Fukrey, released in 2013, was a sweeping success, to say the least. The want and need for a sequel was understandable, acceptable even. Four years later, the makers awarded our wait with Fukrey Returns, the sequel. Everything from the trailer to the multiple promotions, Fukrey Returns promised to be a laughter riot.
What it did not promise to be, however, is a slow and boring drag. Starring pretty much entirely the same cast,
Fukrey Returns was a runaway disaster. The story is a tiring one. The jokes are dull and drab. The acting is over the top if I am being nice here.
In the first part, there is a very subtle attempt at creating an original Dilli “colony.” With its local louts and lover boys creating mayhem in the neighborhood, the cramped houses and local babes, the first part had its own charm. Fukrey Returns on the other hand, falls flat in every aspect. The scenes are over the top. The dialogues are redundant.
The only saving grace in this movie was the fact that the boys had their own, endearing charm. This time around, the Bholi has a lot more screen time, Chadda slinks around in leopard prints and deep pink hoodies and Bholi has her own tricks up her sleeve. However, unlike the first time, Bholi has her own problems, distracting her from her main role in the movie.
Directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, Fukrey Returns is a disappointment in every way. What with all the negativity surrounding Indian cinema, this movie could have come as the perfect cure. But no. Even this movie also had to be a colossal disappointment.
On its first day, Fukrey Returns goes slow. The expected first day collections at the box office is around Rs. 3 to Rs. 4 crores.
