Bollywood Marriages Are Not Really Long Lasting

Published

on

Bollywood Marriages, bollywood divorces list, actress divorce list, bollywood divorces 2015, bollywood divorces 2016, mangobollywood, shocking divorces in bollywood, divorces in bollywood, bollywood actress divorce list, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Pooja Bhatt, Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Tabu, Tabu and Sajid, Hema Malini, mangobollywood, bollywood actress second marriages, bollywood actors second marriages,

Even three decades ago, people used to consider living together as a cardinal sin. Marrying an already married man was also considered okay but getting married to a divorcee was considered atrocious. Divorce was a damned word, which was taboo in every person’s dictionary. It has taken nearly three decades for people to mellow down and soften their stands on poor divorcees. People used to unfairly dub those who got married to divorcees as wives of husbands.

things have undergone a drastic change with the ushering in of the new millennium. Attitudes of people also have changed a lot. People have become more understanding. Today there are very few exceptions to the rule like Madhuri Dixit who condescended for an arranged marriage with an eligible bachelor doctor like Dr. Sriram Nene.

Marriage automatically brings along with it, a lot of responsibilities and pressures. It is more if you happen to be a celebrity actress. Like Karisma Kapoor or for that matter Raveena Tandon. Raveena Tandon hitched her bandwagon to a divorcee husband, like distributor Anil Thadani. Or for that matter an already once married husband. Karisma settled down with Sanjay Kapur, a businessman. That their marriage did not work is altogether another thing. Pooja Bhatt sacrificed her and plunged into matrimony with Munish who also was also a divorcee. Their marriage also has broken up.

This isn’t a new trend in Bollywood. There is no need to raise one’s eyebrows on this account. Because it has been happening from times immemorial, whether you like it or not. Sridevi succumbed to the temptation of getting married to a married man not once but twice. Not many are aware of the fact that Sridevi had, before she decided to settle down to domesticity with producer Boney Kapoor, got married to Mithun Chakraborty even when Mithun was happily married to Yogeeta Bali. It was only when Yogeeta delivered their third son that Sridevi chose to annul the marriage, which had been kept a top secret around years ago.

Sridevi’s arch rival Jaya Prada also chose to break a million hearts and got married stealthily to an already married guy- producer Srikant Nahata, that too at the peak of her career. Even Tabu fell for a widower like Sajid Nadiadwala, who had earlier married Divya Tabu was even engaged to Sajid but at the eleventh hour decided to go her separate way for reasons best known to both Tabu and Sajid.

It wasn’t Hema Malini who set the trend of actresses getting married to already she chose to marry Dharmendra three and a half decades ago. Long before Hema Malini was inspired to rebel, there were cases of other South Indian actresses who had chosen to revolt in society and boldly get married to already married men. Like Vyjayanthimala choosing to marry Raj Kapoor’s physician Dr. Bali who was already a married man then.

In the 1980s we had Smita Patil falling for a married man like Raj Babbar and defying her parents to get married to him. The talented South Indian actress Shobha created headlines when she chose to commit suicide years ago. Shobha too had married a married man- the cinematographer cum director Balu Mahendra who by the way made his presence felt only once in Hindi films with his film “.”

None of the actresses who chose to marry a divorcee or a married man did it without giving a thought to what they were setting out to do. By no stretch of the imagination could you call any of these actresses’ bimbettes plunged into matrimony with their eyes open, knowing what exactly they were doing.

Shabana Azmi, the arch rival of the sultry actress Smita Patil, was at the peak of her career when she fell in love with writer Javed Akhtar after a series of affairs that she had with various men like Shekhar Kapur, Benjamin Gilani, Kanwaljeet and Boney Kapoor etc. Javed was already married to Honey Irani at that point of time. Farhan Akhtar is the director son of Javed and Honey.

Supriya Pathak is yet another actress who did not hesitate to marry Pankaj Kapoor though she knew that he was a divorcee. Pankaj had earlier married Nilima Azim before he divorced her to marry Supriya. By the Shahid Kapur who made his debut with “Ishq Vishk” happens to be the son of Pankaj and Nilima

Actress Vaibhavi who is married to TV star Amit Behl who is a divorcee. Amit’s earlier marriage to TV actress Richa did not work out.

