Akshay Kumar Lesser Known And Interesting Facts
Akshay Kumar, the original Khiladi of Bollywood, is or rather was, quite the player! Before he met and fell in love with Twinkle Khanna, the man was a very different person. From being a very adorably notorious child to being one of the most good looking hunks in Bollywood, Akshay Kumar has done and been through a lot in life. Check out these unknown facts about the Khiladi of Bollywood here!
1. The real name
Did you know that Akshay Kumar’s birth name was not really the name he goes by now? When he was born, he was named Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia and only changed his name when he entered the Bollywood industry. In fact, people close to him still call him Raaj and not Akshay! Clearly, a lot lies in a name!
2. Won a Filmfare Award only TWICE
While all the other actors around him won more than one award for the best actor, Akshay Kumar has only won the Filmfare Award for the Best Actor twice in his career. The first time was for his amazing performance as a negative lead in Garam Masala and the second time was for his brilliant performance in Ajnabee!
3. The name Khiladi was NOT an accident
While Akshay Kumar’s competition were called King Khan and Badshah, the name Khiladi did not come to this particular dude by accident. It was only after he worked in eight films (Khiladi. Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, International Khiladi, Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, Khiladi 420 and Khiladi 786) with the name in the title did it stick to him and become his pseudonym of sorts!
4. Stole watches for fun
While a lot of people have pet peeves, not many are open about their trysts with the law. Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, is someone who just does not care. The man has admitted to stealing watching from shopping malls when he was younger just to get the kick out of stealing things and getting away with the crime! Sticky fingers much?
5. Not an Indian citizen
Just when you thought Akshay Kumar’s life could not get more interesting, it did. The Khiladi of Bollywood got himself a Canadian citizenship. However, with the Indian law being the way it is, he could not hold more than one citizenship at a time. Breaking hearts of his Indian fans with one swift blow, he let go off the place where he was born at and now is a full time Citizen of Canada. Ouch.
6. Played the same named character 7 times
While you would think names like Raj and Vijay were associated with characters played by Amitabh Bachchan or Shah Rukh Khan, think again! Did you know Akshay Kumar has played characters with the name Vijay 8 times and the name Raj 7 times on the silver screen? Who would have thought, right?
7. He played the role of a cop 13 times
Although Akshay Kumar has been typecast as the ultimate lover boy on screen, his real talents as an actor lies in the characters he played as a cop! Just like his on screen dad, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar has played this particular character over ten times in films like Kayda Kanoon, Mohra, Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Paandav, Sabse Bada Khiladi, Tu Chor Main Sipahi, Insaaf, Daava, Taraazu, Angaaray, Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahi, Khakee, Police Force: An Inside Story and Aan: Men at Work.
Akshay Kumar is quite the character and more than certainly stands apart from the other contemporaries of Bollywood. If you think we missed out on any facts about Akshay Kumar, comment and let us know!
Kishore Kumar And A Memory That Lives Through Music
Kishore Kumar lef the world on 13th October 1987, marking it as a sad day in the history of Bollywood and music. A day that took away one of the most enigmatic and beautiful singers, 13th October was labelled as the end of an era. When Kishore Kumar passed away, India lost a true gem, making fans all over realise that if music had a name, the name would be Kishore Da. Known for his voice filled with feelings, it is only befitting that one pays tribute to this great man through the melodious music he left behind. As I sit back on this nostalgic Sunday and think of the loss of a singer who touched not only his generation, but several ones after, I would like to leave you with these songs.
1. Yeh Shaam Mastani (Kati Patang, 1971)
Yeah, today’s evening is going to be a beautiful one, but really, remembering the death of this great man is going to put a damper on a beautiful Sunday. If only Kishore Da were still alive, every evening would be a wonderful and memorable one, with new songs and melodies to keep the bad dreams at bay!
2. Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si (Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, 1958)
Hands down one of the most amazing songs by Kishore Kumar, this song has been playing on my mind since the time I woke up this morning! Perhaps the best kind of tribute one can play to Kishore Kumar, either on a rainy day or a sunny day!
3. Dil Kya Kare (Julie, 1975)
Seriously, Dil Kya Kare when you lose someone who has been such an indirect and close part of your life? Nothing more than listen to Kishore Kumar’s music, right? On a side note, every time I break up with a dude (happens more number of times than you can think of,) this song is my go to heart fixer!
4. Maana Janab Ne Pukara Nahin (Paying Guest, 1975)
This song is feels personified. With Kishore Da in his complete element in Maana Janab Ne Pukara Nahin is a Kishore Da song through and through. The song is a perfect description of love that is not entirely two sided and is perhaps the most beautiful ode to being okay with the bad situations as any!
5. Roop Tera Mastana (Aradhana, 1975)
How many times a day have you listened to this song and hummed it over and over? Come on, you know you love this song as much as we do! Do not cat call pretty girls with this song. Bad idea! You’ll land up in prison and that is never good for anyone, right?
6. Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (Blackmail, 1973)
Kishore Da, you may have left the world, but you are always going to be close to our heart. No matter what. Even more so through this song. P.S., if you were ever in the need of a quick fix with the love of your life, this song is the ultimate problem fixer! Trust me, a lot of people I know have used it and it has worked wonders every single time.
7. Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu (Aradhana, 1969)
Putting into words what every man wants, this song is the perfect ode to finding true love and happily ever afters. Interestingly, in recent times, the songs from Dilwale Dulhaniye Le Jayenge are the only ones that comes close to this beauty! However, Kishore Kumar is the true original genius when it comes to romantic music, right?
As the country mourns the death of a man who would have been 80 if fate had not ended his life early, I am going to kick back, relax and play these songs all day with a cup of hot, strong tea! What is your favourite Kishore Kumar song? Comment and let us know!
Nithya Menen’s Praana First Look Poster Is Out
Nithya Menen, the woman of the hour, is gearing up for Praana, her next extremely exciting project, which is being made in multiple languages (Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam) at the same time! This means the gorgeous actress had to do the same scenes in not one, but four different languages.
Trying to capture the audience’s attention for the entire duration of the film is nothing short of a commendable task. However, with Nithya Menen’s track record of excellent performances to date, this is not an unimaginable feat for the brilliant and talented actress! Check out the just dropped first look poster of Praana here and now!
— pcsreeram (@pcsreeram) October 12, 2018
Highly anticipated for several reasons, one of the major plus points for Praana being one of the most awaited movies in recent times is that the film is going to be completely focused on Nithya Menen’s character! While Dulquer Salman is going to play a small role in this movie, the exciting factor is clearly Nithya’s part and how beautifully she executes this challenging role!
Clearly every director’s favourite actress in the South Indian film industry, Nithya Menen is famously dubbed as the girl with no repeat takes! Another first of sorts in India, the makers have used sync surround sound to up the excitement quotient for the film. Praana is going to be directed by V. K. Prakash and filmed by critically acclaimed cinematographer, P. C. Sreeram. The sound for the movie will be given by Oscar award winning sound engineer, Resul Pookutty and the lyrics are going to be given by Louis Banks.
Jointly produced by Anita Raj and Praveen S. Kumar under the banners of Real Studio and S Raj Productions, this particular Nithya Menen project is exciting, to say the least! The release date of the film has not been given yet, so stay tuned for the arrival of one of the most exciting movies in the film world to date!
Cast: Govinda, Varun Sharma, Digangana Suryavanshi, Prabhleen Sandhu, Brijendra Kala, Rajesh Sharma, Sanjay Mishra
Director: Abhishek Dongra
A comic and slightly glorified take on infidelity, FryDay is an out and out Govinda based film. Set almost entirely in one specific location (Delhi,) the movie has some really funny lines, with most of the one liners handled brilliantly by the man for whom they seem to have been written. With perfectly timed comebacks and comic relief written with flawless perfection, FryDay is a tribute to films like Pati, Patni Aur Woh and some other Govinda classics.
