Bollywood Actress Sadhana No More

Veteran Bollywood actresss Sadhana Shivdasani passed away here on Friday morning in Mumbai after a long battle with cancer, a family friend said here.

She was 74 and a widow, and is survived by her foster daughter.

“Sadhana breathed her last at her home this morning,” a close friend and BJP city spokesperson Shaina N.C. told IANS.

She also denied that cancer led to the veteran actress’ demise

“Many speculative stories are floating around, but let me clarify it. Sadhanaji did not have cancer. She had high fever yesterday (Thursday), and was taken to Raheja Hospital in Mahim. And today (Friday) morning, unfortunately she expired,” she said at a press conference at Sadhana’s residence.

“Her body is in hospital and will be brought tomorrow (Saturday) morning to the residence and by 11 a.m. we will leave for the Santacruz crematorium. The only tribute Mumbaikasr can give to living legend in Sadhanaji is the message she spread which was only a dignified life and peaceful demise. May her soul rest in peace,” she added.

Sadhana’s family lawyer said she was unwell for quite some time and was admitted to Raheja Hospital.

“She was well till 7 a.m… she had her tea but later she started feeling restless and collapsed. We have notified all her relatives. They will reach Mumbai by tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Around noon we are planning the cremation,” said the lawyer.

Asha Parekh, Raza Murad, Waheeda Rahman, Ali Khan, Yash Johar, Helen, and many more noted celebrities tuned up at late actress’ residence.

“Sadhana was not just an actress but a trend setter too. Her journey has been glorious. She had a very good career and she was very popular. But unfortunately she suffered measles, which had affected her eye-sight. Due to this she stopped getting work,” said Murad.

Actress Zarina Wahab said that Sadhana’s demise is a great loss for entire industry. “We were neighbours and she was really beautiful. She was really a good person and actress. Her expiry is a loss for entire industry. Her place cannot be replaced by anyone and I am feeling sad about her passing away,” she said.

Bollywood Actress Sadhana Dead

A top-rung Bollywood star in the 1960s and 1970s, Sadhana was born in Karachi, now in Pakistan. However, after partition, when she was barely seven, her family migrated to India and settled in Bombay (now Mumbai).

She entered films as a child artiste in 1955 with a minor appearance in Raj Kapoor’s film, “Shree 420“.

Later, in 1958, she acted in India’s first Sindhi language film “Abaana” in a significant role, on a token payment of Re.1.

When a promotional picture of the movie appeared on the cover of a film magazine, it was noticed by a prominent producer, Sashadhar Mukherjee, and she joined his acting school.

Sadhana’s co-student then was her future co-star Joy Mukherjee. The duo starred in “Love in Shimla“, a musical superhit of 1960 produced by Sashadhar Mukherjee for Filmalaya Productions and directed by his son R.K. Nayyar, whom she married later.

She never looked back since and followed with highly-acclaimed and awarded film “Parakh” the following year and another musical superhit “Hum Dono” with the legendary Dev Anand.

Sadhana is credited with introducing the famous ‘fringe’ haircut – known as her trademark ‘Sadhana Cut’ – and tight body-hugging churidar-kurtas as a much-copied fashion in Bollywood.

Paired with the top heroes of that era, Sadhana continued her trailblazing career with notable films like “Ek Musafir, Ek Hasina“, “Asli Naqli“, “Mere Mehboob” – her first colour movie, “Woh Kaun Thi”, “Rajkumar”, “Waqt”, “Aarzoo”, “Mera Saaya”, “Gaban”, “Ek Phool, Do Mali” and many others till her voluntary retirement from Bollywood in 1994.

In one of her last major public appearances, Sadhana along with her relative and actor Randhir Kapoor walked the ramp at a fashion show in May 2014 to support the cause of cancer and AIDS patients.

As Bollywood was coming to grips with the tragic loss of two of its finest actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor, tragedy struck once again as news broke out about the death of Sushanth Singh Rajput.  The news left everyone shell shocked as news reports about police finding his body at his Bandra residence in Mumbai.  Sushanth Singh Rajput committed suicide according to the police and further reports are awaited following the post mortem autopsy.

Sushanth Singh Rajput was a brilliant method actor who performed in some memorable movies like Kai Po Che!, Shuddh Desi Romance, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story and his last film Chhichhore.  Sushanth was working on his next project Dil Behcare, which is a remake of the Hollywood movie and the best selling novel, The Fault In Our Stars.  As news about Sushanths demise came out, shocked celebrities reacted with disbelief and offered their condolences.

