe for evisceration.

The movie alternates between two worlds and two characters. The star cameos include Salman Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rana Daggubati and Riteish Deshmukh, and there is even a reference, borrowed from Ocean’s Twelve (2004,) of a resemblance between Jinal and Sonakshi Sinha. All in all, the ensemble cast falls in line with the lead roles and gives us a desperately needed laugh riot!

According to trade analysts, this movie is going to earn at least Rs. 10 crores at the box office on its first day. From the comic relief to the real insights into Bollywood world, there is a lot going well for Toleti’s Bollywood directorial debut!

Hichki: Reasons To Watch!

Hichki Reasons To Watch,Reasons to watch Rani Mukerji Hichki, rani mukerji new movie, rani mukerji hichki, hichki release, rani mukerji upcoming movie Hichki,Rani Mukerji to make comeback with Hichki, mango bollywood, latest bollywood news and gossip

What’s life without a few hiccups? The tagline of Rani Mukherjee’s much awaited movie, Hichki, is based on overcoming all of life’s hiccups. After taking a break from the silver screen since the birth of her child, Rani is back with a bang. Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, here are four reasons to watch this Rani Mukherjee starrer!

1. Bollywood dealing with physical impairment

Bollywood has tried to become more than just a platform for drama. With movies like Water, Earth and Margherita With A Straw, our filmmakers are trying to give us meaningful cinema to look forward. Hichki is just one such film which deals with the fact that even though you have a life filled with an impairment as serious and untreatable like Tourettes, you still fight to make the best out of what you have been given.

2. A student teacher relationship

As a country, India has always maintained a gap between the student and the teacher. Teachers are always given an inaccessible position. In Hichki, Rani’s character tries breaking these stereotypes and establishing a new ground. She has tried to show us that the world does not need to be the way it is and if you want to, you can get the change you need.

3. A Yash Raj Films Project

When Yash Raj Films gets associated with a film, one can only expect brilliance. Every film they have been associated with is nothing short of cinematic excellence and going by the early reviews, Hichki promises to be worth the wait!

4. Rani Mukherjee

Considering how Rani has always been invested in the character she portrays and understands the sensibilities of it, her role of a determined teacher looks promising in the Siddharth P Malhotra directorial. Also, looking back at how she has earlier presented the life challenges of those with disabilities in the 2005 film Black, Hichki leaves us excited to see Rani back in action.