Centering around Varun Sharma’s character (a water purifier salesman) and an actor specialising in improvisation (Govinda,) this particular Abhishek Dongra is an out and out laughter riot. Govinda’s character (Gagan) has a wife (Bela, played by Prabhleen Sandhu,) but she just does not seem to satisfy his urges. To satiate the never ending cravings, Gagan takes on a lover (Bindu, played by Digangana Suryavanshi.) The story takes a turn here, with all the characters coming into their own and each of them having individual spin offs to their storylines.
The central crux of the movie revolves around Gagan and Bindu, who are in lustless marriages and are tied together by bonds of never ending societal expectations. Varun Sharma’s character enters the scene, interrupting the highly built up and anticipated coitus scene, but very quickly discovers Gagan is far from being the ideal customer. What follows is a sort of comedy of errors, with different characters coming in and out of the scene.
All the major events in the film take place in one primary location, with multiple characters going in and out as per the script requirements. This particular Abhishek Dongra film scores well in terms of comedy, but has one fatal flaw: is it really okay to cast a humorous spin on infidelity?
FryDay is the perfect balm for a world that has not seen Govinda in action for a very long time. With every character playing their part to perfection, this movie is nothing short of an entertaining story in an industry dominated by serious and slightly over the top movies. Watch it with an open mind and an accepting heart for the acting and the comic relief!

Tumbbad Review And First Day Box Office Expectations
Cast: Sohum Shah, Mohammad Samad, Anita Date, Deepak Damle, Jyoti Malshe
Director: Rahi Anil Barve
Treasure. Love. Betrayal. Revenge. A demon and an ancient story. Bollywood has rarely gone wrong with these themes and with Tumbbad also, success isn’t far off the mark! The story of this particular film revolves around a boy (Vinayak Roy) and how his life changes after being hit with a severe personal tragedy. On the road to finding peace and some sort of salvation, Vinayak meets an old lady who draws him into a life of greed, myths and the hunt of treasure no one has found to date.
At the base of things, Tumbbad is a horror movie with psychological undertones. With a strong theme of fear for the unknown, the film is the perfect depiction of what happens when your imagination runs amok. Furthermore, with slightly overwhelming scenes with just a little too much blood and gore, this story talks about how ordinary men turn into monsters when on the hunt for something they don’t understand.
Tumbbad, a village in Maharashtra, becomes the place where this film is set. Starting off with slightly over the top sequences of gods and goddesses, the film explores the grey shades of the leads as well as the locales in the village. The torrential downpour of rain n the village is synonymous with the wrath of the gods and the continuous dark hues shown is a dedication to the characters.
Tumbbad explores the other side of a world where absolute poverty propels people into doing things they would never think of doing. Hunting down fairy tales and fables from ancient India, this film is moody, to say the least. The depiction of the characterization of the time is perfection. The men are shown living in the Brahmanical way of life, with women living their one true purpose: serving men and making their life easier.
Filled to the brim with a moral, a story of hope, failure and acceptance, Tumbbad is quite possibly the most beautiful fairy tale written for adults. The characters have been really well written, with Vinayak’s love for money and his mother both shown with equal ease. The lady in the corridor is also given prominence, reinforcing the horror story angle, but not really telling the viewers how long the woman has been the way she is.
A bold attempt by a newbie, Tumbbad is not a tale many forget after watching it for just the first time. Greed, desire and the want for material wealth, all combined with the eternal hope and longing for a better life, is what makes this particular film such an endearing watch. Starting with the entrance of the British troops and culminating to an end when they are ready to leave the country, this movie leaves you wanting for more. Feeling like a part of your heart is left behind, Tumbbad is shades of grey, with no black and whites at all. A definite must watch that gives one an insight into ordinary life.