Sushanth Singh Rajput is believed to have taken the extreme step due his battle with depression.  Incidentally,  in the last movie he was seen in Chhichhore, he gives the message that suicide is not an option for anything and that there is so much in life to look forward.

Rishi Kapoor left a proud legacy and his son Ranbir Kapoor will continue to carry the torch through his films.   India and Bollywood will miss its charming heartthrob Rishi Kapoor, but there is no doubt his family, friends and fans will continue to remember him through his films.

Irrfan Khan- An Ode To The Gentleman Actor

Irrfan Khan is one of Bollywood’s finest actors whose career spanned almost three decades.  Irrfan Khan brought multiple accolades to India and Indian cinema throughout his career by acting in Indian, British and Hollywood movies. The Angrezi Medium actor, sadly passed away in Mumbai owing to a sudden colon infection.  Khan recently battled with a neuroendocrine tumour and has announced his success against beating the cancer.  

Irrfan Khan is known for his offbeat and slice of life movies which make the viewers deeply reflect on life and philosophy.  Having made his debut with the Academy Award nominated movie Salaam Bombay! (1988,) Irrfan rose to prominence with his wide variety of roles he essayed throughout his career.  However, Irrfan Khan’s talent gained recognition with his portrayal of Paan Singh Tomar (2011) in the biopic movie of the same name.  Khan won the National Film Award for the best actor for his performance in Paan Singh Tomar.

Some of Irrfan Khan’s best works came late into his career and they include movies like The Lunchbox (2013,) nominated for a BAFTA Award Haider (2014,) Gunday (2014,) Piku (2015) and Talvar (2015) and the critically acclaimed Hindi Medium (2017) which went on to become one of the biggest grossing movies of Bollywood before Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with cancer in 2018.

Irrfan Khan’s last movie was the recently released Angrezi Medium which hit the theaters earlier this year.  With the untimely and unfortunate demise of one of India’s finest actors, Irrfan Khan will leave a huge void in Indian cinema but there is no doubt that Irrfan Khan immortalized himself on the silver screens.  Indian Cinema will miss the maverick actor of modern Bollywood classics.

Nishabdham Trailer - Madhavan Starrer Promises An Intense Thriller

Nishabdham is an upcoming multilingual movie which stars Anushka Shetty and Madhavan in the lead roles. Directed by Hemant Madhukar, this film is jointly produced by T.G. Vishwa Prasad, Vivek Kuchibhotla and Kona Venkat. 

The trailer begins with an intense and ominous shot in the basement of a house in the U.S., showing a dead body and a terrified Sakshi (Anushka Shetty) turning towards the camera. The next shot shows a news anchor outside the house which is being referred to as a haunted house.  A visibly injured Sakshi is seen in a hospital bed trying to convince Maha (Anjali,) a cop that it was a ghost who committed the murder.  Maha believes it is Sakshi’s best friend Sonali (Shalini Pandey) who committed the crimes but it turns out she is already deceased and cremated.  The plot of the movie can be deduced from the rest of the trailer. Nishadham will be a movie where Sakshi and Maha race against time to connect the dots and uncover the killer.

Madhavan will be seen in an upcoming bilingual movie Rocketry: The Nambi Effect in which he will star alongside Simran Bagga.  The movie is based on the life of Nambi Narayan, a former scientist and aerospace engineer of the Indian Space Research Organisation who was accused of espionage.

Nishabdham stars Anushka as a mute artist and Madhavan as a musician in the lead roles while Hollywood’s Michael Madsen, Anjali, Subbaraju, Shalini Pandey and Srinivas Avasarala will appear in supporting roles.  Nishabdham is slated for a release worldwide, on April 2nd, 2020.

That is the reason why her whole team consists of women and why she also voices the need to cut down thousands of years of deep rooted patriarchy.

 

In another post Sonam Kapoor posted “For me, female empowerment is very important, especially because I’m from a side of the world where women have always been second class citizens (sic.)”

 

 

This post comes just a few days before the International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrate womanhood all across the world. 

Sonam Kapoor is well known for memorable supporting role performances in movies like Bhaag Milka Bhaag (2013,) Pad Man (2018,) and Veere Di Wedding (2018.)  Sonam is perhaps well known for her role as Neerja Bhanot in the biopic Neerja (2016.)  Sonam Kapoor was last seen in The Zoya Factor where she starred alongside Dulquer Salmaan.
