Looks like our dark horse of  Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan, has bounced back with a bang with Kaalakaandi. While his last couple of movies have had a disastrous performance at the box office, Kaalakaandi can be definitely touted as his come back.

This movie is a dark comedy that revolves around six Mumbaikars who attempt to deal with their lives on a daily basis. Saif Ali Khan’s character undergoes a major flip when he discovers he’s diagnosed with stomach cancer. In some crooked way, Saif ends up taking ‘acid’ one night and the film captures everything from there.

Kaalakaandi has been directed by debutant director Akshat Verma. Even though this movie may have been Akshat’s first directorial debut, it is not his first time in Bollywood. Akshat was the writer behind a similar movie, Delhi Belly. Not surprisingly, Kaalakaandi has Delhi Belly elements seen throughout the movie.

Kaalakaandi also works in the cause and effect relation between Mumbai and its dark and neglected underbelly — the underworld. In between, Saif also decides to take some ‘acid’ (a drug called lysergic acid diethylamide) and have the time of his life. Psychedelic films are anyway an unexplored genre in the Hindi film industry and that in itself makes for an intriguing premise to build a story on for Akshat.\

Saif has seen a lot of disasters in the past and this action packed movie draws a lot of influences from Hollywood. With every scene showing us the sequence of events in a single night, this movie is quite a new experiment for Bollywood. A must watch if you want to get an insight into the world of psychedelic drugs and how one event can change your life for good.