Besides, the fact remains that a knows the pitfalls in a marriage, the where he has got to work harder to ensure that he does not commit a mistake once again. After all going in for a is not exactly a very pleasant process in life. Isn’t it? Plus it is a proven fact that most of the celebrities end up getting married only after they are 30. And at that stage of their lives, they are on the lookout for a father figure who will smother them with love and affection, and not a young boy who will be prone to stray towards greener pastures when celebrities are past their prime.

Kunika, herself also a divorcee, is yet another actress who opted to marry a divorcee- Mr. Lall, the brother of producer Rajan Lall, who is settled in U.S.A. Unlike her earlier husband who was a male chauvinist pig, Mr. Lal is a caring husband who has given Kunika a lot of space and actually encouraged her as far as her career was concerned

It isn’t that only actresses settle down with divorcees. There are actors too who openly opt for divorcees as their wives. Take for Dino Morea. He is seeing Nandita Mahtani, who was the wife of Karisma Kapur’s former husband Sanjay Kapur.

Yet another actor who has had no qualms marrying a divorcee is Parmeet Sethi who married Archana Pooransingh. Archana had married Guri, a model three and a half decades ago. In Archana made her debut in tinsel town with “Jalwa” when she had applied for her divorce from Guri. It was a bad marriage for Archana, who is today happy with her loving husband Parmeet and her two sons.

How can you forget Anupam Kher who did not hesitate to get married to a divorcee when he fell headlong in love with Kiron Thakur who was married to Dilip Thakore? The marriage did not last though Kiron and Dilip were blessed with a son. Today Anupam treats Sikander as his own son. It is interesting to note that Anupam was a married man when he chose to come to Bollywood after completing his course at The National School of Drama way back in the 80s. Only after he obtained his divorce from his wife Madhumita, that he chose to marry Kiron.

To the credit of all those gorgeous actresses who ended up marrying divorcees, we should admit that they have made a success of their convention-defying marriages and proved to the world that it does not matter whether the man you get married to is an eligible bachelor or a divorcee and what matters is that both of you should love each other wholeheartedly and be brave to face the world together.

Mahesh Bhatt feels that it is we gave space to everyone else, whether they are your friends or your own. “I am happy for my daughter Pooja. It does not matter who she has married. I am the last person who will interfere in her personal life. If she is happy, I am happy. I have brought up my children in a very progressive and manner. To each, his or her own is my motto and dictum, whether you like it or not?”

What is it that prompts eligible girls to get married to divorcees? Says Vaibhavi,”You do not fall in love after plotting or calculating whether a person is married or not. Yes. You do not want to be a home breaker. I would have certainly not married Amit had he been married to Richa when I fell in love with him. We started seeing each other only when Amit was single. These days the word divorce does not have any stigma attached to it. Just because a guy is a divorcee, it does not mean that he is not a good husband material. Touchwood. I am happy being married to Amit.”

Says Hema Malini who, even today looks like she is the younger sister of her own daughter Esha Deol, as Amitabh Bachchan had succinctly put it recently at the cassette release party of “Baghban, Bachchan-Hema Malini starrer, “I married Dharamji because I loved him and I realized that he also was in love with me. The societal pressures did not scare me though I belonged to an Iyengar family. I followed the dictate of my heart and plunged headlong into marriage. Bus! It was as simple as that. There was no time to think whether I am marrying an eligible bachelor or a married man. At that stage of your life, what matters to you the most is the security in the arms of the man you love and want to spend the rest of your life.”

According to a leading psychologist, celebrities prefer getting married to divorcees or for that matter mature men, because they feel only they will be macho enough to handle the ordeals of being married to a celebrity. A bachelor boy may break up if the media starts calling him Mr. Raveena or for that matter Mr. Karisma just because he is married to a Karisma or for that matter a Raveena. In the case of a celebrity, he will have his own clout to be relegated to the sidelines as the Mr. of his celebrity wife. Like Dr. Nene is never referred to as Mr. Madhuri or for that Saif Ali Khan is never ever addressed or referred to as Mr. Kareena.
