The Rajkummar Rao starrer Newton, which released today, has been chosen as India’s official entry nominee to the Oscars 2018, in the Foreign Language Film category.

Rao plays the lead role in the movie, which revolves around a government clerk who tries his best to conduct free and fair voting in a Naxal controlled town.
Directed by Amit Masurkar, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav, Anjali Patil, Danish Hussain and Sanjay Mishra. This movie Newton marks the second directorial venture by Masurkar, who made his debut in 2014 with the Indie film Sulemani Keeda.
The selection of the film Newton was a unanimous choice of the selection committee of the Film Federation of India, which is headed by the Telugu producer C. V. Reddy. The 2018 Academy Awards will be held on 4 March at the prestigious Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles, California.
