Recently, the Delhi – NCR government has issued a temporary ban on the sale of firecrackers in a bid to reduce the pollution levels. Everyone, including the gletterati have taken sides on the issue. However, this has created a negative impact on the people who have chosen to take a stand on the issue. Chetan Bhagat’s tweet against the ban earned him a lot of negative press.
People who have spoken for the ban have also been attacked. Recently, designer Masaba Gupta, the daughter of actress Neena Gupta and West Indies cricketer Viv Richards, was severely trolled when she tweeted in favour of the ban. People said the designer was an “illegitimate West Indian” and that her comments should not be taken seriously.
Masaba Gupta responded with a sharp comment, silencing all those who spoke against her. She wrote, “I am the illegitimate product of two of the MOST legitimate personalities you’ll find & I’ve made the best life, both personally & professionally…out of it which I am proud of.” “My legitimacy comes from the work I do & what my contribution to the society has been. And you can try but you will not be able to raise a single finger on either of the two,” she added. Finally she referred to herself as a proud Indo-Caribbean girl, “who doesn’t know how to shrink and crumble in shame of something you or your society cannot handle. It’s Just in my ‘illegitimate’ genes.”
Celebrities have been trolled time and again for their words and opinions. This is one of the few times that someone has responded in such a dignified and mature manner. This response right here shows that you can indeed stand out over all the internet ugliness.
